- Class Act is a 1992 American comedy film directed by Randall Miller and starring hip-hop duo Kid 'n Play. An urban retelling of Mark Twain's The Prince and the Pauper, the film was written by Cynthia Friedlob and John Semper from a story by Michael Swerdlick, Richard Brenne and Wayne Allan Rice. Filmed at Van Nuys High School in the San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles, it is the third of five films starring Kid 'n Play, following House Party (1990) and House Party 2 (1991), and preceding House Party 3 (1994) and House Party 5: Tonight's the Night (2013).

I'm glad you touched on how rap changed from having a good time to thugged out. I don't see why all the sub genres of rap couldn't coexist and thrive at the same time.

There's a much deeper reason behind this. The powers that be didn't want all that positive uplifting music being pumped into the black community and wanted to promote drugs, violence, and death. Don't get me wrong, we should be able to control ourselves as consumers but it's very much a subconscious battle that's gone on for decades now.

This may be 1 of my top 5 90's comedies....I think it jumps over all the House Party movies, simply because the level of reality.
I always thought class act was way better than house party.
We all wanted to know what Tommy did for a living.
The joke about Duncan calling blade the biggest a hole lingers because he's like "hey you're not deaf" still not getting the lingo but blade still thinking in ebonics is like "if you don't stop dissing me😠"😭😂

Class Act and House Party up to the third one are so fun to watch. I work for a event/concert venue. In the summer, we have summer concerts in the downtown park in my city. This summer, 90s house party was one of those concerts we had. The 90s house party line up was colormebad, kid n' play, montell jordan, rob base, and coolio (r.i.p.). It was so much fun and kid n' play was doing their thang and loved the entire line up and concert I'll never forget.

This brings back amazing memories for me, I really loved the 90s a lot of bad things happened in my life around 2003 and still struggling with disease and poverty but the 90s were different and things didn't effect me the same way I was happy with who I was and had a lot of hope but I'm ready to give up anyway this movie is great and reminds me of the endless summers back in the day. At least I got to live in that era born in 83 in contrast to the present its night and day I still want to change my name to blade brown

Also, it was sooo funny seeing Wedge in Waiting to Exhale. He had me weak in that salon gossiping about Angela Bassett's character, Bernadine. Sure, he played a walking stereotype in both films, but he played the shit out of them and made me laugh my ass off. :D

As an 8 year old white boy living in the suburbs of Central Jersey in 1992, Class Act really resonated with me 😂 Seriously though, I loved this movie and kid n play when I was a kid lol
I watched Class Act on Cable when I was 3 years old and it was was on HBO.
This is a classic movie. Kid n Play was ahead of their times. They produced quality material along with positive messages. Kudos! Another enjoyable commentary as well as reactions!
I wanted to dress like Blade when I was a kid, I thought the all Black with the lime green suit jacket was the flyest ish ever.
This is definitely an alternative House Party where Kid and Play didn't know or befriend each other, by having the same dynamic, that's done differently, mixed with the aesthetic of S1 Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and the comedy of Martin. I really enjoyed this movie, and your review was great

Can you do the last dragon 1985. I think it’s one of its kind. After the last dragon we didn’t get really any black martial arts musical movies. The last dragon had all the 80s aesthetic. Motown great soundtrack like debarge,Stevie wonder,Smokey Robison and even the temptations etc soul. It was just pure cheesy but 80s magic.

I watched this movie SO many times when I was a kid. i must have been like 7 or 8. I had no business watching this so young lol. but ALL the sexual jokes went over my head. I just found it hilarious. The bully character was so scary yet goofy and my favorite part was the wax museum. I remember watching the whole movie and then rewinding it just to watch the museum part like 10 times in a row. I probably ruined that VHS tape, lol. Did the same thing with the movie Surf Ninjas lol
