I'd add my vote to the "send them to Geth, at least for the duration of a crossover (they can always ask Beanbag to send them back elsewhere later on)" column, but judging from the amount of chaotic derailment featured in these past few episodes of Dungeonbreaker, and the usual amount of derailment the Oxventurers are capable of, I'd be afraid the combined unruliness would end up breaking Johnny.
(that said, that final Mist move of opening a clown school instead of getting the reward felt really Dob-ish - those two alone could probably derail an adventure in under thirty seconds)

This is a difficult party to DM for. You've really got your work cut out for you! DMing heroes is straightforward enough, but when DMing villains, you need to adjust the sorts of goals you provide them quests for to match their desires. The difficulty here is that you have a party of both, making it super difficult to provide quest goals that appeal to the whole party. I don't think I could DM such a group, personally.

Wondering if Sisko is really lost forever and wondering what kind of deus ex machina could bring him to the party's future location so that we could possibly quest to "heal" him. Or if that would even be worth doing. Oh, and please let me know the address of the mental health facility where Johnny was sent "for a rest" (richly deserved, I must say); I'd like to send him a "Get Well Soon" card, or maybe a bunch of happy balloons or something. Wheels, if you don’t like to play as Fizz, create a new one that excites you. I can’t help but notice how much your uncooperative behavior is hampering the adventure. Johnny seems to not have a good time. You can see that this sentiment is shared with a lot of commenters. It sucks because your character from Break Quest Club, Robert O’ Cop, is fantastic.
Since the next Dungeon Breaker will be set in a new place, this is the perfect time to pull a Charlie Harper on Fizz. Just say that he disappeared while being teleported or something. Introduce your new character on arrival. Time for a soft reboot.

  • @Narsae
    @Narsae 3 роки тому +14

I don't think it's fair to put all the the anguish on the party members, particularly, Fizz/Wheels. I think it's partly the external strenous circumstances, i.e. the lockdown, that is getting to our dear Johnny.
I have never DMed myself, or even played (even though I am eager to try one day) but I do consider myself a writer and I have a bachelor's in behavioural science, for what that's worth (not that one needs to have any of these experiences to weigh in) and I have some thoughts.
Considering the varying moral alignments in the party the only way to have them unite and do something is either Payed Heroism - such as The Siege - or Forced Labour - like what they did for Yee'. The only party member who can be expected to lift a finger without something in return is Tim (Mist can't very well be expected to do aything but follow their whims, but they seem to like gold.) According to this it would be interesting to have Tim, his heart hardened from the callous abandonment of him, in some instance actually be the one forcing the others to be heroes.
Secondly do I believe that when the PCs are being royal bastards, in order to preserve the DM's mental faculties as well as dynamize the story, one needs to implement Practical Karma, meaning that when the party memebers are being dicks towards The World, The World is going to dick them back. The DM shouldn't roll with the punches, but punch back, within the story. The Dungeon Breakers, aptly named, are surrounded by good-hearted, honest people that they continually screw over, so let the people screw back. Make the NPCs into liars, cheaters and thieves. Maybe have Amelia return with a hidden agenda and make her less kind and dependable, especially towards Fizz. Speaking of Fizz, throw him in a dungeon, him and Morbos (and maybe Mist) and since Tim is the only decent person around he will of course try to save them, making them feel like they owe him and him, being the good goblin that he is, will refuse to cash in, maybe leading to some character growth on Fizz's and Morbos's part. In short: Make The Dungeons break the Dungeon Breakers.
There is, at this time, no thirdly; this isn't a fairy tale or perfectly constructed argumentation, but I understand that this is role playing game, not a pre-written story so these are just thoughts, not a manuscript - consider it inspiration - and I do appreciate all the hard work put into this show and I am thorougly entertained!

You have a point. Some dire consequences are needed. Jail time, abduction, or some illness perhaps. To split the party. This stuff happens because they feel like they can get away with almost anything they do. NPCs should step up and show that they don’t appreciate being the butt of antics all the time. At least they’d start to care about the story then.

i feel like when it's this mixed a party in terms of alignment, it's really hard to come up with quests that would genuinely interest all the characters, but you also have to cut your gm some slack. like, the story is not just about your character, so at some point you need to just cooperate a little more with the gm and the group. also, i feel like most of the time you don't even have to sacrifice your roleplaying to do it, because being the only one who really know why your character is acting a certain way is ok too - it doesn't have to change your whole character, though allowing your character to change is also all good. in johnny's place i'd feel like i need to change the story hooks, change the way the world views/deals with the characters, or just straight up ask my players what they want from me. idk, i feel like there's a real disconnect between the story the dm has set and the story the players want to be in. that's not really necessarily anyone's fault, just maybe a lack of communicating certain things more clearly. wheels (at some point) said something along the lines of "now i feel like i'm on an adventure", and that's when it sort of clicked for me that they expected different things. on the other hand, i see how it can feel like a bit of a personal attack to the gm when a player says that and why johnny lost his patience a bit. maybe part of it is down to the fact that wheels doesn't like d&d, but idk. i feel like the reason people in the comments are upset and uncomfortable with the last couple of sessions is because there's a disconnect between the players and the gm and the players among themselves. i really like the series, so hopefully they can sort out whatever is affecting the balance between them.

I know that they tried having a 5-man party but their 5th person just didn't work out both times (and maybe I'm underestimating the logistics of this here) but what if they brought on special guests characters for 2-3 episodes (e.g. someone from Outsidexbox/extra or other notable D&D shows/podcasts) as like one-off special characters. Perhaps it could even be a character that has some kind of split personality disorder or something. An alternative would be to just have characters that get mysteriously warped into the adventure.
I had a party member entrance like that once. I have a recurring character I play (when we're just trying to get a quick game rolling and I don't want to spend too much time coming up with a character) that just gets randomly teleported into scenarios Ricky & Morty-style (kicked out of a dimension/plane by a god or pissed-off locals or by his own accidental stupidity) and just kinda rolls with it like "Huh, I guess I'm here now."
To be clear, this isn't a critique of this show, I definitely like it. Who knows, maybe my idea is stupid. It would be nice to have another character to kinda balance out the Morboss/Fizz derailment hijinks.

Had a similiar suggestion at the beginning of this 9 hour arc. They shouldn't be sitting on the fifth man waiting for the last guy to possibly come back. They've got a few friends at Eurogamer who could fill in the position though I'm still of the opinion it should be a full rotation. Every 3 episodes are just part of a full session anyhow. Though swapping them out every session could be cool too.
Though half my focus is split since the Eurogamer staff claim to still want to play. Dungeonbreaker continued during lockdown but Break Quest Club didn't. Still new blood of anykind could revitalize this show. It's not that it's bad so much as Johnny having to fight tooth and nail to get them to do something is really getting sad.

    College of Mist
Bards of the College of Mist are trained in the art of Clowning. This tradition developed in Waterdeep after a group of brave adventurers and a heroic goose saved the city of a Gnoll attack by training them in the kind art of Clowning.
Practitioners of this School usually try to mend their Evil ways by bringing cries of joy to their enemies. Though some practitioners sadly refollow their evil ways, most achieve a Chaotic Good alignment after pestering their Dungeon Master Long enough.
Members are usually found in and around Waterdeep if they did not happen to be send on secret missions by their ancient secret allies Biffle and Alexander the Great Goat.
    Bonus Proficiencies:
When you join the College of Mist at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with Animal Handling, Intimidation and Performance. If you are already proficient in one or more of those skills, you can choose the appropriate Number yourself.
    Penny Wisdom:
Also, at 3rd level, you learn to use your Clownish appearance to your advantage, to get your way no matter what. If your attack hits a creature, you can spend one of your Bardic inspirations, rolling a Bardic inspiration die and adding the number rolled to your attack Damage as psychic Damage. The targeted creature must also succeed in an Intimidation check against you or become frightened.
    Mervo’s Marvelous Magic:
At 6th Level, you learn the Sleepiness Cantrip.
    Sleepiness: Enchantment Cantrip
    Casting Time: 1 action
    Range: 5 feet
Components: V ,S (A short performance for best effectiveness)
    Duration: 1 minute
This cantrip is a weaker Version of the Sleep spell. It targets One creature within 5 feet of you with a Performance that calms them down to sleep. If the targeted creature succeeds in a Wisdom saving throw it gets sleepy and has disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks, for the duration of the spell.
If it fails, the Saving throw it falls unconscious until the Spell ends.
Undead are immune to this cantrips effects.
    Jokers Skill
At 14th level, you master the Art of the Steed. You pull an ally of your choosing within 10 feet of you onto your shoulders and be his Mount. From this point on you can only use the move and Bonus action on your Turn in Combat. Your ally on his turn can neither use the move or bonus action but has access to 2 Attack actions.
In the mounted state you are considered double your hight and occupy the same space. Attacking enemies can choose if they target you or your ally. If your ally chooses to, he can use 1 action to end the mounting and can not be utilized in this way until you finish a short or long rest in which you need to apologize for at least 10 minutes.

Well my vote is for Icewind Dale. There in the Forgotten Realms already so sending them further north isn't a large jump and they may yet deal with Cisco and/or Big Gary again. It would also prevent any rubber banding if you intend to do this place later.
Ravenloft is a travelling sort of demi-plane so it could take them where they want to go, eventually. Only place besides hell where they could be properly punished for their transgressions. Though supposedly it's inescapable.
Rahvnica would certainly be interesting what with four unguilded strangers. And, with the exception of Tim, they would seem most unnatural there depending on how you work the narrative Johnny. A more accepting place for goblins and a chance for Tim to interact with others of his kind.
I'd also like to throw in a vote for Theros though that may be the subject of a later arc. I'm content to wait unless the social contract for this cast degenerates further.

It's the campaign setting that brought dragons to Dungeons & Dragons. It was one of the first settings to elevate "monsters" to actual races/species (if i recall correctly), and allow them to break traditional alignment roles (ie: the Lawful-Good Minotaur Kaz). Icewind Dale is pretty poor value for a complimentary extra-dimensional teleport seeing as how it's just a bit north of the Sword Coast. I'm very much pro-Geth crossover episode(s), but otherwise I think Ravenloft; the group needs a bit more harrowing before they get a (relatively) nice place like Ravnica.

I wish they could go to Geth. Morbos could learn from Prudence how to get in touch with feelings and expressing them. That he doesnt have to try to posture. Fizz can learn from Dob how to derail in a way that progresses the story and doesnt result in NPCs snapping their own necks. Merilwen would probably enjoy meeting Tim. Mist would probably listen to Egbert talk about Lavashe Mauve partly because a dragon born would seem novel and would think his religion is just a funny bedtime story.

  • @KotoElessar

Three choices, eh? Let us weigh the options:
Icewind Dale: None of them will ever be warm again, and it will be hilarious.
Ravenloft: Everything will try to kill them, and it will be hilarious.
Ravinica: Goblins and a massive steampunk city, and it will be hilarious.
Ravenloft sounds fun, but maybe wait for them to gain a few levels first; my suggestion drop them in Ravinica, specifically in a loft that is hosting a rave.
Also, will we ever see Amelia Montebank again?
We'll find out next time! On Dungeon Breaker!

Seriously guys, if you don't want to play anymore, just stop.
But the last two quests were just awfull. Everybody does his/her own shit, nobody wants to work as a team let alone progressing the story.

iv got a question and a statement first when are the dungeonbreakers due for a level up because they have been level 2 for awhile and there always vastly outmatched second im probably in the minority but i feel johnny is to harsh with them sure there rude don't do things very quickly and want payment to act but that essentially just makes them mercs which is not as evil as everybody keeps making out wanting pay to risk your life in the real world is reasonable so why not in d&d

    • @X3._.n3
      @X3._.n3 3 роки тому +1

But if ALL they care about is money it just decays into murderhoboing. Also, the fact that this show has a lot more continuity than the oxventures suggests something more story driven, but the characters don't feel developed beyond innocent child, lol random, cynical and guilty conscience which makes it difficult to create an interesting story. The best these episodes seem to get is the utter nonsense that happens whenever they fight
