This is funny! I'm a lefty and My buddy and I literally traded our Husky and Echo blowers to each other a few years ago because of this exact problem. He said to me that fall "my blower "sucks" like literally sucks my pant leg in all the time". I looked at it and it was a lightbulb moment. I took it home and brought him my Husky and problem solved for both of us.

I came upon y'all video because I was looking for left-handers blower backpacks. I have had Echo's for years, and I've never noticed it until watching y'all video....that Echo works better for left-handers. Finally, as a left-hander, we get a break!!!😂😂😂

Hello April and Steve. I am lefthanded so I can relate. Many times my pants got sucked against the intake shield. I switch hands and I have to hold the blower away from my left side but that gets the left arm tired quickly. I think I saw somewhere they make a grill that mounts on the outside of the intake grill creating a gap for airflow. Oh well, almost everything is made for a right hander so being lefthanded, we learn to adapt. Thanks for another video.

The RPMs jump up when the air intake is blocked because without air coming in, there is no load. Kinda like running in a vacuum. Speaking of vacuums, they do the same thing if you block the intake. You can actually see the lower load if you hook up an amp meter.

Well. I’ve only operated an Echo. That’s why I didn’t like gas powered leaf blowers. I got rid of the two I had pretty quick and went back to an electric. I never realized it was Echo sucking my leg. I thought all gas powered were set up the same because of engine rotation. And. I thought electrics had a rotation related to the rotation of the motor.
Learned to pay attention today. ❤

On the positive side (I have an Echo handheld model), I prefer using my right hand, and avoiding the hot muffler side of the blower, and just being aware of the intake air issue. I tend to switch hands as I use it, anyway, depending on conditions.

I had a Stihl blower for many years and it finally died. I bought an Echo to replace it and noticed the intake issue right away. At first I found it mildly irritating, but now that I'm used to the machine, it's not a big deal. I change hands when using a blower anyway so even with the Stihl your shirt or pants can get sucked into the intake. So far, I like the Echo just fine and it seems a bit easier to start than my Stihl was. Stihl has a bad habit of tuning the carbs very lean to please the EPA smog police in the US.

My Ryobi 40V hand held blower sucks from its rear and it works every bit as well as my gas powered Toro blower. I always have enough battery to last at least as long as a tank of gas on my Toro. I am very impressed with battery technology and battery operated equipment. (I have not yet started using electric mowers, though). Ryobi may not be the highest rated brand but it works well. For example, highly rated Milwaukee does not have a cordless blower with as much blowing power as the Ryobi I have.

I'm a rightie, but this is great new for lefties. Echo makes great tools, from what I've read and seen in videos. If my Poulan Pro PR5020 20" chainsaw turned out to be the garbage that a lot of Amazon, Tractor Supply (where I bought it) and other reviewers say it is, I was going to return it and get an Echo. Fortunately for me, I got a good one, or at least it's been great so far. I'll find out if I try to tackle some larger trees. It's all been hurricane and tornado downed trees so far. Not healthy, bigger living ones, of which I have two I'd love to see gone because of long branches and hurricanes' potential to damage roofs or even houses, depending. $1700 quote for the larger one 2 years ago. Yikes!

I have an echo handheld and use it with both hands. I really only notice it suck against really thin fabric, loose fitting shorts. I myself don’t wear long loose t shirts so I can speak for that but for the most part work shorts and pants don’t pose a problem.

I've got a weed eater featherlite that takes air in from the bottom but it's a hassle to replace the starter rope. I've also got a homelite that takes air in on the left side. It will suck your shirt tail up in the crack around the fan guard door.

I have a Hitachi leaf blower and it is set up like an Echo, easier to use left handed. It doesn't matter to me, I do most things with either hand, but I do know when I use the blower in my right hand when the weather is chilly, my sweatshirt gets sucked onto the blower intake, so I use it left handed whenever I have loose fitting clothing on. Hi Steve & April. Love the channel thanks. I found this particularly interesting because I am left handed & I have a Makita leaf blower which quite by accident is designed the correct side for me, ie. The same way as the Echos, by the looks of it. I do find that after using it for a while, I tent to temporarily change sides because of aching arms etc & it does then become a problem sucking at my cloths then until I change back again, so I'm with you on that. I wouldn't change it mind, it has a fantastic little 4 stroke engine & starts first pull after laying up for the winter. Keep up the good work. Thanks & best regards from Cornwall. Adding an extension cover to the intake, something like a large dust pan, so the air is drawn from behind so long as there is enough flow to not stress the motor would work for either blower in the 'right hands'.

I like my ECHO ES210 "Shred N Vac" and I'm not left-handed. Echo make great products, IMHO.
Now, my Makita battery powered blower sucks my pantleg like crazy! Thanks for the video, April & Steve!

Buy an Echo even if you are not a lefty! I am right handed but have an Echo blower, it's been a very reliable power tool. And I've never experienced it sucking in my clothing, that I can remember.

Hello Steve. I just want to start by saying I always enjoy watching your videos on small engines and have always appreciated the way you shoot your videos and limited knowledge of small engines can learn things from your videos. I enjoyed this video about left-handed trimmers but I wanted to ask you what trimmer(s) you would confidently suggest for a homeowner who regularly weeds around the yard on a weekly basis? My trimmer which is more than 15 years old is starting to give up on me so I am going to seriously start looking for a new trimmer. I appreciate anything you could suggest.

I have an Echo blower and love it. But I am also right-handed and have to make sure the blower is away from my leg and clothes, or I experience that same exact problem.

I now have the Stihl bga 86 Cordless Leaf blower. It is Amazing just as Powerful as the petrol version If not more. The Air intake is at the back so no problems there.

Crumbs Steve! Brilliant video, I never noticed this, thanks so much 👍👌👏.
I use a blower every day and have for years only bought Stihl BG86's. Pretty good hand held blowers.
One of them is getting a little ancient and cranky so I was going to try an Echo as I have a lot of brilliant 'X series' Echo stuff.
Whoa, I'm a firm fisted righty so now no way.....😁

Motorized work aids can sometimes be useful but the best leaf blower is a leaf rake. Give your neighbours a break and get some exercise.

Im a Lefty an use a Backpack Blower because of this. Unfortunately, my Solo 470KAT just had the coil fail and I'm unable to find a replacement. This Blower runs at a lower RPM and is 62 decibels. Very pleasing sound but I guess it's over since the coil failed.

I have been using an Echo blower for a while now, and I have never even noticed this issue. Now that I think of it, I guess it has happened, but I don't think it is that much of an issue (for me at least).

Could it be because some of their models can be used to suck up and shread leaves then discharge the mulched leaves into a bag? Do any of the other manufacturers' have this option? Good points because my Echo sucks in my t-shirts when i use it as a blower.

Are there left and right handed chainsaws? As a left hander I sometimes feel that I'm too lined up with the chain.
