- For our live match today and something a bit different I booked on to a Barston Masters qualifying match….Could we qualify for the camera? If you are serious about your fishing and want to learn from one of the leading match fishing anglers then Match Focus will change your fishing!
Paul Holland talks you through his match as he aims to qualify for the Barston Masters final at the mecca which is Barston Lakes in Solihull, Birmingham.
Fishing a 5-hour match where the main species is big carp and bream, the aim was to win your 10 peg section to get into the final.

First video i've watched you in Paul and impressed, very thorough. I've only fished pellet waggler a couple of times and had average success on an easy water. I have a new pellet rod and with your knowledge and some better floats! am chomping at the bit to give it a go.
Glad you enjoyed it Dave! 😁😁 We have over 200+ videos on our matchfocus website and there is a lot about pellet waggler fishing!

Great video Paul learnt alot there especially the bomb set up great tip with the loop that the bomb catches will definitely try that
Also the waggler with the lightest line I use 6lb and will use bolser floats from now on do you prefer loaded waglers to unloaded!
Well done for qualifying fished a great match hope the chap to your left didn't moan to much.🤨
But thanks for your time going through your tactics very in-depth
Best watch for a while!
Stay safe👍

Hi Paul Really great video thanks for making it.Paul which landing net handle are you using on this video it looks really stiff and solid .Thanks Gary
Great video!Which landing net handles do you use?
Great Paul, really helpful and good info here. Bit of topic but just wondering what hooks you would use for F1 shallow fishing?
Glad you are enjoying it J reggz! 😁😁 For f1s it depends on the time of year but at the moment you won't go wrong with a 16 slwg either spade for straight hooking or eyed for hair rigging. We have a lot of video's available on our matchfocus website about f1s if you would like to take a look!

hi Paul , you are a lot better fisherman than i will ever be but i struggle to understand your pellet wag method , as soon as you catapult the pellets in you reel in pretty much straight away , then re cast , i thought the idea was , you re float goes down with pellets so can you explain your thinking please ?
I'm not Paul but I can explain this. Different match men have different methods. Some feed and then cast over the feed, some feed and reel in. Paul was catching on the drop pretty much straight away. That means there's no need to wait as his hook was already below the feeding fish. Most waggler fishing when carp are in the water are taken on the drop or the twitch within 1-3 seconds. Anything after that is wasted time in the water. Hope that makes sense.
That carp was way to big to put in a keep net 🧐
They are not in there for very long Andrew and we always take care with all the fish we catch
Great video. Enjoyed it. We subscribed, check out our videos too 👍🏻great venue fishes with team England there. For the tight lines winners day 👌🏻
