It's common for people who lack confidence in themselves to act all high and mighty with whatever they have at their disposal. In Natsumi's case, she can only boast about being the little sister of the heir to the Yakuza Clan. It's her way of providing herself the confidence that the school had taken away from her by placing her in the Reserve Course. Additionally, I found it really sweet how her primary motivation for making it into the main course was her brother, and how she wanted to measure up to him and make him proud by giving him the very best. It showed how much she really cared for him.

And while I wouldn't have been against having more scenes of Natsumi and her brother in the anime, I don't think not having it does anything to deter my satisfaction of what we did get. It is DR3 after all, the bar is very low, and this is really as good as it gets. And yes, Natsumi's dislike of Mahiru isn't justified, but it's not supposed to be. A good character needs flaws, and Natsumi's unjustified hatred of Mahiru is her character flaw. But just because she has flaws doesn't mean she isn't sympathetic. It's just dependent on the viewer, and whether or not they're able to understand her side of things. You seem to have this mindset that the version of Natsumi we see in the game, and the version of Natsumi we see in the anime, are completely different characters, when they really aren't. DR3 is more of an expansion of her character. We just get to see more elements of Natsumi's character that the game just didn't address. That's not a retcon, and even if it was, I don't see how Natsumi's character is worse off for it. And while I'll concede that Sato being a psychopath isn't confirmed, she does display many traits of one, including impulsiveness, lack of empathy, lack of guilt, antisocial behavior, etc. And I know I shouldn't even acknowledge your closing statement, because it makes absolutely no sense and is completely irrelevant to the topic at hand, but I'll humor you anyways. I know people like to focus on Natsumi’s relationships with Sato and Mahiru, but I don’t know, I’m a bit more fascinated by her relationship with Hajime, because it seems he sees a bit of himself in her. I think everything she said to him in that last interaction resonated with him, almost as much as what Juzo said to him. It all basically makes him think “if I’m not talented enough to make the cut, then what good am I?”, which is great in forming his decision to become Izuru
I completely understand natsumi. It's a terrible feeling to want to be close to your brother but no matter what you never feel good enough to be with your own family, constantly in their shadow. You could try your hardest to be good at something in hopes that he'll really seem proud of you but he never seems to care. It can make you colder because you feel like you just need to be good enough and that other people are irrelevant. I know now that it's silly to only want praise from one person but just once I want to feel like his little sister again, I want to feel like someone I can have an amazing time with and who thinks I'm worthy enough to always have a connection to. Hope’s Peak seems to allow the same talent to be enrolled more than once, but I don’t think they would do that so close in time to each other. What would be the point of having an Ultimate Yakuza if you have another in the year after, right?

With that, it also meant that Fuyuhiko was actually second-best until he became heir. So to have the Ultimate Yakuza title, for HPA, it seems that one should have the "talent" + the status of being heir. Natsumi has the "talent/disposition" but not the heir status so that disqualified her from the main course. Sato was false in claiming she was nothing special, though. Her clan itself thought otherwise. This is like with Sonia too. If she didn't have crown princess status, she probably would never have been Ultimate Princess even if she's still a princess by being the second child. HPA would likely value a crown princess more than just a princess that would probably never inherit the throne.
Didn't they mention Kaede had a twin sister who was adopted by some family members. I think it was mentioned in Danganronpa v3 which would explain why her character design is similar to kaede.

Hope’s Peak seems to allow the same talent to be enrolled more than once, but I don’t think they would do that so close in time to each other. What would be the point of having an Ultimate Yakuza if you have another in the year after, right?
@@Doomzdeh My point is she would actually be the Ultimate Yakuza but since she stepped down for her brother, she didn't become it. With that, it also meant that Fuyuhiko was actually second-best until he became heir. So to have the Ultimate Yakuza title, for HPA, it seems that one should have the "talent" + the status of being heir. Natsumi has the "talent/disposition" but not the heir status so that disqualified her from the main course. Sato was false in claiming she was nothing special, though. Her clan itself thought otherwise.
This is like with Sonia too. If she didn't have crown princess status, she probably would never have been Ultimate Princess even if she's still a princess by being the second child. HPA would likely value a crown princess more than just a princess that would probably never inherit the throne.
