8 years later, this is still AMAZING ! I'm 30 yrs old, was playing around with RPG Maker XP when I was a kid, and want to start creating again on MV. This tutorial is giving me so much ideas. Thank you so much !
i had all this in my Ace game and when importing over to MV i had difficulties due to the plugins and scripts being so different, after watching that and seeing how easy it is to set up via common events...you saved me a lot of time and waiting for a plugin, just want to say thanks much appreciated :D
Truly Awesome! Just yesterday I'm trying to figure out how to make my gathering system in my project more rewarding, then comes along your video. Thank you very much for taking the time to put this together. Also cool I get to be your 1st subscriber!!
You definitely gave me a hankering to implement fishing. My main character is lazy, so what better system to showcase his habits (besides food, women, and booze...) I'll try to add in lures and poles somehow to allow hooking larger fish out of the generate fish event! Kind of like Breath of fire 2 when you could catch whales. Maybe hooking a really big fish can lead to combat... lots of possibilities in your tutorial. Well done.
Thank you so much for this. I have a question though...is there a way (using this system you set up) to put in different fishing rod properties where depending on which rod you have determins how much increase of the % of catching better fish? If so could you please help me with that. If not that's fine either way you have helped quite a bit. Thanks again.
oh man thank you so much for this tutorial. I have a fishing mini game in my story already, but much more prefer having levels in fishing too otherwise it's just meh!
Thank you for watching my tutorial! =D I do have an updated one which allows the player to fish anywhere, as long as they're facing a tile with the right terrain tag.
Yes! But in order to do this you'd have to draw it in, and I'm not exactly sure what the best way to do this would be. Just from what I've thought about now for a few minutes, you could change the player's image while they're fishing to show them holding a fishing rod, or even similar to how I did my Dungeon Door tutorial, show them casting it. But then we run into a problem with RPG Maker, you can't have character images extend below their origin, at least that I know of. So in the case that the player is above a fishing spot, you'd have to alter the fishing spot's image to display the player casting and holding a fishing rod. I hope this helps! =D
I did mine much different. I did the fishing level thing, but I made it that a certain fish pops up depending on your fishing level. The fishing level increases every battle turn. So you have to do a lot of battles to get the more rarer fish.

My player continues to cast out line. cant stop him. he wont catch anything. i followed every step twice. help
nevermind figured it out. named a variable or something “cast off” instead of turning cast off lol.
Is there a way to make the character hold an actual fishing rod and cast it into the water ?

Also I turn on a switch when it's near water. I turn it off when it is not near water
Ooo, that's really interesting! =D
