It created mystic and cliq killed it. Still all of the cliq is in h.o.f, never criticised and enjoys lot more power and authority to this day.

Yes your correct. Not only did he wanna continue wrestling he wanted to do a feud with either Bret or Shawn & build it up for a PPV where he would then PUT THEM OVER in the middle of the ring clean. He actually cared about the younger guys & wanted to do the right thing for them. He didn’t get himself in the main events, show up the night of the show & then change everything so he would win.
Different scenarios at different time periods. The 1991 Savage was still trying to make it work with Elizabeth and have children and only wrestle occasionally if that. The 1993-94 divorced Savage wanted to wrestle again. In 1991, Vince was desperate with two top babyfaces going out almost at the same time. In 1993-94, Savage had bombed out in his second run as WWF Champion and Vince didn't see anything in him as a full-timer anymore.

The fact is nobody drew like Hulk, and that's coming from a fan who never liked Hogan. Every time a title run from that era is labelled a failure, it's because it was expected to match the numbers Hogan did. Hulk did not mint legions of permanent new wrestling fans that his peers should have been able to keep, he spearheaded a boom period in which wrestling was the cool thing to watch. Trends never last forever, hence the cyclical nature of the business.
The video points out that even Hogan(in his 3rd title reign) couldn't compete with Hogan. The boom and bust cycle seems to have stopped though. I don't see wrestling doing mid 80s or late 90s numbers any time soon lol
@@Robert.Deeeee I believe that the UFC's explosion in popularity changed WWE's thinking. They panicked that their scripted combat wasn't as exciting and matches turned into spotfests. They should have leaned on telling a good story, which is where they have UFC beat because only a handful of MMA guys are great at hyping up events.
I doubt Hogan's steroid use was such a blow to his image. This was the very early 90's; no internet, widespread public ignorance about fitness, bodybuilding etc. We still have bodybuilders and athletes dodging these questions in 2020 and at least Hogan admitted to some use, which was arguably a very clever way to please both sides. It's true Hogan started growing a little bit stale after that point (which was not the argument of this video, I'll concede that pre-emptively) but he had been in the business since the late 70's, popular culture was changing and he was not getting any younger.

They really should have cut their losses with Slaughter and company after WMVII. Hogan and Warrior vs. Taker and Jake would have been a much better main event for SummerSlam.

Warrior was Hulk's successor but the problem was, he had no opponents at his level like Hogan did. Hogan owe his career to Andre, Randy and Piper. Hulk went to do movies in the mean time and Randy was semi retire so they say, so it's not his fault. If Sid came in earlier they could have feuded. Instead they saved all the good opponents, (Taker, Sid, Ric) for Hulk's return. The system was built for Hogan. That caught up with Vince when Hulk finally left and he had no other option but to push Bret and Shawn.
The Ultimate Warrior was a hell of a character but really wasn't a good wrestler by any means, he wasn't a Sting or a Rick Rude so hewas very lucky to be at the right place at the right time, so for him to get into that type of attitude of holding up the company for money was very shitty at that time. Don't get me wrong I grew up loving the Warrior but now as an a adult nahhhh.
Regardless of anyone’s personal feelings on the man, the fact is that at the time UW beat Hogan for the strap he was as popular if not more so than Hogan. Warrior was over as over gets. I’m not saying that the way UW went about trying to get what he wanted from Vince was right, but I don’t think he was wrong in saying he was as important to WM 7 as Hogan. I remember looking much more forward to the UW/Savage match than Hogan/Slaughter.

That is the only time I have ever heard about Randy Savage preferring the commentary booth! I have seen him (in a rare shoot interview) Talk about how he went to WCW because Vince wanted to put him out to pasture on the commentary booth. Yet savage thought he had a few years and another main event run in him. I’d love you to make a little video explaining how the situation seem to revers. Where it went from Savage being begged out of retirement.. to savage leaving.. because he doesn’t want to retire! Did Savage spend a couple of years thinking one way and then completely reversed his position? If so no wonder Vince McMann was perplexed at savage not wanting to stay in the commentary booth
as far as i've been able to gather, savage legit wanted some time off to try for a baby with elizabeth and mend their relationship. that never worked out, especially when that whole incident of her "running away" while in miami with the bolleas happened. she was already halfway out the door with that relationship so try as they both might, it wasnt going to work anyway. i think its when the divorce went down that savage wanted back in the ring to put over the new generation. lanny wrote that randy came up with a 2 year long feud he could have with shawn michaels that would culminate in him getting beat and permanently retiring to the announcer's table but pat patterson shot him down saying he was "too old" and vince took pat's side in that. hence why he jumped ship to wcw. and if those rumours about stephanie mcmahon have any truth to them, it could also be another reason why savage left and why vince tried scrubbing all mention of him post-retirement.
The other side of the story is that Vince stiffed Jim on pay he was supposed to receive, and now, Warrior was returning the favor by using his leverage over Vince to regain that money. I also noticed that this Warrior special episode was populated by people with known issues with him, who are also known liars like Cornette and Roberts. Just saying.
The WWF did Warrior no favors by how they booked him as champ. Rude was a great opponent but how many times did they wrestle? It had rounded the circuit before the Summerslam match and they were still touring after Summerslam. Then all the six man tags with the no longer Road Warriors (because there can be only one Warrior) then a quick feud with Savage before dropping the strap. He needed more opponents that were credible.
At Summerslam, when the Mountie ends up in jail with that guy asking him about the feel of leather against your body is hilarious. Mountie plays it perfectly.
I believe so. Vince was very agreeable in his letter, accepting the terms. Warrior put Vince in a corner though, so that on top of perhaps Warrior's attitude, Vince was done. It actually is a very similar situation to the screwjob in 97. Bret signs his deal, Vince needs to back out of the deal because he can't pay Bret, Bret agrees, then Bret becomes hard to work with for his last 30 days because of creative control, hence, not dropping the belt to Shawn.

Actually from the court documents online, It was said that one of the straws that broke the camels back in dealing with Warrior was that he brushed off/told a kid fan to %}*€ off when asked for an autograph backstage. The kid turned out to be the son of a major tv station manager who cut their deal with WWF over the incident. Vince then forced Warrior to make a videotaped apology over the incident which he did. Though it caused resentment with Warrior (who claims the incident never happened) and that was his last straw from that and the low pay he got at WM7 which then lead to his letter to Vince (which he also mentions the videotaped apology.)
I was never a big fan of either Hogan or Warrior. I felt the bigger guys like them only had a handful of moves and once you saw them wrestle once, you'd seen all they had to offer. Smaller guys like Savage, Bret, Perfect, and Piper were more intriguing as they seemed to have more to offer in the ring than the big guys. I wasn't watching full time until late '91/early '92 and I got into the characters of Taker, Savage, Bret, and Piper and the lead up to WrestleMania VIII was exciting. I was thirteen and still very much a mark. Vince handled the Warrior ransom situation the way he should have. I was overjoyed when both were gone from WWF TV in late '92 and into mid-93. The only time I was intrigued by what Hogan was doing was in '96 when he had just turned and formed the nWo in WCW with Hall and Nash. After having seen Hogan as a big babyface for years, I thought seeing him as a bad guy was really interesting. I have read that Hogan wanted to go heel in his late WWF run, especially after losing the title to Warrior in '90. I wonder how that would have played out and who he would have allied himself with.

Very stupid decision by Vince in my opinion, Warrior lost all of his momentum. Also his letter he wrote to Warrior was very personal, like it was a son who betrayed him.

It was an utter mistake letting Warrior pin Hogan clean. Should have come up with another angle, since, as we all saw, Warrior couldn't handle being on top. In the end, you stain what would have been an almost perfect resume (Hogan), and blow up the career of another (Warrior). Oh... and it also gave birth to that horrid WCW rematch, which I think we'd ALL like to erase that human history.

Warriors promos were too far out there. Everybody knew they were on steroids but nobody really cared. Warrior overplayed his hand and got too arrogant. Too much energy and not enough chill and cool to carry the torch.
The guy had zero interest in the wrestling business....made a shit ton of money...had no interest in backstage politics. The Warrior just didn't give a fuck. Its a little weird its called pro wrestling as i would prefer it would be called show wrestling. Tells you what it is. When i was a kid like between 4 and 8 years old i believed pro wrestling was the real deal. I know there is some skill in acrobatics and stuff but they do try not to hurt each other exactly the opposite from what i thought when i was young. LoL

Hitman vs Perfect was just awesome
Warrior was Hulk's successor but the problem was, he had no opponents at his level like Hogan did. Hogan owe his career to Andre, Randy and Piper. Hulk went to do movies in the mean time and Randy was semi retire so they say, so it's not his fault. If Sid came in earlier they could have feuded. Instead they saved all the good opponents, (Taker, Sid, Ric) for Hulk's return. The system was built for Hogan. That caught up with Vince when Hulk finally left and he had no other option but to push Bret and Shawn.
I've missed these. Behind the Match is possibly my favourite series and Sam does such a stunning job with narration.

The Ultimate Warrior was a hell of a character but really wasn't a good wrestler by any means, he wasn't a Sting or a Rick Rude so hewas very lucky to be at the right place at the right time, so for him to get into that type of attitude of holding up the company for money was very shitty at that time. Don't get me wrong I grew up loving the Warrior but now as an a adult nahhhh.

Regardless of anyone’s personal feelings on the man, the fact is that at the time UW beat Hogan for the strap he was as popular if not more so than Hogan. Warrior was over as over gets. I’m not saying that the way UW went about trying to get what he wanted from Vince was right, but I don’t think he was wrong in saying he was as important to WM 7 as Hogan. I remember looking much more forward to the UW/Savage match than Hogan/Slaughter.
I agree I was a young buck, Saturday morning maybe at 11 or noon wwf came on and the ultimate warrior was just as big as hogan and trending upwards.

Hogan was a snake and lime light stealer. He was the best and worst thing to happen to the WWE. The amount of times he tried to steal the limelight and robbed people of wins and titles. He stole a Royal Rumble win from Mr. Perfect, WW6 you would have think Hogan won because he stayed in the ring at the end longer than any loser. Warrior got robbed of the rematch with Hogan for a boring Sgt. Slaughter-Hogan storyline.

That is the only time I have ever heard about Randy Savage preferring the commentary booth! I have seen him (in a rare shoot interview) Talk about how he went to WCW because Vince wanted to put him out to pasture on the commentary booth. Yet savage thought he had a few years and another main event run in him. I’d love you to make a little video explaining how the situation seem to revers. Where it went from Savage being begged out of retirement.. to savage leaving.. because he doesn’t want to retire!

as far as i've been able to gather, savage legit wanted some time off to try for a baby with elizabeth and mend their relationship. that never worked out, especially when that whole incident of her "running away" while in miami with the bolleas happened. she was already halfway out the door with that relationship so try as they both might, it wasnt going to work anyway.
i think its when the divorce went down that savage wanted back in the ring to put over the new generation. lanny wrote that randy came up with a 2 year long feud he could have with shawn michaels that would culminate in him getting beat and permanently retiring to the announcer's table but pat patterson shot him down saying he was "too old" and vince took pat's side in that. hence why he jumped ship to wcw.
and if those rumours about stephanie mcmahon have any truth to them, it could also be another reason why savage left and why vince tried scrubbing all mention of him post-retirement.
Warrior knew his value. He had every right to go after more money. He had every right to renegotiate his contract.

The other side of the story is that Vince stiffed Jim on pay he was supposed to receive, and now, Warrior was returning the favor by using his leverage over Vince to regain that money. The WWF did Warrior no favors by how they booked him as champ. Rude was a great opponent but how many times did they wrestle? It had rounded the circuit before the Summerslam match and they were still touring after Summerslam. Then all the six man tags with the no longer Road Warriors (because there can be only one Warrior) then a quick feud with Savage before dropping the strap.
He needed more opponents that were credible.
On one of the Something To Wrestle With podcasts, Bruce Prichard let slip that when Warrior was champ, WWF was busy lining up new opponents for Hogan.
The Road Warriors became Legion of Doom so WWF could trademark the name, it had nothing to do with there already being another Warrior.
At Summerslam, when the Mountie ends up in jail with that guy asking him about the feel of leather against your body is hilarious. Mountie plays it perfectly.

I believe so. Vince was very agreeable in his letter, accepting the terms. Warrior put Vince in a corner though, so that on top of perhaps Warrior's attitude, Vince was done. It actually is a very similar situation to the screwjob in 97. Bret signs his deal, Vince needs to back out of the deal because he can't pay Bret, Bret agrees, then Bret becomes hard to work with for his last 30 days because of creative control, hence, not dropping the belt to Shawn.
Sounds like Vince has broken a lot of promises over the years.

Actually from the court documents online, It was said that one of the straws that broke the camels back in dealing with Warrior was that he brushed off/told a kid fan to %}*€ off when asked for an autograph backstage. The kid turned out to be the son of a major tv station manager who cut their deal with WWF over the incident. Vince then forced Warrior to make a videotaped apology over the incident which he did. Though it caused resentment with Warrior (who claims the incident never happened) and that was his last straw from that and the low pay he got at WM7 which then lead to his letter to Vince (which he also mentions the videotaped apology.)

WM6 was the first one I ever watched so it will always be my favourite WM.
I was never a big fan of either Hogan or Warrior. I felt the bigger guys like them only had a handful of moves and once you saw them wrestle once, you'd seen all they had to offer. Smaller guys like Savage, Bret, Perfect, and Piper were more intriguing as they seemed to have more to offer in the ring than the big guys. I wasn't watching full time until late '91/early '92 and I got into the characters of Taker, Savage, Bret, and Piper and the lead up to WrestleMania VIII was exciting. I was thirteen and still very much a mark. Vince handled the Warrior ransom situation the way he should have. I was overjoyed when both were gone from WWF TV in late '92 and into mid-93. The only time I was intrigued by what Hogan was doing was in '96 when he had just turned and formed the nWo in WCW with Hall and Nash. After having seen Hogan as a big babyface for years, I thought seeing him as a bad guy was really interesting. I have read that Hogan wanted to go heel in his late WWF run, especially after losing the title to Warrior in '90. I wonder how that would have played out and who he would have allied himself with.

Very stupid decision by Vince in my opinion, Warrior lost all of his momentum. They say Warrior looked at Vince as a father figure, which may be true, but I think Vince looked at him as a son as well. He didn't actually holdup Vince right before Summerslam, it was over a month before, and Vince did agree to his Warrior's requests. I honestly think Vince agreed, but then it got to him, he felt he was being betrayed (for lack of a better way to put it). Vince's ego got the best of him. It doesn't make sense to agree to his requests then to suspend to him? Vince was going to lose money when ever he decided to suspend Warrior. Also his letter he wrote to Warrior was very personal, like it was a son who betrayed him.
Warrior was a special attraction, he wasn’t ever built to lead the company that’s why his reign as Champion faltered.

It was an utter mistake letting Warrior pin Hogan clean. Should have come up with another angle, since, as we all saw, Warrior couldn't handle being on top. In the end, you stain what would have been an almost perfect resume (Hogan), and blow up the career of another (Warrior).
Oh... and it also gave birth to that horrid WCW rematch, which I think we'd ALL like to erase that human history.

You know or maybe you do not but I feel very strongly that Vince McMahan was terribly guilty of placating with these peoples lives is a direct sin on humanity closely in comparison to Hitler I know it says slot but I feel strongly about this and I always will. Warriors promos were too far out there. Everybody knew they were on steroids but nobody really cared. Warrior overplayed his hand and got too arrogant. Vince screwed people in the past but I think this one was deserved. You don't hold a pay per view involving so many others counting on you hostage for more money. I liked Warrior but he was no Hogan. Too much energy and not enough chill and cool to carry the torch.
The guy had zero interest in the wrestling business....made a shit ton of money...had no interest in backstage politics. The Warrior just didn't give a fuck. This is why past wrestlers shit on the guy so bad and obviously the fans buy into it. He did what he wanted to do. He was a legit chiropractor, was educated, and even has an award named after him. He beat McMahon in court to have rights to his warrior name. I don't know of anyone who went against Vince. Have to respect the guy for what he did no matter how much one might hate him.

Its a little weird its called pro wrestling as i would prefer it would be called show wrestling. Tells you what it is. When i was a kid like between 4 and 8 years old i believed pro wrestling was the real deal. I know there is some skill in acrobatics and stuff but they do try not to hurt each other exactly the opposite from what i thought when i was young. LoL
