OMGosh I loved this!! I was born in 1964 and this was my childhood. Sheer Energy is pantyhose 😂. Pantyhose came in a plastic egg. McCall’s was a national magazine. I remember ALL of this!!! I actually remember those stockings!!! No one I know made one. This was fun for me remembering my childhood ❤❤❤
I was very much alive in 1975! I was fourteen. I’m still crocheting and still very active. Things were very different in the seventies. Women and men fought very hard for women’s rights so things you were giggling over are not that way anymore!
Love this nostalgic video! I was 14 in Dec '75. Yes we all wore L'eggs pantyhose! Sheer Energy was just one type, at 14 I wasn't looking for more energy but I think they were like a little thicker - think support hose, but not that extreme. I liked Sheer Elegance because they felt so silky! It seemed funny to me that it seemed so mysterious to you.😂 Congratulations on your Yarnie awards, totally knew you'd get ' up and coming ' and guessed you'd probably get 'best under 50k' you absolutely deserve both. Just think where you'll be next year!🎉🎉🎉Love you, stay sweet!
Ahah that’s so cute!! Thanks for sharing that with me! I understand now! The energy boost really threw me off 😂❤and thank you so much for you kind words. I love having you here and im very much looking forward to what this upcoming year holds. I can’t wait ❤😊 thank you again, I truly appreciate your kind words ❤
What a beautiful, creative and revealing 😉🤦♀️😂 trip to the past. I was born near the end of ‘78 so I can’t say I remember the 70’s at all 😂 I simply can’t wait to see the stocking(s) 😊 and just love hearing about you and your grandmother.
I have this exact magazine!! I love vintage crafting books and magazines from the US and the UK. I collect them and have hundreds of crafting and crochet books and magazines. I was born in 1972 and have such feelings of nostalgia. I recently crocheted a sweater out of one of my 1980 books, but have also crocheted many wearables from them. I believe these magazines and books are a great source of crochet and crafting information. Thanks for showcasing it❤
I am 59, yes I remember all that stuff. My female family members were all over these magazines, style, fashion all of it. Love Rice Crispy treats. Tasters Choice was new. I have found some old vintage magazines and crochet pattern books my mother had from her grandmother.
Omg! I was born in '83 and I remember similar ads for the music tapes, but for magazines and CD's. It was a great way to get a deal versus getting them in the store.😂
What a fabulous idea to crochet a blast from the past. Dying to see what your grandma made your Dad compared to yours. What a fabulous idea to crochet this. Really looking forward to this upcoming video. How fun ! ❤🌲🌲🎄🤶🧑🏻🎄❤️☃️☃️❄️⛄️
Oh what fun watching not only the magazine articles you shared but also your reactions. The 70’s sure were a different time. “We’ve come a long way baby.” (Also a cigarette add) Looking forward to your crochet stocking. ❤
That’s hilarious!! I really wished I could’ve shared more cigarette ads because they were HILARIOUS!!! But I’m so glad you enjoyed this. I can’t wish to make the stocking with you next week ❤
Another great video. Things in the 70's is so different from now. I love some of the vintage crafts. I still make some of them. Have a great weekend. See you Monday ❤😊
That brings back a lot of memories! I was a member of a record club then cd club! Hilarious! I actually have a 1979 McCall's Christmas Knit & Crochet! I love it!❤
Hi Dana! Thank you for another awesome video. I love looking at things from the past, especially with ads for cigs or Dr's telling women to get over it. Wild how far we've come.
Love your make up. Your lipstick made me reminisce of my high school years. We used to dress like the 70's and we're obsessed with that decade. So funny seeing that happen with the 90's.
It was a great time to be alive. I had just graduated from high school. Things were cheap compared to today but the salaries were much lower. Btw I was a grandma at 50. It was fun listening to your reactions to the ads and clothes. I have quite a few crochet patterns from the 70's but not magazines.
Great video! One of my favorite crochet channels on UA-cam is Justvintagecrochet. Seeing the 1800s/ early 1900s patterns on her channel makes me want to crochet some of them and shop for vintage fabric to sew. I purchased two vintage owl patterns on Etsy a week ago that looks to be from a magazine. I cannot wait to try them!
Ohhh I believe I was recommended that channel before! I need to check it out! That sounds incredible! Enjoy those vintage owls!! I bet they’ll be adorable!!❤😊
Love seeing you look through McCalls magazine. It was a great magazine in its day. When I was a little girl they published a paper doll in each issue - I loved those. Couldn’t wait to cut them out each month. For reference I’m 74 😜 so very nostalgic. ❤️ BTW Sheer Energy was an affordable panty hose brand - maybe still available today? Love your videos and congrats on Yarnie Awards!
Stop!! No wayyyy! Omg I would LOVE to have a paper doll magazine! How incredible, I’m going to look one up out of curiosity! Thanks for sharing that with me 😊❤ and thank you so much!!
I was born in 1964. My mom used to get so many magazines in the mail. It was common for children to sell magazine subscriptions to make money for schools. I have a bunch of knitting and crochet magazines from the 1980's. Lots of Vogue Knitting issues. Also my sister who's 13 years older than me (she taught me to crochet) gave me some older crochet magazines from the 1970's. I still have them. Cool video. I like to see your reactions to stuff that was so common for us oldsters.😅
Lord yes. I remember it all. McCall's magazine was a treat! I think we paid 49 or 59 cents (whereas today magazines are $16.99 approx. & Christmas editions are much higher). They were a wealth of information for the times in 1975. Bullet bras, omg. I wore Playtex 18 hr Cross Your Heart bras due to ample breasts. They were torture devices and so uncomfortable, but very supportive. And yes, I wore Sheer Energy pantyhose and swore by them. I love vintage magazines, clothes, toys, cars, music. So much style difference from today, to be sure. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. ❤
Dana! Omg so many memories fm ending these mags at Gradmas Wini’s house. Thank you for the amazing memories. Side note, Dana thank you for being so down to earth, kind and beautiful inside and out. Stay true to yourself! Hugs🤗
Oh that’s so sweet , what a good memory ❤ and awh thank you so much. That is so kind of you to say. I appreciate you so much , you’re so sweet. Hugs back to you my dear friend ❤😊
Love this! My great grandpa saved his favorite magazine from the day and year my mom was born so I have a random men’s magazine from 1975 and I adore it!
0:51 omg. I’m OLDER than that magazine! 😅 1:42 peep those nails! 😮 love! 4:54 HAAAHAAA! My parents did “8-tracks club” and I did the “cassette club” 6:46 we also had “double coupon day”! 11:36 I’m in Ohio; grew up in southeastern Ohio close to Parkersburg WVA); McCalls was THE grocery store mag for my Mom…she STILL uses Oil of Olay & looks like my sister, tbh. How fun! Thank you! ☺️🧡 xx
Oh my gosh that’s so cute your parents did the 8 track club & you the cassettes😂❤ sooo cute!! My grandmother lived in Garfield Heights if you’re familiar with that area! Thank YOU for sharing, I love hearing your guys commentary and stories about remembering these things it’s so amazing ❤😊
It IS amazing! You’ve managed to create and hostess such a beautiful community, Dana. Truly. I DO know Garfield Heights! That always felt “big city” and “exotic” to me as a kid “down by the river” 😂. So funny how perspective flexes and changes…I have to share also, the picture of your grandmother in her uniform looks SO MUCH like my RN grad picture! I did like a “wait what?!” pause and zoom moment! I’m not old enough to be your grandmother, but when I saw it, I thought, “omgsh! Did we go to school together?” 😆. I actually wore the cap, white dress, white stockings, white shoes uniform for several years in my early career; i transferred to the OR where we wore different clothes, then the policy changes over the years actually made it against the rules to wear caps and dresses were “discouraged” unless “religious” required -🙄. I still have my OG cap tho. Just nostalgic. Sorry fur RAMBLING. 😬🤐 🩷
Hearing a magazine from Christmas 1975 called vintage hits different when you are born in 1974. I am 50. When did I become Vintage? 😅😂😢😂 I also teach history and I do love old magazines and papers they are great educational tools. Also in 1975 the US was going into or was already in an economic crisis, inflation was sky rocketring and 7 cent was a lot. Watergate had just happened and Pres. Nixon had resigned August of 1974 and Pres. Ford had stepped in. It was a different time for sure.
😂😂😂 don’t worry I don’t consider 50 even the slightest vintage!! I think it’s awesome you teach history, it’s so fascinating! Thank you for sharing that with me! It’s always hard to wrap your head around 7¢ being a lot but I can imagine so.
Love it! I was born in 1975. 🎉 I sometimes forget I’m not old, I’m vintage. 😆 My grandmother crocheted and sewed and I remember her having the McCalls magazines. What a great keepsake! 💕
I was born in 78, but so much of this magazine looks familiar! And yes, smoking ads were everywhere! My high school even had a student smoking area when I was there!! I can't wait to see the crocheted stockings. How fun are those!?
I really wish I didn’t have to cut out all the smoking ads I shared because let me tel you.. they were funny. Dang UA-cam rules lol. But I’m glad you enjoyed this video❤
The foot stockings omg! 😂 I want to do Halloween versions- zombie, monster, and witch feet! I have a 1972 Mon Tricot stitch dictionary with both knitting and crochet stitches. It was a gift from my big brother (a baby at the time) to my grandmother, and my mom wrote an inscription in the front cover. I treasure it! 😊
Hi Dana!! I have several vintage magazines from my grandma. I was 11 years old in 1975 lol. What a fun video! Isn’t it amazing how much things have changed over the years?!?! How fun it would be to make those stockings!! ❤️
Oh that’s so lovely Connie! I’m so glad you still have them! That’s amazing ❤😊 and it truly is crazy how much has changed! It’s so fascinating for me to look back on it since I wasn’t able to live it! I can’t wait to make the stocking with you next week 😊❤
I was born in 1969 and remember buying candy that looked like cigarettes. Cigarettes were also sold in vending machines and parent's sent their children to the corner store to buy cigarettes. My high school also had a smoking section. Pop (yep, im from the midwest) was sold in glass bottles, no plastic. Sears is comparable to todays Amazon. Sears would mail out catalogs every few months and my first job was for Sears taking catalog orders over the phone. Fun times 😂
i have a whole stack (probably 30-40) vintage crochet/knit magazines from the 60s-80s. they were my great-great grandmother’s, who passed them down to my great grandma, who passed them down to me 🥹
Those coupons I found when going through my moms recipe folder!! The magic bars we made those!!! I was 6 in 1975! I remember the tobacco and alcohol adds! Some of the advertisements actually have subliminal messages! When I studied media in college it was amazing how they used sex and status for ads!!! Loved this Vlog!!!! 😂😂❤❤❤❤
Oh wow that’s amazing!! I bet the magic bars were welll…. Magic!! lol and yes I totally wish I could’ve shared more smoking ads with you guys because they were fascinating!! I’m so glad you enjoy this video ❤😊
@BlondieKnots i also found the magazine in an archive online and was able to see the patterns!! I am not sure if am skilled enough to read them but I cannot wait to see what you do with them!
In 1975 I was 11 years old. Times have certainly changed. We used to walk to the store barefooted. I watched my brother play pinball. I liked to get a Betty and Veronica comic book. I always wanted to see what they were wearing. I could go on and on lol. I learned to crochet 2 years before.
OMG those are 8 tracks! That's really vintage 😂 Also i remember friends with those type of stockings 😂 1970 girlie here! The L'eggs were pantyhose that claimed to massage your legs while you wore them. They came in a color called Suntan my mom's favorite. I wore them in the 80s in white or black, can't say they were actually massaging but they did hold up better than the other brands. They came wadded up in Egg 🥚 shaped containers - that's why the names is spelled that way. The tagline was Nothing beats a great pair of legs 😂
Really?! Wow that’s amazing!! I can’t wait to share the stocking with you next week! And ohhhhh I see😂😂😂 thanks for confirming they didn’t really massage your legs 😂 I think that’s what threw me off 😂😂 but that’s cute to learn! I love them incorporating the egg so much into their marketing. Not sure why but I love it ❤😂 thanks for sharing that my friend!
If we wore dresses, we wore pantyhose. So many Sunday mornings with runs in our pantyhose. You couldn’t go to the store to buy a new pair. All stores were closed on Sundays.
so funny!! i was just talking about the crazy amount of cigarette ads in old magazines bahaha. my step dad gave me a ton of 60s-90s craft magazines, i love them!
Well, 50 years ago, a 7 cent coupon for a 50 cents lb of margarine was a big thing respectfully. I was sixteen in 1975. I remember gas at 50 cents a gallon. I remember thinking it a big thing a few years later when making $2.25 an hour was huge. It's weird to me that I'm part of the "vintage" generation. Though that sounds much more cool than being part of the "baby boomer" generation. Nicer somehow. LOL
Oh wow!!! Thanks for looking up the conversion on that!! Yup…. $70 sounds a lot more like it 😂 I see .. so they WERE really fancy house shoes back then! lol thank you for shoring that’s so fascinating!!

Sheer Energy was a nylon (pantyhose) brand. I was born in the early 60s and I remember all of this. So fun to see!
Oh I’m so glad you enjoyed it!!😊
I was born in Nov of 75. :) Fun video. Can't wait to see the stocking you make.

That was surprisingly so interesting. ☺️ I can’t wait to see what you make next week. Your content is so unique. Thank you!
I feel so old after this... although I was born in 75, McCall's magazines were a big part of my mom's life and she was a faithful subscriber...
Hearing a magazine from Christmas 1975 called vintage hits different when you are born in 1974. I am 50. When did I become Vintage? 😅😂😢😂 I also teach history and I do love old magazines and papers they are great educational tools. McCalls is a sewing pattern magazine. You can still buy McCall's patterns at places like JoAnn's Fabric.
McCalls was also sold in South Africa. I remember my mom had a subscription to them.
I loved this video so much! Gave me some good laughs! 😂

OMG those are 8 tracks! That's really vintage 😂
Also i remember friends with those type of stockings 😂
1970 girlie here!
Oh and NOW was the national organization of women a political group for women's rights.
McCall magazine was nation wide. I remember my mom getting it when I was a child and I got it in the 70s 😂 I always enjoyed magazines.
BTW, I was 17 in 1975 😮
That is sooo cute. What a good memory 😌❤
I clearly remember December 1975. My brother was born causing me to miss my Flintstone vitamin dosage. I was almost 4
I don't have the crochet mags but I have a few vintage cake decorating books and they're amazing
Oh I can imagine!! 🎂 ❤
The barefoot stocking is absolutely criminal 😂 I hope you make it!
I 100% will be 😂😂
It’s diabolical
If we wore dresses, we wore pantyhose. So many Sunday mornings with runs in our pantyhose. You couldn’t go to the store to buy a new pair. All stores were closed on Sundays.
I was alive in the 70’s.
I would have been a little over a year old when this came out.
you could use the foot one in October too lol.
I don't know if anyone answered this. McCalls was a national magazine. It was in publication from 1873 to 2002.
Something else....The entire US was gearing up for the Bicentennial in 1976.
Columbia House records was classic!
so funny!! i was just talking about the crazy amount of cigarette ads in old magazines bahaha. my step dad gave me a ton of 60s-90s craft magazines, i love them!
Oh how special!! I hope you enjoy them!’ And omg I know! I wish I could’ve shared more of them because they were hilarious ! 😂❤
I’m dying at 20:31 - 20:57 😂
OMG! Legg's Sheer Energy! Panty hose that were more snug than cheap ones. I'm 59.....wore those until I m9ved on to No Nonsense panty hose! 😂
Omg love that!!!❤😂
Well, 50 years ago, a 7 cent coupon for a 50 cents lb of margarine was a big thing respectfully. LOL
I just looked at what the inflation rate was and $1 in 1975 is about $5.91 today. So those $12 shoes are very expensive at $70 bucks in 2024! 😅
Oh wow!!! Thanks for looking up the conversion on that!! Yup…. $70 sounds a lot more like it 😂 I see .. so they WERE really fancy house shoes back then! lol thank you for shoring that’s so fascinating!!
For perspective, $12 in 1975 would be about $77 today!
I was 10 in 1975
I wonder if you could still use the coupons!? 😂
firsttttt
