I know this is a year ago, and the homestead looks so different from where you are today. What a rough time you had with all the loss of animals and setbacks in your plan. Yet you overcame it all and today there’s a duck pond, lots of room to roam and plenty of critters. Great job my friend! 🏆
I'm so sorry you lost all those chick's. 😥 I'm wondering why your brother brings his dog & doesn't watch him? I don't blame the dog, but it seems that could have been avoided. I would have been sick like you are. It's a rewarding life, but many sad moments...You have a beautiful farm!
That's a real bummer man, at the very least this is a lesson learned for the future. I was also really into dollop :( Hope any future plans of yours work out 🙏
Wow, you've had a rough few days on the farm, I hope you can find the breeds you want quickly. I noticed on your last video the price of your eggs on your farm stand, $4 per dozen, over here in Australia I pay $9. Lets hope its smooth sailing on the farm from now onward. Thanks for sharing. Another great video👌👍
I’m so sorry about the loss of your chickens. My family also doesn’t understand why I still think about pets I only had for 2 weeks or even 2 hours (premature kitten births). I was really excited about seeing Buckeye & Dollop grow up too 💔
I hope your brother will help you try to find what you’re looking for and pay for it to. I hope your brother doesn’t bring his dog again. I’m sorry for your loss 😢
Oh my gosh. I knew Dollop and Buck Eye would pass away. Dollop in particular, I thought, would pass because she appeared to be unwell. But to lose so many! That sucks. I only knew Buck Eye wouldn't make it because he's not here in the future. But I never imagined that he'd be murdered by a dog. Especially seeing how much Echo loves his chicks. I thought Echo would prevent another dog from hurting them. But alas Echo can't be everywhere and isn't his cousins keeper.
hi Cody! recently the YT algorithm is recommending me some of your older videos and I came across this one. I feel bummed hearing how most of your chicks were lost from a dog attack, and giving you massive setbacks from your plans. These are also important lessons that surely had impacted by how you manage your little homestead nowadays, and we are thankful of how much it has grown for only a year
Oh no! I'm so sorry for your loss 😔 😢 I'm getting caught up on a months worth of videos and I just commented on another vid about dollop being a bantam. Tractor supply still has chicks that you had. Hope this helps.
When you said "my family included...", that is really painful to imagine a conversation where a loved one, a family member, has tried to make light of the situation and shrugged thier shoulder while saying go buy more, I pay for it. Or some version of this conversation.
Sorry for the losses but it's part of having a farm. I was always the one in charge of harvesting most the farm animals but the only ones I sent off to freezer camp were the rabbits. I sent them off to the rabbit lady and she took care of that part. Hope you have luck in finding a replacement rooster. 🐓
It is, and it'll be hard every time. Luckily we have a good local butcher to take care or that part, I don't have the time, skill, or desire for that part.
@@WhittAcresHomesteadand remember, it never gets easier, because if it does, that means something is wrong with you! You’d be losing empathy, becoming numb, something. It’s okay to feel, it’s good. You want to feel. Those who don’t, are worrisome. Hope this helps ❤
I wonder if the other animals miss the ones who go to freezer camp? Draco was a big guy so you'd think he'd bring a nice price? Gosh I can't imagine having a duck that size, When I can find a duck it's usually only like 4 pounds.
Oh man...I know this is an old video, but that's just awful that you lost so many chickens. I'd be so pissed at your brother for not keeping track of his dog. You can't allow an animal on a farm like that if they are so aggressive with your barn animals. Like, I get it.. sometimes dogs are just like that, but he just shouldn't bring him around if his dog is gonna be that way. Luckily Echo pup is a sweetie with your flock...
Your brother needs to watch his dog... why would he bring his dogs over put them in the same place as baby chickens n then leave them unattended when he knows his dog has tendencies to do stuff like that. 😢 poor dollop.
Oh my god what a tragedy. So traumatic for the living chicks too. Some humans don’t have any empathy. I’m sure you love your brother, but I don’t so I’ll say it, he should his watched his dog/not let it lose, that’s horrific. If his dog is that savage, it’s his fault. Dogs need to be trained, period. Usually when dogs and cats have issues, it’s the humans fault, because the dog doesn’t train itself. Depending on dogs temperament, they should be able to be still around cats, and if they can’t, need to be trained to be able to have a decent relationship. They just need to be trained. Especially if they have savage tendencies, like hunting and killing baby animals. And shame on anyone who says they’re “just” animals, chickens, pets etc. they’re not and you don’t have to excuse it by saying time. Yes your time too, but their life alone is reason enough to care. Period. So sad.

Hitch in her giddy-up.
I haven't heard that in many years. 😊
Though I feel it regularly now days. 😕
😢 it's always hard when you have loss in life.
Sorry for your losses!
😢
You mentioned even your family doesn't understand does that mean your brother doesn't think much about you losing the chickens? So sad so sad.

With a name like Draco he didn’t have a chance maybe you should call them buttercup Draco’s last day

U do all this farm by yourself? Wow
I get help when I need it
what is freezer camp?
Oh no, Draco! I'm in tears and he's long gone already.

Your brother owes you some birds.

Why is Draco going
He went bc he's a Jumbo pekin, he can't breed the girls to make babies and was hurting the smaller ducks when trying.
🫣”You can see a little hitch in her Getty Up!” Oh my!!! 🫨
