Listening to this brings me great joy. I had once listened to Vanessa Carlton explain her thoughts behind how she wrote this song. And I am convinced that her intentions do not match the results. It reminds me of when in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe where Lucy INTENDED to hide from the rest of her siblings and FOUND a whole new world. This song is similar. No matter her intention, she created something that carried with it themes of death, renewal, and spiritual resurrection into another world where sadness ripens into a beautiful field of flowers with the most beautiful aroma. If one falls into the sky, like St. Peter who was crucified upside-down, one is actually going UP into heaven NOT down into the grave. The world is upside-down and the only way to stand up is to fall down, the only way into the sky is through the grave. BRILLIANT song!!!!
