I've become somewhat of an addict for these particular machines. I have 3 haha. 1 has been recapped and rehabilitated to like new condition, one has been scalped and rack mounted for the tube preamps for studio use. The last one I am using as a stereo amp for my hi-fi system. Love these things!
Heya, just wondering if you've got a schematic for the amp mod? I've got 2 of these badboys collecting dust, so I need an excuse to gut them! Cheers, Dan
Do you usually record at that low of a volume? I like to adjust mine ahead of time so that it hits much closer to the red at the loudest parts of the song.
The VU meters are showing output level, not recorded level on the tape. I think this is where you are getting a little confused. It's not like modern equipment where the VU meter is corelated to level on the tape. These are corelated to output level, which varies depending one where you set the volume level.

Did you have to do much work on them to use them as preamps?
My Dad had one of these - he bought in in 1966 or thereabouts. Fantastic old-school tape deck
Crazy! It's 2021. The machine is 50+ years old!
Great video, I have just bought one of these, with the external speakers too, I am looking forward to checking it out. Thanks
Is it for sale if it's still available I would love to buy it
Can you use the sound on sound over and over to later a sound?
I’m not sure.

Like I say in the video this decks reproduce level is much louder than the input level. So I generally record at lower level on this deck .
