Fabulous video...I can't wait for my upgrade...I have a quilt all done except for the border. I'd suggest that you unthread your needle when you are adjusting the design.
Ann Nora Conte - I could do that Ann, but I found it is easier to see if you are spot on matching up the design if you keep the needle threaded. I did unthread for my own purposes on my first sample and could not see where the needle penetrated the fabric on the darker background. On a lighter fabric I might be able to see the needle hole. With it threaded you can easily see where the thread is in the fabric relative to the last stitch.

Great video. I've been trying to do a border using the other method but since I can't see the entire height and width of my fabric, my border design has been too close to an edge when I move to the second stitching. Looks like the method in this video would give me better results, "if" I can figure it out.

Designs in Machine Embroidery Hoop. Dime hoops are sold at Dealers and online in the US at Dealers, Amazon and Designs in Machine Embroidery website.
Thank you Terry this was a great tutorial. Can you please let me know what magnetic hoop you we're using. I'm in Australia & we don't see a lot of these hoops. I would like to explore the options available for the Luminaire. Thank you Heather
Heather Skinner - I appreciate your comments. The hoop I am using is made by Designs in Machine Embroidery or DIME. I do not know if they ship internationally or not. Go to https:/www.shop.dzgns.com or look on Amazon.
I've been trying to use this method on some placemats for myself. I just finished making 4 placemats with many mistakes. I kept thinking on each placemat that I'd learned what I did wrong so the next one would be right, but that was never the case. My placemats are 18" by 13" with a two inch border. I set my border measurements to 17 1/2" by 12 1/2" so I'd have room for the hem but my pattern kept being too long or wide for my placemats. I tried to use the shorten feature but it wouldn't let me shorten it enough. I assume that's because the first stitching on a side wasn't shortened. If your side border is going to be done in two hoopings, do you have to shorten the first one too and if so, how do you determine what size the first hooping should be?
Sheryl DeMott - I tested the feature several times before deciding to adjust the measurements by 1/2 to 3/8”. I don’t shorten or lengthen until I get to the side hooping before a corner. So in your example where there are two side hooping, the adjustment to lengthen or shorten would be at the bottom of the second hooping.
@@terrymaffitt4012 OK. Thanks. That's where I was trying to adjust it but it wouldn't shorten it enough. I'll try making my measurements a little smaller and see what happens.
