Hey Dan. I just got back from El Paredon a few weeks ago and I wanted to highlight what you said about not being able to get out back in the waves. It made me feel a bit better to hear you had a hard time with it lol. I think I made it out back twice in 4 days of trying and both times a big close out set knocked me back into the white wash and I just gave up. El Paredon is great for the absolute beginner or advanced surfer. Anyone in between may not have a great time surfing in El Paredon. Great town though! Mellow was fantastic! Cheers! Also there is an ATM in the small supermarket on the main street.

Hey Chelsea! Yeah, it's just such an exposed spot, so it gets so much swell, and if there isn't much shape (regarding the banks) it does make it tricky!! Yep, cool little place to check out! And thanks for the heads up on the ATM, that might be a new addition!!

I didn’t surf for a year and went here and struggled but got out and swallowed some water in my lungs lol

Good review, I was in Guatemala in October and this is an accurate review, it's cheaper than it's neighbours Mexico and so Salvador and I felt it much more relaxing however the poverty is pretty bad, Antigua is very much a bubble in itself

Sounds good to me for my daughter surfing

Yeah, could be!! Not sure of her level, but if beginner/lower-level intermediate, the rips and swell can be pretty intense along this stretch. Something to keep in mind :)

I loved el paredón, broke a board there but waters deep enough for wipeouts even at 10ft although you’ll touch bottom at low tide. Locals are nice.

‘Not the nicest city’…..I believe the word your looking for is shithole. I remember being in guat city at dusk and the driver starting to get scared because locals where banging on the bus windows and shouting gringo, mind this was prob 20 years ago. I’ve travelled fairly extensively thru central and for me it’s the worse city.

Hahah, I was trying to be polite, but yeah I also felt super unsafe there!! Especially on my own, getting buses at night!
