- Winona LaDuke (Anishinaabekwe) is an internationally acclaimed author, orator and activist. LaDuke is founder and Co-Director of Honor the Earth, a national advocacy group encouraging public support and funding for native environmental groups. This is a talk given at the conference, "Sustainable Wisdom: Integrating Indigenous Knowhow for Global Flourishing", which took place at the University of Notre Dame in 2016.

I was shocked when Obama lifted restrictions on fracking. I did some research on this and hydraulic fracturing needs to be banded. It is the major cause for cancer. It is banded in many countries for this reason. I found a direct correlation with the increase in fracking and then the increase in cancer rates. When there is a serge in methane gas in the water, it means that radium has been released into the water. We all know that radium cases cancer. The methane gas does not harm us but it is an indicator of what does.

Omg. My heart is so heavy and i been going through some hard awakening experiences and I’m lost and confused and I’ll admit scared at times, but I’m pushing through and I’m researching more and more. It’s so hard, a very hard journey, but I feel very connected to Native American culture. Thank you for sharing this video. I will keep forging through.
