Lunar automotive took over Lunar caravans in 2020 but have since not produced any new lunar caravans, is this the end of lunar caravans and what does this mean?
Should I buy a lunar caravan?

I bought a brand new Lunar Quasar just after being taken over by Lunar Automotive. I've always had a Lunar van and have been more than happy with build quality and the spec. I have have had 4 problems since buying it and ALL were 'my/our' fault. All were easy to repair/replace. I did all the work myself after buying the parts. Front wet/boot locker, side storage locker, roller blind and finally a sink tap cartridge. Insurance is no different to previous vans so no problem there. The only problem I do have is that it is badged as a Quasar but it is 8 foot wide and there is not a 8 foot wide Quasar. It appears to be a Taurus 560 in terms of layout, weights etc. Other than that I am more than pleased, particularly the extra room because of the width of the van. Only time will tell what the future holds but at the moment I am still very happy with it. Lets hope that someone continues the brand.
We picked up a 2017 Lunar Clubman SI last week and went out at the weekend, we absolutely love it. So well built, easy to tow. Prices havent gone down on them at all!
Ex-employee here from the design office. Thanks for your kind words. The business failed mostly due to warranty issues during a time of industry-wide problems due to Brexit uncertainty. Nicholas Marks was the single interested party and if his offer wasn’t accepted; the company would have been liquidated. Turns out that every business listed on Companies House that he was director of dissolved. Upon knowing this, most of the management left the business out of fear and lack of faith, leaving the workforce with no direction. Replacement management, from Marks, had to try to salvage the business with a very limited budget and lack of expertise. Matters were made even worse post-Brexit and during the pandemic, ultimately decimating the business. The company is now in liquidation.
Such a shame,amazing caravans.
Damned shame, where did all of the spares end up, is the factory still locked up with bits inside ??

Have had 3 Lunars and dispite what is so often put out online about them as a Brand I personally have had great experiences.
I Tip my Hat to all former employees who gave me 3 wonderful vans.
We had a Lunar for years and it’s a lovely van. No major issues. We had great times in. Sold it to a young family and they are still making wonderful memories. Shame they are having problems.
I have just bought a 2015 Lunar Clubman SI and I absolutely love it what a cracking caravan, It's a shame about the manufacturers going like that.👍

Had our 2015 clubman for 2 trips now. Stunning caravan,the lighting and huge bathroom are a game changer. We walked through loads of others then boom,we were sold. We have an es for family but will be getting an sr one day😊
Bought a lunar recently too. Did you fill up the new owner form from Lunar? I did but its not getting delivered and no way to contact lunar. Or I’ll just need the CRis completed? Thank you
Looks like the front locker door clashes with the front windows if you open both at the same time?
For me with any caravan, yes it’s cool having lights in handles but most importantly is build quality . Less visits to dealership for warranty work, Choice of layouts.
This is very true, there are a lot of good Lunars but also some with problems, but this is the same with all manufacturers, they all seem to build a friday afternoon caravan.
We've just purchased a Lunar Clubman si 2009. Taking out next weekend for her first test run. Only niggling things are the propane gas, we are changing for butane and our brand new kampa air awning won't fit as the Lunar is a higher van than our previous Avondale Argente
Propane would give you more scope for caravnning in the winter and early spring/late autumn as butane goes waxy when we hit winter temperatures or have a cold snap (which, in the UK you can never rule out in any spring or autumn!).
We have just bought a 2008 lunar delta sb, the only problems will be getting lunar made parts which is just the body/interior panels as the windows, heating,cooker, plumbing are all made by different suppliers that still exist

I had a 1999 lunar 2 berth which I had to sell when things got difficult, i know it's still going strong, dry as a bone. I'm going to be in the market for a caravan again soon, and I'll definitely be looking at lunars

We have a 2017 Lunar Stellar which is lovely small van. The only problem I have is I would like to upplate it maximise the user payload but unfortunately as they do not appear to be trading I cannot pay them £50 for a new weight plate. I thought some company might takeover handling of the stock of spare panels etc. Great video
Things like that is the only problem. I wonder if you could speak to the NCC about this and see if there is a way around having a new weight plate just made by a weight plate company? We have only ever done via the manufacturer. But I'm sure the NCC would be able to advise on a way around this.
I had a Avondale dart,2005 needed front middle window,I couldn't get one from anywhere.all the windows started to delaminat.yeah they can be fixed but was told take them out and send them off, 2 week wait,but you can't leave a caravan with no windows in this country for two weeks.sold it cheap in the end.!
anyone had a problem opening the under the bed storage box, there is no damage to locks and the previous owner says they never attempted to open the box from the outside as they accessed via liftng the bed
If they are push buttons sometimes they can come apart inside. if you can get it open from inside you should be able to get the catches repaired.
we have lunar es as wife douse not like fixed bed and it fitted on our parking space at ,so no storage fees good to tow 3/4.bean no trouble everything still works fine 2019 model so must have bean one of the last produced , i have towed over most of the uk , before we bought the luner we always had statics but after 20 odd yrs fancied a change so far bean good experience of to yorkshire very soon
I have a dry 2006 lexon twin axle, and have no bother getting parts and all electronics fittings and electrical goods are all supplied to all caravan makes not exclusively to lunars !
Great video we got our Luna Clubman SI last March was never told they had gone under very disappointed with the suppliers because of the lock down never let us know they want more money to get a warranty 🤬don’t know what to do any ideas please
I dont know why dealers can't be upfront and honest. Its a tough one as you need to make sure the policy covers you and its not just a waste of money. I would have a look what the dealer can do and see if they will do it at cost?
Lunar have been unable to keep up with the bigger brands technology wise. Haven’t had the funding to develop the technology. Still using softwood frames and staples etc.
We've got a swift 560 conqueror 2018 and my daughter has a lunar sr in the in the same layout and reluctantly I would say it's better than ours and the external finish is far far superior
its a lovely looking caravan.
Why take the risk if no defence in price comparison with other vans
Look at Bailey Caravans alutec problems most makes have some problems Lunar Caravans are as good as any I would buy one that one looks smart 👍
Every manufacturer has issues and more now than ever due to a lack of quality control at the moment.
Thing is this year would have been the year to make money. Suspect that the bubble will rapidly burst after 21.
Time will tell, I think its a 50/50 of what people think will happen. Sales are still outstripping supply by a long way at the moment though, we just need a good summer, if we have a bad summer it may tip the balance lol.
I have a 2017 Lunar Clubman. Worst caravan I’ve ever owned. No end of trouble. Big crack in roof panel. Can’t get a new one. Have to get it repaired which is difficult as it’s plastic .
There is a company I have seen on facebook who do caravan repairs and plastic panel fixes, If I can find the conpany I will let you know.

Good morning. I would buy a lunar caravan any day of the week I hope they start producing again. They are a great caravan it would be a shame to see them fall off the radar but like you said nothing has been produced for a while. Thanks for sharing and highlighting this caravan brand. Cheers Paul

I have bought a Lunar Quasar 586 6 berth caravan in 2019 at full price, but wasnt told that at the time Lunar was in trouble and now have found out that from day one the 5 year Warranty on the caravan does not exist anymore, so at extra cost to me i have to spend more money to get a warranty from a 3 party company every year, dont get me wrong i love my Lunar caravan but i feel i should have been told before i purchased it.
A difficult one as the sales staff may not have known what was going on. 😕 Impossible to know the full facts as many rumors were going about and until they actually went bust I dont think many knew it was definite.
@@thecaravanplace I understand that the staff may of not known as there was rumours about, but the problem was I had to register my ownership of the caravan at Lunar, after speaking to them i was told that they were being taken over by Lunar Automotive and lunar Automotive and all warranties on new and existing caravans was cancelled, and i was told to speak to the company i bought it from about getting a 3rd party warranty through them, after speaking to sales person where i bought my new caravan from, it was suggested that i go online to find some caravan warranty as there’s nothing they can do,.
Basically i was sold a new caravan with no warranty at full price and had to shell out more money to get warranty so i lost out there.

We got a Luna clubman Si full price last March only to find out no warranty from Swindon Caravan they want us to buy a warranty though them I think they should give it to us as a good gesture but no chance

Insurance cost ?
The insurance cost should be the same as other makes, I dont believe they charge a premium above other makes.
Hello, thanks for the video. The $64.000 question is: would you take a Lunar in px or would you buy one to re-sell at your dealership? If the answer is yes then that speaks volumes. If you are purchasing a Lunar and plan to keep it for a few years then the secondhand value is not an issue either.

Good question, the one in the video had recently been bought in and sold within a few weeks. So we are still buying Lunars and they are still selling with no issues.
The second hand value may not be an issue now but what about in 2,3 or 4 years time?
That is true but remember this: do not waste today by worrying abut tomorrow!

To be fair sounds like a caravan lol. They all have faults. Not 1 manufacturer that makes a perfect caravan which is the sad truth.
We have a great caravan its as conurable as well as the rest sorry to hear that the are stopped producing at the moment 😢
My last Lunar caravan was a quality disaster, wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole
They’ve always in the main looked so dated and old so won’t be missed really especially as so many people had trouble with them, particularly leaking like a sieve.
