Great review. I have one on lay away, I'll get it in the spring of 2020. I'm glad it's not cutting edge technology, but a basic dual sport. I bought an RPS Magician two years ago and have no complaints at all, except that the fuel tank holds 1.7 gallons, so while I'm joy riding or exploring it's a constant concern. I think Tao Tao makes good stuff, and there shouldn't be any trouble getting parts. Your review re affirmed my decision to buy one. Thanks
@@JamesArthurKayak It has more than 100 miles on it. It's still all stock and no complaints. I'll put on the 17 tooth sprocket after riding season is over, and I have a Mikuni carb I'll also install. These upgrades aren't all that necessary, I'm having fun with it as is.
I want one of these so bad. I have a 2005 Honda Shadow Custom Deluxe VLX, with about 12k miles on it. OH, it's a 600. I grew up riding enduro's, and where I live you are legal to ride on at age 14, and so I bought a brand new Honda 125 XL..I think it was...had so many lol. My dad spoiled me by buying me a used little suzuki 50 dirt bike from a guy at the shop where he worked. They guy needed money bad, so dad bought it for like a hundred bucks. Gave it to me on my 9th bday. Got my lil bro a honda 3 wheeler, back when they were still legal. WHO CARES about bells and whistles, the PRICE is what gets me on these. I'm impressed with the price. I can go anywhere I want basically, where as with my 600, it's a bit nerve wracking and wobbly on dirt roads lol. Not to mention, it REALLY REALLY Heavy for a 110 lb female. It goes over, I'm not picking it back up. One should never ride a bike they can't pick back up. I didn't ever plan on it going over tho lol. I just don't know about the assembly part. I've never assembled anything on a bike, just reg. maintenance and what not. I want one fully assembled. I was just searching for the nearest bike shop/dealer that carries these. The Hawk DLX 250 is another option and most place or many places seem to carry those. However the cost is a bit more. I want the Tao Tao. A "scooter shop" about an hour away in another state had them fully assembled and ready to go for about 1600. I'm ready to do a straight up trade at this point. Gas prices going up, vehicles costs waaay up. I drive a Dodge Ram 5 speed. I need this little bike for all the around town stuff I do. Traffic and a stick shift just eat that gas. Great review. Thanks. I'm getting one, of course a 2022 model now lol. The sooner the better, so I'm heading out to see what I can find locally'ish.
Great little bikes for sure and really think it would be a excellent choice for you. These bikes have proven to be very reliable and with a few simple, inexpensive mods, even better. Price, fun, and reliable...how can you go wrong?!
OH YA, I had honda 80xl back in 84, and had to break it in, of course I didn't. I rode the hell out of it up and down the ally by our house and around the blocks. That thing went 60 with 2, 14yr olds on it. That is the ONLY thing that surprises me about these. I would have thought a 250 would go at least 85mph. IDC, I still want one. I'm not going to the trails with it. We don't even have any, but I can put it in the back of the truck, hook up the camper and go have a weekend of fun somewhere else. I don't want to have to do all those mods. ugh..... Seat height, that's the other thing. I'm 5'5". but I still want. Guess I'm going to place where they are fully assembled lol. Next state over. Joplin Mo.
I can't wait to get mine now. I'm going flat slide "race" carb when I get it. I've wanted a other dual sport since I moved across the country 8 years ago, this will be perfect while I keep building my XJ600.
Decided to get one of these in a couple week's and do the carb the pipe and 17 front sprocket and 43 42 rear so its ready for spring. Then it can cruise at 60mph and tops out about 70 71 mph
Great video, I have the same bike ( 2019 version) and a few vids up on my channel. Worth mentioning to do a valve lash adjustment as well. The valves come pretty tight as does the chain, which you probably adjusted when you swapped the 15 for the 17 tooth sprocket. Its a great first motorcycle for any first timers that are handy with a wrench.
I just recently replaced the stock drive chain with a high quality unit, the stock chain starting to stretch. A iridium spark plug and a NGK plug cap are also new. I also greased swingarm and glad I did, no factory grease what so ever!
@@mitchculb780 Did you remove entire swingarm and grease the bearings or just the bolt? Curious what you torqued the swingarm bolt to... stories about these chinese bikes breaking off the SA bolt.
@@totalnoobfishing1753 Yes I removed entire swingarm to grease and as I suspected they were void of grease which probably contributes to failures with the swingarm bolt. I also greased front and rear tire axels as they were absent of grease and the rear shock bearings too
Mitch Culb Thanks so much for this review and these videos on the TBR7. I’ve been eyeballing it for a year now along with the CSC TT250, and it seems like a great deal for the $. Question: what ft lbs did you torque the rear axle bolts to?
If your good with tools and have worked on dirtbikes or motorcycles before, this is a really good deal at $1,300 - $1,400. Basic maintenance and upgrades. Parts are plentiful and upgrades are fairly cheap online. Good idea to already have some cheap priced upgrades on hand when putting new bike together. Otherwise, if your not really good with tools and have very little or no past experience working on bikes, this is not for you. Not at all. Simple logic if trying to decide a purchase.
