- Hugging Kauai's Na Pali Coast, the Kalalau Trail is one of the best hikes in North America, if not the world.
This iconic oceanside trek brings hikers on a wild path along exposed sea cliffs, through humid jungles, past towering waterfalls, and to a white sand beach that is unparalleled in beauty.
But don’t stop reading there… Hikers that want to attempt the 22-mile Kalalau Trail should know that it’s not for the faint of heart. Plus, there are quite a few logistics that go into planning this trek.
We spent 3 amazing days on the Kalalau Trail and in this video we’re taking you along! We explain our itinerary in detail (which you can copy!), show you what the campsites are like, share what to expect on the trail, and get honest about how scary is Crawler’s Ledge… really.
As with all our videos, we have a complete hiking guide on our website with all the details we couldn’t fit into the video.

We used AllTrails+ App to track our trek: www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinm...
We used the Garmin inReach Mini Satellite Communicator as a backup SOS device: snp.link/cdc41be9

Thank so you much for stopping by and watching our video. We love to help so let us know your questions in the comments below and we’ll get back to you.
Would you hike the Kalalau Trail? What questions do you have about the trek? We’ll do our best to answer any questions you have.
Back in the day, the 80s, the valley was full of naked hippies: they would come barreling down the trail with massive back packs bringing in supplies, startling you as they rushed past.. At the north end of the beach there was a water fall you would use as a shower, standing on a flat rock. Sad, the stream has been cut off on top.
Such an amazing video guys!!! Omg! We create our travel videos and it’s hard to find real stuff! Congrats to both of you! It’s now on my bucket list! We camped all through the big island with a 4x4 but that was glamping compared to your experience. Thanks for the rainy backpack tips. Also, it’s wonderful. You can get out by yourselves and leave your little baby with loving Caregiver whether it’s Family or a friend. It doesn’t matter but you do need time together to foster the things you love.
Great vid you 2! Lovely footage and I loved the honesty of it all. Cheers! 🍻
Thanks Nate! The hike was so much fun to film!
Truly love your channel. Keep doing the best work !!!
Aww that’s so sweet 🙏
Cool video and great perspective! What kind of sleeping bags were those and where did you get them? Thanks!
This reminded me so much of the Abel Tasman Coastal Track in New Zealand 🤩 Great memories… The advantage there was that once you reached the destination, you could take a boat back to the starting point. I always find it not so rewarding taking the same way out… That’s why I would probably not do the Kalalau track. But still liked the video and all the information you put in! Thanks for the great work 😊
That sounds amazing! Taking a boat out would be super nice! We loved our hikes in NZ and that one is now going on our list!
Abel Tasman - one of the most magical trails I've done. The only reason I as in NZ in the first place was because of these two characters.
My dad is childhood friends with your dad Mike, just had lunch With your parents, They told me about your blog and I'm checking it out.
Great video! Love the last take so much :-)
Haha, we had fun with that one!
Thanks for sharing the entire hike! I’ve only hiked about 2 miles in on the trail to a smaller waterfall but it had been raining so much it was not safe for several in our group. We had no no plans to do the entire hike anyway but I always wondered about it. Your video made it so ‘real’.
Aww thank you so much Donna. Glad you liked the video!
Just did it in Oct. I've watched a few videos after doing it and I always see how people handle Crawlers. Haha. I definitely built it up to be much worse in my head before. The first time was scary but the second time was so easy. On the way back I've had so much exposure to exposed cliffs that it didn't phase me.
Props to ya'll on doing the waterfall on the way out. I've done them separately and we instead did 11 miles in one day, rested a day, and then came back the third day full 11 miles. lol
Glad to hear you had such a good time! Crawlers ledge is definitely a mental thing that we built up in our heads too. It’s good to be safe, but not as bad as it sounds.
I want to do this trail.
It is amazing!
How did you filter water on the hike?
We used our Grayl water bottles to filter the water on the trail
How many Mile is it to that waterfall ¿
Which waterfall are you interested in? There are several on the trail
