      Thanks for watching! Thats getting a little warm, but average for a summer day where I live ! It's the humidity that sucks but 95 is up there!
      Cheers Gregg.

    I'm going to hazard an educated guess. The 'squeal" we are hearing is from the slip/slide control system. The wheels are gripping their hardest up grade and the noise tapers off as the units pass the peak. Nice catch .. great camera angles.

      Well spotted Bill! Yes the NR's have a similar system to EMD's "super series" wheelslip control. Did you know they use a doppler radar pointed at the track to record the speed!! They can't use the wheels as the computer wants to drive the wheels a few percent faster then tack speed, so that makes the standard speedo unsuitable! It is usually a higher pitch than flange squeal and you can tell the NR;s are at their peak traction....they may be boring to look at and pretty quiet, but they are impressive at hauling heavy trains up hills! Thanks for watching and the comments.
      Cheers Gregg.

    Great short video.Other then you being at that station to railfan I never see anyone else . Is it not a frequently used station.

    • @FishplateFilms
      @FishplateFilms  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Jim! The station closed to passengers in 1995 , when the line was converted to standard gauge. Adelaide's suburban network is broad gauge and stops at the bottom of the Hills in Belair.

    Nice video. Too bad there was no rendezvous of another train in this one. I just wanted to say that the inside of the tunnel from part three of the tunnel vision series looks good. How do you minimize or eliminate the chances of derailments on your layout? Cheers, Joe.

    • @FishplateFilms
      @FishplateFilms  4 роки тому

      Thanks Joe! I was hoping but the loop is very short, so not many trains would be able to pass this one? The tunnel turned out better than I expected , Unless I run through a switch or string line a train ..I don't have derailments...good track work and I constantly check wheel sets for gauge when servicing cars and coupler height and trip pin length are checked from time to time. I can reach a fair way from each end and if I had to I could push a stuck car out.
      Cheers Gregg.

    Hope you’re doing alright during these tough times, I’m ok myself. As far as rail operations through the Adelaide Hills go, it’s a pity there’s no variety anymore (at least in daylight with interstate grain trains mostly running in the dark, even they’re winding down), just intermodal/steel with the same locos leading. I hardly ever go south these days as a result.
    Rhys

      All good here Rhys, thank you . There have been some good drought relief trains through the hills, but I think they have just about ended now? It's pretty boring everywhere these days if you ask me..unless you can get some SSR trains , everything else is NR's or the new versions ! Just fan noise in boxes these days...gender neutral prime movers and god help us if you get a horn that doesn't sound like it came of the wiggles big red fu%*ing car??? That's why I model the US !
      Thanks for watching.
      Gregg.

      SSR have only been through the hills once since March last year (diverted 1SK3, even that was boring), Qube haven’t been that way since Jan/Feb & PN ran 4 trains in May (albeit all in the dark when loaded). GWA/ORA have only used gwu’s on their south workings since May

    G'Day Gregg.
    Matey I must say I was half expecting that long desired east west meet at Lofty when she started to slow, but you got me you sod! :D lol
    I have to ask though, have you purchased the old Station buildings and moved in? Seems like your almost permanently there for Aus rail shoots. :)
    Seriously though, aren't they grand old buildings, and in such good condition. Reading one of your comments below about graffiti I'm surprised that these beautiful old railway buildings have not been tagged or vandalised in anyway (at least not that I can see in the video). Imagine if you could indeed purchase said buildings and convert it into a home, but the constant noise level might get a bit much. However I really do like the style of the old federation buildings found on railways throughout Australia (those that haven't been demolished yet).

      Yes , I was hoping too, but the loop is too short for most west bound trains. The station is heritage listed and owned by the government , but was leased out and converted to a BnB in 1999, thats how I found it , by going and staying there in 2016. I stayed there many times until the lease ran out in 2018 and the lessor was not interested in renewing it...he had done 20yrs so that was enough..LOL. I was offered the lease , like others , but it was too expensive , but I hope someone takes it up soon? Stirling is a great township and very proud of it's appearance and you won't find much graffiti anywhere ...which is why I like it so much and there are few places like it to rall fan down here! All the good standard gauge stuff is a long way from my place...this is 2400km away! I hope to be back around October.......
      Thanks for watching.
      Gregg.

    Great video, I wondered why it stopped? Here in Omaha I get to talk to some of the Union Pacific dispatchers, when they first start Positive Train Control many trains were just stopping because of software issues. Does the railroads down there use PTC? Great video it’s amazing how quickly the trains come to a stop on a mountaintop. How the layout doing? I am getting closer in coloring my. Cheers from muggy Nebraska. Terry

    • @FishplateFilms
      @FishplateFilms  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you Terry! It was when the bushfires were on and it was over 40 cel, so the tracks were on the verge of buckling , so maybe they were waiting for the ok from control? No PTC but there are similar systems being trialed around the country. This is all CTC so no dark territory and that helps of course! I just saw your video come up so will watch today , and I've been busy with the house but done a little on the layout .
      Have fun with the humidity..LOL
      Cheers Gregg.

    Hello, I'm an ex Adelaide boy now living in the USA. Great ti see somr pics from Mt Lofty.
    I recently viewed one of your videos about installing an AR1 for a reversing loop.
    I have an issue on my layout that I thought you might be able to help me with. Woud you mind if I emailed you a layout drawing to get your advice on?

    • @FishplateFilms

      LOL...there is a stick round the corner Richard, but they were past that??. This was when the fires were burning , and trains were going slow down the hill so maybe they had to wait for some reason? It was 40 deg so maybe track buckles were on the cards as well?
      Thanks again for watching :-)

    Wow barley any graffiti on those cars. In the US as I'm sure most people know, the rolling stock here are tagged a lot....

    • @FishplateFilms
      @FishplateFilms  4 роки тому

      It depends on the cars? Grain cars cop a lot but most container stock is in yards , so harder to get to. It is a shame that so much US equipment is tagged ..it is vandalism in my opinion.
      Gregg.
