- The NEW M550i has been brought to a higher level by BMW for 2021. Under the hood is a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 that is producing 523HP & mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic. Power is transferred to the ground through BMW's Xdrive AWD system. On the outside you will find a revised front fascia, wheels, rear bumper and exhaust. On the inside you will find some nice updates, high end materials and lots of great technology. Is the 2021 BMW M550i a real M5 you want to buy?

The M550i is the ultimate sleeper! I previously owned the 2018 model and people would be so surprised when I would start it while in the parking lot. The cold start sounded brutal for a luxury sedan I guess. I own a X5M competition now but I still think about the M550 from time to time. Great review as always!

@@tharealwilliewipeout Blackwing is very cool, you have to buy it. Def no leasing that beast. It’s rear wheel drive hence why it’s prob not faster then the M550 0-60. Being able to get a manual is great.
I really like the car. It is much cheaper than the M5, but also has a lot of power (enough power in my eyes 😉) and has a more comfortable suspension.

The new 5 series is basically the same size as the older e32 7 series. The new 3 series is same size as the old e39 5 series.
@@gregs8685 that’s one of the reasons I’m looking at buying the new G80 M3. It’s larger than it’s predecessors, and has power to match it’s curb weight under 4000lbs. Excited to say the least.

Awesome video as usual! The M550i is an amazing sedan. The ventilated seats aren’t on this car but it is only a 500 dollar option to have them which idk why this car didn’t have it.
Yeah don't have it..a deal breaker if u buy over the used car..ventilated seats are a most in my book especially I live in the South..no tri zone climate control neither..deal breaker..u better off getting a 2year old M5 for this price..even less lol
@@johnblack4915 u can get a 2020 bmw m550i with 40k miles still with warranty for high 40's, u cant get a warranty m5 less than 70k lmfao

@@zarbon700 reliability is sort of irrelevant when buying new. If this car doesn’t have nice enough materials for you then basically every other car won’t either. Depreciation effects the majority of cars so that’s a moot point imo.

I had an E39 540i M-Sport w/ a 6spd. I think it may be time to get back in a 5 series! This thing is sharp!

I’m late on this one but, that’s a beautiful car and looks and sounds like a blast to drive but, can be a super comfortable car also. Always loved the 3 and 5 series BMWs

This car is a beast I had a 2017 550i x drive and I would deff call it a sleeper most people have no clue a 5 series comes with a v8 twin turbo . For the people complaining about the reliability the obviously never owned one . It was a 3 year lease I had absolutely no issues with it

@@RaitisRides of course! By the way...we now have the M550i and a "22 Kia Stinger GT2 in Ascot Green, I love our garage! Having driven a lot of cars (not as many as you) I can say that Stinger FEELS like a German car! Designed by an Audi guy and engendered by a former big wig at the BMW M Division, it makes sense. It's solidly built, fast, and all the rest that a German car brings...and looks fantastic! Anyway, thanks...and on throttle!

I finally got to see one of these in person and at first sight I thought it was a 7 series because how big it is . Very nice car but I wish bmw would bring the proportions back down to midsize .

The seats can be optioned to be heated and cooled but that pushes the more to 95 k but damn that cognac colored leather is to die for
That is exactly my point.
I like the videos better when your camera is positioned over your head while your driving. So we can see how smooth the steering wheel is
No heat extractors in hood, ventilated seats, Bombay armrest doors that you have to lift items over, lack of a panoramic moon roof and the info system looks like an add on - I prefer them built into the dash or like Ram is doing with their trucks. For my money the vehicle should be more aggressive and wider and better optioned - it basically looks like every other sedan in its class but lacking options but for $93K USD - not special enough for my taste. Joe, please keep the wonderful reviews coming!

Talk about a sweet spot. Option it for under 80k and it's a great choice. Only zonks are the options that should be standard, but heated seats, steering wheel and the driver nannies.

It's interesting that they decided to keep the standard size kidney grills, but I have to zonk the rear brake calipers. They're a bit small for a heavy sedan with over 500hp

Apparently it gets all the way up to 75 degrees during German summers. Could be why they don't think about ventilated seats as standard at that price point.
Great video Joe! To me at least, this is the best 5 Series. The M5 is just too expensive and too harsh (for me). This is the sweet spot!

Went from 2017 540i M Sport to 2020 M340i. Found the M340i not quite as fast as M550i, but it's SO much more fun to drive.

Just ordered my 2022:same color, mocha seats with ventilated, massaging seats and shadow line.
When you review sedans, and are showing cargo room, please fold the back seats down too, because it's an important element of a purchase for some of us. Loved this review and this car, wow!

Good looking sedan with high tech character and carries a punch; with a tune it will be faster than an M5 Comp. Ventilated seats are available with the upgraded leather package. Very nice detailed presentation and you are making me like Twinkies lol :))
