I started listening to Mason when I was in high school (a while ago...). He was someone who showed me the beauty of a song. How to write with clarity and honesty. He is a gem and I hope more people take time to really listen to what he is creating. He's a talented individual who wears his heart on the sleeve of his songs. Rock on Mason! you Rule!!!
He's great. I assume you're talking about the pitchiness. I think it's more stylistic than anything. It's the way he sings on his albums too. He scoops into the notes. He can certainly land right on the pitch when needed, so I think it's mostly just style, like I said. He has some really great songs. I'm impressed with his songwriting output over the years.
It's a bit of both - parts of what he's singing sound great and there's definitely that aspect of style @AbrahamRomney mentions, but there do seem to be moments where he's just off. I saw him last month, and he didn't miss this many notes. Not sure what was up here.
I used to be a total MJ groupie and have seen him live a few times and he was always as good or better live. Haven’t listened to him for quite some time and as soon as he started here I thought he sounded a little rusty. I’m assuming he hasn’t toured much and therefore isn’t playing these oldies as much. Hope that’s it and he’s not losing his voice.

Love listening to Mason, been a fan since 15 when my brother bought boneclouds
Mason is a true American Treasure. He played every instrument on his self titled 1997 album & recorded it on a 4 track!
The names of the songs are incorrect. Spring Flower is called Rain Drops on the Kitchen Floor. Deep Down in my Heart is called Crown.
I like him so much but he seems to be very very bad when singing live. Anyway. Nice songs :)
He sounds great here. Are we listening to the same show?

since hes been sober, hes more refined. Still the same soul...thinking in his age has found a better sound.
