- I race my 1998 Honda cr250 against my 2001 Kawasaki kx250. My brother Charlie rides my cr250 for the first race and then we switch bikes for the second race. The outcome is pretty crazy!

Whether it be take off, shifting, or just the position of your body. It takes the rider to make that bite go fast. And no matter where you are, the rider is the one that won wake that bike win the race...

Put same sprocket size on both bikes. You need to even out the playing field before you say the CR is faster.

Adam Heppner They're making a race to see which one is faster, If you want to make them both perfectly equal bikes you might as well buy 2 kxs or 2 of the hondas... Whole point of having a race is to see which one is faster... Not to have 2 identical bikes in the same race... then its just down the which rider is best... And at that point it doesn't matter, Because every rider is a little different.

Advance the timing on the kx like the cr and watch what happens
The reeds and pipe make more difference. A couple teeth will kinda even out. More low end, less top, vice versa.

For a real "race" let the same person ride each bike one at a time and time them
That KX sounds very tired, I've got a 03 KX 250 that runs great and it sounds NOTHING like the KX in this video. And yes just 1 or 2 tooth difference will definitely change the outcome. I suggest redoing the top end and then race them on a Motocross course and see what the outcome is.
The idle is too high on this kx it could be an air leak
Ive owned both of these and the same years and the honda was quicker than the kwak. The KX was all bottom and mid but the honda was better right through the rev range. And night and day stronger in terms of build quality. That said, I liked them both
There must be something wrong with the kx. And you guys do know all 250's and 450's are usually 5 speed right. 5 speeds aren't stupid,.
n1k007 right, 99% of bikes are 5 speeds. I do prefer a 6 speed, but it doesn't make it faster.

Thats because they are track bikes. Nobody really goes 90 mph on a motocross track
he dose not know how to drive the kx i have a kx65 and it go's 90 and my dad has a kx250 and it go's 110

If the kx has a 51t and cr has a 49t rear sprocket then it’s not going to be a fair race both bikes need to be running same final drive
If that were true, it shoulda been the one pulling on low end. The reeds and pipe make way more difference than one size up sprocket. And it's lack of 6th gear, I had no idea kx's didn't have 6th. Why ANY bike built after like 95 wouldn't have 6 gears is beyond me. Including xr's and quads. Only thing that ever gave a warrior an edge over my 400 was an extra gear. But I usually smoked em anyway.
Why would you need 6 gears if your on a motocross track and manly only use 4th and down like they were made for?
My first ride on a dirt bike was a old Kawasaki 250 back in the 90s. I was a quad rider and never had a 2 stroke. The first time I hit that power band I was addicted lol. All these years later I still ride a 2 stroke quad ( Polaris 400 scrambler )

You babied the throttle on the kx at the start. You should’ve for sure been ahead of him when you guys started. That sprocket is smaller so it picks up speed faster but then in the long run the Honda would’ve started catching up. It should’ve been way closer
Smaller rear means more top speed bigger rear means faster acceleration

I've always heard the kx 500 is a lot easily to handle and less power. And the Cr is brutally fast and powerful but eh guess it's all opinions
Jacob Greeson it is opinions but the way the bikes are made to I'm a Honda guy and I'd prefer the kx over the cr just the way you sit on the bike feels more controlable
Cr 500 is aggressive the way it accelerates much less if you do any work. Both the cr and the kx 500s are good. I prefer the cr because I love how it just puts power down and will flip straight over if your not careful. Would make a decent bike with a stretched swing arm to do the 8th mile strip. Had a 400ex fixed up and have been clocked at 96mph in the 8th. So I have no doubt a 2stroke with 100ccs more would do every bit of 110mph maybe 115mph

My kx250 with a big bore kit & aftermarket stuff on it was a monster it was a scary bike to ride I loved it
There is no 2 stroke out there to beat the cr 250...
Change those sprockets on the kx back to stock and watch the outcome, both are only 5 speed bikes too.
Honda didn't change the engine in the CR250 from 96-02 and Kawasaki kept the KX250 evil from the beginning of production to the end I love both bike's but the Kawasaki KX250 is my favorite by far
You should find an 80s rm400 or 500, give the CR a run for its money

I think the kx is gonna win on the take off,but the cr will win in the long run!
I'm no KX fan...but those bikes from 98- early 2000's had tons of power! And a better engine than that CR. The CR is a mid to top end engine and geared higher. Put a 48 tooth rear on that KX and it'll win every time. With that said, they're too tall, too wide and feel top heavy. Ergonomics suck! They feel like they were built for an NBA player.

Where is Olivia's truck?
When I was growing up I had a 95 cr250 with a 48 rear sprocket, reeds and a fatty pipe that ate up kx's. Raced a 97 kx250 with reeds and a 49 sprocket killed it, beat a 01 kx250 with a big bore and reeds dont remember the pipe and a 50 sprocket and an 05 kx250 all stock besides a narly pipe. Never had any kx come close to beating my CR closest race was the 01 kx but still got it by half a bike. Held her wide open and banged the gears never used the clutch and never lost to anything but a 450 4 stroke.

Yous are all talking about the rear sprocket gearing, no one mentioned the front. 1 tooth on the front can make up like a 3 tooth difference in the rear or something like that😂

It seems as if the power valve on the kx is stuck open. it has no low end power. And it’s geared very low change the sprocket and fix the power valve and it will fn fly!!!!
That Kx 250 has a better engine than the honda easy. If you put the same parts on each bike I bet that kawi would be in front

Which is the best maintenance wise cheap parts and the strongest to brake. I want it to be a solid bike that is easy to maintain fairly cheap parts and a strong bike thank you in advance

Drag racing like that requires very little skill, and is only one small dimension of what a bike can do. Take those bikes in tight or technical terrain and that KX will leave that CR in the dust!

Something not right with the Kawasaki, my dad had a 2001 Kx 250 as well and it did 130kph , did 125kph no problem, I’m not saying one should be faster then the other but it should be way more close than that
