Still my favorite movie of 2023. As a transwoman , Nimonas story hit me really hard. I laughed hard, cryed tons. The message was so well done. I've seen it a bunch of times and im still a weepy mess by the end. Loved it so much. CGM absolutely kills it as Nimona.
It's an incredible movie. I unfortunately don't hear anyone talking about it outside of the internet. I wish more people new about it. One of the few rare absolute wins from Netflix.
As a trans man, I honestly get confused when people don’t realize that it is actually about trans people and what they have to go through, and a lot of the experiences and feelings of trans people, because to me since I’m obviously trans it is so clear what the underlying message is.

@@selfmademan165the last part of your comment is pretty much it. People who haven't had the same experiences aren't always going to immediately see the underlying messages in something like this. But personally I think that's what makes a lot of movies that have messages like this really good it doesn't immediately slap you in the face with the meaning so everyone from any type of background can still enjoy it from how they see it and what it personally means to them
@@UsagiMay Yeah i mean it is cool when people realize it slowly rather than right away, but as a trans person myself just being fricking excited that we got so support, I was literally shaking in my seat.
24:05 I've never managed to spot any red on Nimona-as-Goldenloin, but there is definitely a tell: Ballister never got to tell Goldenloin that the Director switched the swords, so there's no way he'd have known to ask her about that.
I've looked so many times, never found anything. Glad I'm not crazy haha. That's a good catch though! I did not notice that! I knew there had to be SOMETHING that gave a small hint.
@@EversBlockbusters I think the teeth on the shoulder pads are different. they have a bottom row I don't think his normal shoulder pads have those.
the fact that you started this video going "she's GOTTA become a knight by the end that's the only thing that makes sense" to "ohhh, THAT'S what's wrong with the institute" is a real life character arc
Really enjoyed going over the movie again with you. Your reactions completely reflected mine including the laughing and crying. One detail I like to talk about is that at the end, Nimona transformed into a Phoenix because she knew blocking the cannon shot would kill her, but will be reborn because she was a Phoenix.
Thanks a TON for coming over to watch it again! That helps me a ton 💜 I never considered or heard even about the Phoenix detail. That would've been nice to think of in the moment when I was BAWLING my eyes out haha

As far as recognisable voices go, it probably would have distracted you to spot that the Queen's VA is Shadow Weaver's

3:26 when I first watched this I thought, “Did they know what they were doing with their names?” And then I found out that there’s a character in the book named “Girthrod” and immediately thought they knew exactly what they were doing
i know i'm late, but as a trans boy who's still a kid, i cried so hard with the queer coding. 'i'm Nimona' 'can't you just be normal' 'you know what you are' made me sob because my dad isn't all that supportive so i'm still called my dead name. i also love the interpretations of suicidal thoughts, anxiety attacks, misdirected anger, self esteem problems, bullying and an attempt, which i have gone through all of them so it's so heartwarming to see it in a movie

It should be said, nearly all the damage in the big battle was done by those
"protecting" that kingdom. Even the little old lady would have not needed saving if the drones hadn't fired directly in her path. She takes a swipe at the video screen showing kids bragging about killing her. That is about it. We often damage ourselves when we act out of fear.
The thing that makes me cry the most is at the end when theyre firing on her in the “monster” roars you can hear cries and screams of pain in Nimona’s voice
16:20 when Nimona says "I wouldn't *die* die. I just sure wouldn't be living.", the window in the background has the trans flag colors. That's a really nice touch! Oh, and thanks for a great reaction!

Something I wonder about: how did things play out/develop during the thousand years after Gloreth 'defeated' the 'monster?' Did Gloreth herself deliberately found the Institute to keep people 'safe?' Or was she used as a figure head and rallying point by others?
And did the founders of the Institute deliberately inflate the legend of Gloreth for their own purposes? Or is it a case of history fading to legend, which fades to myth?
A mythology was created around her. She likely had little to do with it. It's very likely that the village built a wall made of sticks that eventually became the kingdom. It will likely hundreds of years after Gloreth died that she became the "creator" of the society
Fun fact Balisters comic last name was Balister Blackheart. But yeah Ambrosius’ last name still was Goldenloin

@@EversBlockbusters Yeah it's a graphic novel! It started as a webcomic, but it's not available online anymore due to the publishing and then the movie being in production.
So out of curiosity I looked it up. Apparently knights get to choose their last name/honorific. So Ambrosius chose to Goldenlion.... buuuut he wasn't so strong on spelling.
Did you happen to find out why the kingdom has such big guns on the walls. ARE there other monsters like "real" dragons that get shot down and stuff?

Never seen this before till now. the art style was taken from the Netflix film "Klaus." Which incidentally I highly suggest.
Was it tho? The simplicity of it maybe but the character designs are veeery different
Also like, Klaus is 2D animated, this is 3D. Huge difference
If you liked the midevil/futuristic aesthetic i highly recommended the 2018 reboot of She-Ra. It's also made by Nate Stephenson so it has similar deep emotional themes

My one and ONLY complaint about this movie is that Todd didn't fucking die, everything else was perfect, Ballister's relationship, the director being the kind of person unable to see thw world in a different way, and as usually happens, people only appreciating someone when they are gone, luckily Nimona didn't leave for long
A death would've made this movie hit SO much harder. But maybe that's my sad-boy attitude talking 🤣
@@EversBlockbusters I actually would have been furious had Nimona died. I wasn't going to accept the "Bury Your Gays" trope being continued in 2023, not in a movie with this message. That trope needs to be a relic of the past.
I agree with you, pineapple works on pizza if you have it with ham. Not what I would go with when I go for pizza but still.
I'm not into pineapple on pizza but only because I don't like pineapple unless it's covered in a metric ton of sugar. I don't judge others for having it though. Besides, I've done weirder food combinations, like walnuts on tacos.
I also like pineapple on pizza.

In my opinion, pineapple on pizza is an abomination. _But_ if it's _your_ kinda abomination, then I'm all for you getting to enjoy it. As long as it's not going into _my_ mouth, it's a-okay... And, I mean, if I'm hanging out with someone and they order a pizza with pineapple on for us, then they can have the pineapple off of my pizza, too. And if I order a vegetarian pizza for myself and forget to specify "no pineapple", then I'll just pick the pineapple off of the pizza. Basic problems have basic solutions. :/
