IF YOU CANNOT FIND SETHC: Hissan Khalid has a solution.
"Just look at bottom of window, click drop-down arrow , then click "All-files""
IF YOUR USERNAME CANNOT BE FOUND:
Instead of putting user Jenny or your name just put Administrator then make up a password - worked for "Calvin"
Intro Music (Disfigure - Blank [NCS Release]): • Disfigure - Blank | Me...
Instructions:
- Disrupt boot cycle by turning off computer while booting into windows
- Launch windows startup repair
- Click cancel when it asks you to restore
- Click 'view problem details' tab when it says it cannot repair you're computer.
- Scroll to the bottom to find the link
- Click the link 'X:\windows\system32.....' - This should open a text file.
- Click file then open in the corner of the text file
- Locate then open the 'Local Disk'
- Change 'Files of type' drop down menu to 'All file types'
- Click on Windows, System 32
- Locate 'SETHC' (application) and rename it to 'SETHC0'
- Locate CMD, copy it and paste it at the bottom of the list.
- Change the name of the copied CMD to 'SETHC'
- Close all the windows
- Click finish and reboot your computer normally.
- Press shift (below CAPS LOCK) 5 times quickly. The command prompt window should appear.
- Type into the command prompt window: 'net user'
- Then type 'net user [YOU'RE USERNAME] *
- Type your new password (the characters will not appear)
- Repeat you're new password
- Login to that account using the new password.

Dude. THANK YOU. clear, concise and easy to follow. You have no idea how many videos I’ve watched- how many things I’ve searched- changed the thing is searching for - no one had the answer/ method. This one works and I’m forever grateful. I used this method for my home laptop - stupid put in a password. (We’re so sure we’ll remember, right !?!?) and forgot the next day. Innocent error for me.

Tried it but no luck. Restarting my pc give none of those options. Only safe mode or start windowns normally.

Yes but turn it off by keep pressing the shutdown button until it shuts then turn it on again , you need to do it more than one time ,however all the process is working with my computer and when I'm pressing the shift 5 times its showing something different. Not really working

I can't get this to work. To be fair, my "h" key doesn't work so I can't rename the file properly. Also, when I click finish, computer doesn't reboot, it shuts down. When I restart it, I am back at the screen that asks to launch repair. Any advice?

I can not view problem details because I never get this screen option. my repairs seem to have been solved by the disk repair process. Please advise!!!

Now it say to access the command prompt as well log on using an administrator account and it ask for user name and password again

interesting points ,if anyone else wants to discover forgotten password windows try Lomonting Windows Pass Mentor(just google it ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my partner got amazing results with it.

Mine didn't work... after typing net user. The names don't match.
Tried all this, got the command prompt, entered my username * and then got:

When I said Net user (name) * I had to type a new password which I did, And when i clicked enter it says Acces Denied

So for me it runs the repair and i cancel the first pop up window and it continues but the next window does not show as yours does with options. There's only one link that says click here for diagnostic and repair details. I click and it gives the details but no links. If i close that window my only option is to click finish so it'll restart or if i do nothing the timer will restart automatically. Can you help please?
It didn't fully work for me! I got everything to work correctly up until the very last step before typing the new password. I typed in "net user Jasons Mobile *" hit enter and a different message popped up. Can you help?

Please explain why I lose the ability to use the mouse to hit cancel after it asks me if I want to have the computer repair itself. Can go no further. Others have had the same problem with no answer.

I AM able to get through the "Startup Repair" process, but before it prompts the second "startup repair" with "show problem details", it brings me to a black screen that says "Recovery Manager" by Cyberlink. What should I do?

thanks for the help its taken a long time to finally sort my partners note book out at she forgot the password and did not want to wipe it and re install windows as there was stuff on it that she wanted so it was left in a draw until today.

I know i will never get an answer, or atleast not any time soon but ima ask anyway.. It allows me to change the admin password and the guest password but on the user that pops up on startup it says : The syntax for this command is [ password ] : [options] [ i dont remember]

Hi, i am stock. when i have cancel to restore, and now it just have keept on repairing for more that 30 minutes. It seems like it there is nothing happening, what then?
It is common for it to take 30mins or more. I have had it where it has taken about 12 hours, leave it running over night and get back to me. Hopefully I could help!

So i followed all of the steps, but for some reason that second link in the details isnt appearing. What do it do!?? All i see is the read our privacy statement.
In my infinite wisdom, as an attempt to keep my son off his computer 24/7, I recently changed the password but neglected to write the new one down. Now neither of us can log in.
I have followed the steps to get into the Startup Repair several times on my son's computer, and when I get to the screen with "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically", it looks different from what's pictured in your video. I do not get the additional pop-up in front of the original Startup Repair window with the drop-down/ability to scroll down to the link that opens the notepad text file. The only options I have on screen are "view diagnostic and repair details" (tried that... scrolled down - no link) and "view advanced options for system recovery". When I click the second choice, I'm taken to "System Recovery Options", where I need to be able to log on as a local user, which I obviously can't.
Any suggestions for an alternate way to get into System32/SETHC without the notepad text file pop-up? I'm truly pulling my hair out over this computer. We'd rather not have to purchase another computer at this time, at least until he is in middle school, as this one, old as it is, serves our needs so far.

When is it asking for a password? It should still prompt you for a password, but it should be a password you have set!

How do I get to repair after shut down? Once I turn it on the main screen is on again. Please have a better view of your laptop can't see what button you are pressing after you shut down the laptop.

I went through all the steps... and when I got to net user * it loaded three lines without stopping for input.. so whatever is in the password field was unchangeable.
there is not supposed to be anything in that password field.. there was never a password set up.. ever and I still have incorrect password nonsense.

I have the "attempting repairs" screen for at least 15-20 minutes. How long does that screen usually stay I'm still waiting.
Sorry for my slow reply, it can take over an hour depending on your hardware.

There are several components to resetting a password. One resource I discovered that succeeds in merging these is the Cunning code formula (google it if you're interested) definately the no.1 info i've heard of. look at this interesting website.
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else wants to uncover admin password recovery windows try Ichordo Windows Code Fixer(should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my mate got great results with it.

How long will it stay on the attempting repair screen typically? It's been about 7 minutes and it's still "attempting repairs"

@@robertreyes6456 found out a solution, on net user administrator should show up, do net user administrator * and should be able change password on that, then in CMD you put net user administrator /active:yes and hit enter then reboot your computer and the administrator should be on logon screen for you to be able to log into

There is no "Launch Start up Repair(recommended)" option in my laptop while I am doing this it only shows that "start windows normally "..... what to do now..??? Can you please help me out of this...???

I am a bit computer challenged, and I was also somewhat hesitant when Oliver was having me rename a file and copy and paste, but I went over his instructions a few times and then followed them carefully. The lap top was my wife’s, she no longer used it, and I wanted it as a backup at work. Everything worked out great..no need for a recovery/password disk..thanks so much.

I would recommend re-trying the steps. If this still doesn't work, try another method on youtube as there are many. Let me know if you still need help as I can direct you to other methods!
