y’all tia is the best to buddy read with! we struggled with our thoughts on the friend but tia summed it up pretty well!! my fave read of may was dowry of blood by s.t. gibson & my least favorite was the friend by sigrid nunez 📖 happy june !!
I'm living for the fork. A sustainable queen! My favorite book in May was Eating the Cheshire Cat by Helen Ellis. It's a Southern gothic that focuses on how three girl's lives intertwine, and I really enjoyed it!
Glad things are going so well for you. How To End a Love Story sounds really good. Added it to my TBR. Belated Happy Birthday. My favorite book in May was Divine Rivals. I didn't have any that I didn't like
I appreciate you letting us know there's smut in a book. Just not a fan of reading about it. So glad you enjoyed P&P. I liked the miniseries that's older better than the movie.
100% I get that!! I’ll try to do more smut disclaimers, I think I tend to gloss over it / don’t really go into books thinking about it so I never remember but this one stood out to me as one that should probs have a disclaimer LOL 🩷🩷
I read Bright Young Women in April. I love how the author twisted the title in favor of the women affected. I couldn’t believe the judge would say that to the defendant. When I watched the movie I had a Pikachu face. My favorite book in May was Animal Farm, I buddy read it with my kid. My least favorite was Credence by Penelope Douglas. It has a love square that is weird af. I almost dnf-ed it, but I didn’t because it was for book club. It got better, but meh. It’s basically 🌽 and those books are not really my jam.
Yes yes yes !!!!! Ugh I agree w everything you said about BYW. omfg I watched newlynova’s like 2 hour long video of that book GAHAHA u are so strong for being able to finish it I hope book club was a blast!!
Happy belated birthday! I think it's fair that you like the Pride and Prejudice movie better, because of how I mentioned that books written back then were often meant to be read aloud to one's family or friends. So a movie is just an extension of that where the story is being told to you rather than reading it yourself in book form. Making an enjoyable movie version of Jane Austen books, or any other books written in that era is still honoring the source material, in my opinion. I think I related more to Curtis Chin's memoir because I'm also from the Midwest. Obviously, I don't know about what it's like to be a gay Republican from a Chinese-American family. But I do know what it's like to try to express beliefs you don't actually agree with for the sake of fitting in and having to unlearn all of that as you learn more about the world and why certain political parties are not good for you or good for the things you believe in. I related to that part of his story. And I'm not sure how the audiobook would play into the experience cause I had a physical copy so that's what I read. But I thought the physical writing was interesting enough to stay engaged with, despite being very into audiobooks in general.
Ahh thank you so much for sharing, this honestly made me think about the book in a different light :’) you’re right, it was really engaging learning about how the author grew over the years and how much his perspective changed as he grew up, I def related to that as well ♥️ when physical books grab our attention as audiobook listeners, that’s when u know the book HITS❗️ so true :-) ALSO thank u for the bday wishes 🩷🩷
@@tiachu It might also be because I grew up without the internet, like Curtis did. So I know exactly how this guy was easily swayed by his peers to endorse politics he realized later were wrong. He honestly didn't know any better and he was struggling to fit in. With the internet, we just have to hit a button on our phone and be connected to the realities of other people and be able to make the connections on how politics can make our lives better or worse. And if the people in our IRL lives make us feel like we don't fit in, we can find people online to help us feel connected and form community with instead. We don't have to try to parrot the beliefs of our parents or peers to find friends anymore.
