When I built my Thomas I made my eccentrics fairly similarly but they weren’t brilliant with the same sitch you’ve had. I remade the straps and arms to bolt on the front and not had a problem with them since
That’s how the 5” is done, I think I still have the jig I used to make them. lol. I may think about remaking them one day, tbh I’d prefer if they were cast iron anyway, would last longer.
Enjoyed this video Tom. The lubricating pipes going from the front of the LH tank, Do the outlets 'drip' over the oil hole in the eccentrics? Have you got a similar arrangement on the 5" Jinty?
Hi, yes they do, although I’m not sure how well they line up, I tend to oil them directly anyway. On the 5” I didn’t bother as the pipes would be too small to be of much use, and also it would have be so hard to make sure they were anywhere near lined up.
Greetings from NZ. What do you know of the history of your Jinty? A late member of my former club in the UK (Lincoln) had partly built one before he passed away. It was sold and went "down south". Putting 2 and 2 together and possibly getting 5 it could be the same loco, especially seeing that eccentric strap.
Hi Tom, have you produced a video of how to time the Jinty? I have a Kingscale 5" Jinty which I had to change the crank, one side seems ok but the other seems miles out and even in neutral its exposing the ports the expansion link is slightly out but not that much
I’ve never seen a spring break like that before!

Glad you found that spindle 😂
Yeah, was close to making another… lol.

I did have a video where I had to adjust the timing on the 7 1/4, also setting the timing on the pompom, which had the same valve gear.
