I was thinking about steaming water today. I convinced myself it was a bad idea and that i had gone mad. Im going to give this a try and see how it pans out. 😂. Thanks.
i worked in Starbucks around 20 years ago and we always got told to do the steam wand jug crumpling thing haha. I've not thought about that for a while. Great vid thanks.
Another one I just picked up recently is using your steam want to clean a manky shower screen - if it's been too long between cleandown cycles, after a good soak in cafiza, hammer any hardened deposits with steam and they'll wipe right out.
I just fill a shot glass with white vinegar and then stick the tip of the steam wand in there and leave it for an hour. Dried on milk froth will wipe off with a paper towel just remember to purge it before use.
Sure you can do that, remember that vinegar is an acid, you will damage o-rings in your steam tip if you have them or if it sucks back up into your tap it will degrade all the seals. We would recommend water over vinegar to be safe. Cheers luke
Thank you for your tips! I don't in any way intend to be critical, but I have real concerns about the toothpick tip. I'm sure the odds are astronomical and the size of the toothpick almost undetectable, but if it should find its way into a customer's drink. You could have some serious consequences. I only offer this comment for your consideration.
Sure. The barista should realise if the toothpick comes out, it’s a very noticeable change. Then discard that milk so a customer does not consume it. 👍🏻
Not a trained barista here, just a pub cook. But my number one, before anything else, clean the steam wand the moment it comes out of the milk, with a clean cloth. Steam wand covered in dried froth or wrapped in a wet cloth drive me insane. It only takes seconds to do.
I do it all time when the milk is stuck into the steam wand. Simply heat the water, so the milk stuck in the steam wand is softened. An easy way to have hot water without having a hot water wand!
Sometimes I will put a carton of milk into the freezer just minutes before using it. So to make it colder. Another time, I put a pitcher into the freezer. I find the milk too cold which causes it more difficult to froth.
Sound like you’re water may be too high in your boiler which won’t allow a good amount of steam to build up. This is what you called wet steam as apposed to dry steam. See if you can reduce your boiler fill level and let us know how you go.
Why use a toothpick which can end up in a customers drink when you could change the steam wand tip to a 3 hole or a 2 hole. Cheap and easy, and pretty much all machines use the same threading. This is what happens when the barista is trained by previous baristas and not trained by someone who specialises in training people.
Yes if you can swap a time that’s the perfect solution, however, across the many home machines and commercial machines the steam tips to do use the same thread. The cool touch Wands are very different to others as they have male threads to hold the silicone inner tube in place to maintain the cool touch system.
Somehow. I'm so afraid of that piece of toothpick will come right off at our customer's drink, even if we know every little thing will expand while being inside the hole.
The scariest one is the toothpick one. Won't it shoot into the jug over time? Won't it roast the wood taste into the pipe? I guess getting it out is easy.
I just bought a Rocket Appartamento and im struggling to get it working. It makes the coffee way too fast, 18 grams in and 36 grams out in 3.4-3.8 seconds. I weigh my coffee and im putting in the right amount. I use expensive pre ground stuff called Nescafe Blend 43. It looks to be ground quite coarse but when I empty out the jar and check the granules they all look to be a very consistent size. A friend told me to use better coffee so i have tried this brand called Maccona, slightly better but I am having the same issues, less than 4.5 second brew times so i know the problem isn't the coffee i'm using.. I was told i need to tamp with more force but i'm pressing as hard as i can. I have began to use my foot to squash the tamp down really hard. This has gotten my brew times to 11 seconds but I have damaged the portafilter channels from standing on it and bending them, and my portafilter is all scratched from being pressed into the floor. Im thinking the problem might be the basket so i have ordered some VST units? Any help would be appreciated. Do they make any tamps designed to be operated by foot, ive almost rolled my ankle twice from slipping off the tamp handle, plus it makes a huge mess. Any help would be appreciated.
I've never heard of pre-ground coffee that is ground fine enough for espresso. It's almost always just ground for drip. Sorry, but using a nice espresso machine like the Appartamento and then not grinding properly is destined to fail. The grinder is more important to espresso-making than the espresso machine. Buy a good grinder and watch some intro videos on espresso making.
Good tips tho. Instead of soaking the whole wand which you reckon sucks chemical back into the machine, it does but it won't be a bad thing, 1 purge will take care of any left over chemical in the wand. Instead you can just soak the tip in chemical over night
This is dependent on the brand of the machine and if it has an anti vac valve in the steam arm. If it sucks up more chemical as the barista turns the machine off and the boiler cools then you will end up with backwash chemical in your boiler, this will then effect your steam taste and the hot tap will taste like cleaner. 🤢
As a Canadian, I was only excited about the milk bottle hack until I remembered that my milk comes in bags.
😂 we use bladders as we have an I-milk system. We had to visit our wholesale customers to get some bottles to shoot this. 👊🏻

Simple trick that clearly been around the traps a while then. Thanks
That's why I keep finding toothpicks in my coffee..
🤦🏼♂️ yes it can happen if they dine change them regularly. They will be clean as it’s always steam cleaned. 😂
@@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters how would you remove the picks?
love it when he giggled after saying double ender haha definitely took a few takes haha

Just tried this with my Gaggia Cardorna machine and it worked, I've just done my own video on this, and I've tagged you
So glad we could help

Yes the steam will break down the built up oils. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻

When cleaning out the drip bin on your Expresso machine I put a couple of shots of dish soap. It makes the next cleanup easier.
Sure, great tip. We use the bio degradable know tube bags. These fit in well and then customers collect them and use them in their gardens
Also, steamer helps to clean the bean hopper.
Sure! It will break down the oils in the hopper. Nice! 👍🏻
@@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters Could I have a bit of advice off someone please
I would avoid the toothpick trick! I do use the steam wand for crushing milk jugs and for reheating cold Drip coffee!

Or don't use the last tip... no toothpick for you.. 🤷
Thanks heaps for the tips, most of them are super useful for home baristas too.

Yep, that’s gross, it is becoming less common in good cafes, however still the norm in pubs and takeaway shops.
Love this, I've started doing this

I meant the one to collapse a used milk bottle, but yes I heat up water all the time with mine, it's super handy.

@@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters Indeed it creates another kind of problem. So it's best to follow the usual protocol.

Hahaha
How do you get that toothpick out?
Remove the steam tip and poke it out. 👍🏻
Another toothpick
How do you remove the toothpicks? 🙏🏼
You can poke it out with a pin.
Cool tips....but steam absolutely can burn you
Main thing, how do I take the little toothpick out😶
Poke it out. 🤭
Steam the milk jug or just be strong?
Much easier steamed.
Dang I get my milk in paper containers lol
Sounds better for the environment though.
You can disguise a sneaky vape hit with steam from the wand 😏
Bosses will never know xD

I successfully tried to boil an egg with water in a jug. Barista's breakfast check! ✔
😂 awesome! That’s a new one. We have heard the scrambled eggs in the milk jug and some use this every day as their standard.
