    For anyone that reads this comment.
    Look up the 1920s and 1930s German housing market. It's very parallel to what's happening in Australia today. Not only with the common person being unable to afford a decent home, but productivity plummeted, wages stagnated and so forth.
    We often hear that what happened in Germany in the 1920s and 1930s was due to a certain group of people. There's a reason why a certain party got elected, and it wasn't because they hated a certain group of people.
    I fear Australia may go the way of Argentina or Germany.

      It's a combination of policy and interest rates encouraging speculation and population growth which is coming from large immigration numbers not domestic birth rates that creates demand. How tf does this Liz woman have Dr in front of her name? Of our own local making? Ummm people who arrive need somewhere to live. They put pressure on rental and purchase markets. Houses take time to build (a lot of time it would seem in Australia). Migrants can't be quickly licensed as electricians, plumbers etc so they generally can't do most of the work to build houses. Therefore is it hard to see why importing a lot of people in a short time is not a great idea???
    Housing (in Perth at least which is the city I know) the prices went through the roof after the borders were opened, not when closed.

    • @kornkernel2232
      @kornkernel2232 Місяць тому +1

      Yep, housing crisis is a pressing issue but that because not just lack enough housing considering the usable size of the land and the market value is overly bloated. We are stuck at endless cycle again with property investments that certainly not helping the problem, but making it harder. Our infrastructure is lacking especially transport as well.

    • @chuiboy377
      @chuiboy377 Місяць тому +2

      Except interest rates were low during the pandemic which allowed people to borrow beyond their means to buy a home propping up demand. Everything else equal, fewer migrants will lead to lower rents and house prices. It is not a distraction. Price is determined by supply AND demand, and migration plays a large role in the demand side.

    Politicians are total sham.
    They do not want to stop the migration, they always want to have more people and less housing available so the house prices are always on the rise.
    They want people to keep fighting when the resources are less so people’s attention is always diverted from serious matters.
    These politicians come into power when the land developers sponsor them, they in turn have to make policies that favor those developers.
    AND It is always in their favor when there is one or the other kind of housing related crisis.
    More people seeking for rental places, less availability, more people buying more and more houses creating a frenzy, driving the house prices up, leaving all the first home buyers chasing this.

      @@liamharkin9157 In that case, Australia really needs to build more cities in the empty parts to cope with its population growth and become as densely populated as America where I’m from. BTW, you mentioned Melbourne. That Australian city is similar to Chicago where I live in as it has a railway loop in the city with certain lines terminating on it by going around in a specific direction.

      @@anonymous3738true migrants keep filling up the cities instead of country areas. Theirs plenty of land where Australia could build new cities inland. If Australia government was smart they could tunnel new rivers to go inland make an inland sea lake Eyre. And build new cities around that also

    Fact Time: Immigration began in Australia with the iconic First Fleet in 1788 and has since been established as intrinsic to Australia's history and national identity.
