Thank you for these videos! When I was a kid I used to follow the trash truck around the neighborhood. They'd let me throw stuff in the hopper and sometimes let me run the levers. I'm 62 now and must say I've had a lifelong fascination with these trucks. If I lived wherever you do I'd gladly help you out for free!
It's funny that back when we were kids, we would wait every week to see the garbage truck come by, and we would be so fascinated, and today, we're still fascinated with them! Lol.
Exactly why I love my job! I look forward to doing this all the time! Nothing like crushing stuff and getting paid to do it!! So much fun!!! Totally appreciate you very much!

nice red leather sofa at 29:15... Sometimes it is a pity to see unfortunate leather goods when they die under the blade. Once in the receiver, they lie in horror, realizing their fate. Some of them immediately go to execution, others turn out to be littered with garbage. I understand how scared and sad they are at this moment. Then the blade presses them against the cold metal, tears them to pieces, and defiles the delicate soft leather with vile mud. The blade descends, and they find themselves in the dark, pressed against each other and against the disgusting garbage. They want to break out, breathe fresh air, see the light of day - but the merciless machine will not leave them the slightest chance. The blade opens only to throw in the next batch of garbage, burying the delicate leathers under the garbage, and making their torment even more terrible.

Well I finished watching that one in about 3 or 4 stages with my cat Floyd. When my cat demands my time, I surrender and watch a Bulky Crusher video.
Like wow, I lost track of the number of couches you picked up, many better than what I've got. Do people not get furniture upholstered anymore? Growing up, we got the couch and chair upholstered twice. Come to think of it, the two upholstery places I can think of around here I don't think any longer in business.
Also a ton of pressboard furniture. Crazy how low quality furniture gets ground to dust by the truck.
I was wondering at the end if you can provide a ground view of your dumped load, as well as the bird's eye view (which is good, I must admit) ? That way I can get a better look at what contents I remember in the truck. Most of the furniture is unrecognizable, of course.
I don't get rid of my sofas until they're pretty worn out... They're soooo cheaply made they kinda break easily or tear up.. I have kids so they don't really last long.. I can't get a bottom view of the unloading process.. there isn't any where to put the cam.. and I can't use any tripods away from the truck.. sorry

I had no idea a lowly smartphone battery could be a fire hazard. I wonder if someone had lost their phone. Have you ever had to fight a fire on route?
Anyway there is a UA-cam video of a garbage truck fire. The fire crew had to cut open the side of the truck with a cutting torch to get at the smoldering fire They tried accessing from the back but the compactor wouldn't fully open, which would allow them to extinguish the fire from the rear. No way the truck would be allowed to continue with any trace of something still burning. I guess the truck body was probably a write-off.
Yes, I have cought on fire before because of a phone battery, guess it was wedge between sofa and when I crushed it, I guess it sparked and started a fire.. I had walked to the front of the truck and I took off.. when I looked to the rear of the truck in my mirror I noticed smoke.. I immediately stopped in middle of an intersection, away from other vehicles.. grabbed my phone, got out, ran to the back saw a fire had started inside packer.. called for Fire department. Told them where I was (luckily the fire department was up the street) grabbed fire extinguisher and just kept the flames in check so it wouldn't burn my Hydraulic hoses... Fire department got there a couple mins later.. I got in truck dumped the load in middle of the street.. fire department put it out... My supervisor got there with our mechanic... Mechanic checked out the truck.. truck was good to keep on going.. so I just continued route and finished up.. the load I had dumped is cleaned up by another department that have kabotas! That was a crazy day!
Wow, that was a crazy day for sure! The video I saw elsewhere on UA-cam couldn't do that because the compactor got jammed (as you said, fire probably got to the hydraulics).
Now I see why you are so extra careful about Lithium Ion batteries, even ones in phones.
bulky crusher you could ask a college to compact you with the shovel and make a video inside the shovel of your garbage truck?
