Most of what M-P pontificates on about the relation between language and thought, has been the subject of intense objective study by the science of psychology, linguistics and neuroscience (see Steven Pinker's The Language instinct). When science was in its infancy, philosophy was the only thing in humanity's attempt to fill the void. Now philosophy should be picking up where science can go no further, but the professional philosophy establishment chooses to ignore this. It is apparently easier to get tenure with century-old musings off the top of someone's head, because those who will make the decision have also chosen to ignore science.

Steven Pinker is Mr.Conjecture himself! If you think scientists aren’t prone to baseless speculation then you know entirely too little to be science’s internet ambassador.

@@pectenmaximus231 Speculation is part of science. It can be confirmed or refuted, based on objective observations in real life. Philosophical word salads not based on reality can never be confirmed or refuted, and this is the reason the philosophy establishment keeps thriving.
