Kelly, I remember you recommending this video to me a while back. It took me a few days to get around to it, but it's quite the impressive change from his normal harsh vocal grandmastery. (I'd hoped to catch this premier, but the recent hot weather has played havoc with my own sleep schedule)
Brave Bisscute. So I just took a listen to the original track/band (before listening to this cover) as I've never heard it or the band before and I love it! The drummer goes off, the guitars hit hard when they should, the singer is unique sounding in all the best ways. I can't wait to hear more. This song is def going into my collection. As for this cover, it's pretty cool. First time I've heard Will Ramos sing. I totally thought he was gong to scream right from the start too. And yes, you're right about the closed mouth thing. (it's a bit more than that) Some artist, many, in Grunge music used similar singing techniques. Eddie Vedder comes to mind. (you still have to react to Pearl Jam - Black 😉) Anyways, as much as it surprised me to hear Will not scream it doesn't surprise me that he can sing. He did really good but check out the OG if you haven't yet. The singer screams for like 1 sec in the OG, Will really went off on that. Oh and apparently the band is anonymous. Interesting. There's speculation as to who the singer (Vessel) might be, and I hope it remains as such for as long as possible. The collective is immensely talented, and I like that there's an almost esoteric mystique. It makes the music more open to interpretation and more cathartic. We all know who Will is, and I'm sure I am not the only one who would like to have a beer and a chat with him, but Sleep Token is almost like an otherworldly entity. They show up, play their set and leave.

yes it has something to do with not opening the mouth much, but there's more to it, lifting the tongue and bringing the lower jaw forward to manipulate resonances and give edge to the voice
His vocals are quite nasally (through the nose). I think it's because fry screams bounce off the soft pallet in the throat so he's used to that movement in his voice and its showing in his cleans
He's also immitating the sound of the original song, so that is completely done on purpose. I'd like to see him do more styles of cleans, though. I bet he can sing his ass off if he really let them vocals fly.
