It has been confirmed that Ryu ga gotoku 8 will be called Like a dragon 8 in the west, so now we have :
Yakuza 6 - Yakuza Like a Dragon - Like a Dragon 8.
reconfirmed, it's not called 8, it's called Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth which is a little better but now it'll be way harder to differentiate spinoffs and mainline games since they're all called "like a dragon: subtitle here
You have no idea how happy I am seeing you upload content regularly again. Don't even think about leaving us like that again.
Seeing as you were the one who introduced me to this series I am always happy to listen to you talk about any aspect of it! Great to have you back… at least for now.
As someone who’s a huge fan of this series after being introduced to it from your retrospective awhile back (oh god that was a long time ago lol) I really appreciate you talking about these weird little spin offs like that prequel movie I knew nothing about until now, it’s pretty much the reason why I’ve enjoyed your channel for the longest time
I’m sure there’s a good amount of people wanting to hear your thoughts on the modern RGG games but honestly I really enjoy just hearing you recommend the more low key stuff out there that doesn’t get much attention, much love as always 🙏
This is honestly the most I've seen of this film, and I wasn't even aware of that prequel film! I really like how the prequel films gives us some of the youngest Kiryu we'll ever see, even now.
And I just like to say your very early yakuza vids are what got the game in my mind years ago, and eventually what got me a PS2 copy of 1 as well as the pc ports that had trickled down over the years, so this was a great treat!
You feel like a friend that went away for a long time and you came back.
The original Yakuza Your Next Favorite video was what got me to want to try out the series and led me to buy Yakuza 0 day one. Have played all the Yakuza games since and Yakuza LAD was just an incredible game. Nice to see you talk about the film since it doesn't get much love. Hope you may cover Ishin Kiwami and the Yakuza stage play.
still want the same actor to play kiryu if they ever decide to have another live action,
Being a Yakuza fan, think it's really cool you've taken a proper look at this movie, especially with your insight on miike's filmography. I'm a novice to JP crime films, though I do want to get into it more, but I can appreciate that someone would go the extra mile to mention the films that influenced the games.
It's been a while since I saw the movie, but my stance on it is more or less similar. It's an entertaining movie, but as a adaptation it really does feel like a cut down version of the story of the first game. Looking back, Kazuki Kitamura did a really good job playing kiryu and really gets his mannerisms and attitude down to a tee. The addition of Crazy Kenband's music was also very cool. As far as Game to movie adaptations go, I wouldn't call it great, but it's better than most given who was assigned to direct it.
I've surprised you finally got around to talking about that prologue movie, since that's even more obscure than the movie. I've known about it for years but not so much the details(let alone it being subtitled), so hearing what it's about was very cool and insightful. It seemed like a neat prequel video that really adds something to the game's story. As to whether it fits with the game or the movie, I think given the release date of it being in between yakuza 1 and 2, I think it's pretty easy to infer that it was a tie in to the game. Eitherway, it's an essential piece of yakuza's story that not surprisingly seems to be buried by sega, even though it adds more context to the game.
Great Video, would like to see you cover more of miike's other output like leylines.
I love this movie. Like there's a lot of dumb things about it, but it was some of the most fun I've had watching a movie. You did a really good job at explaining the things the movie actually does well even if the overall product was messy. Great video and I'd love to see you do more Yakuza content.
I haven't seen it yet but to me it sounds very similar to one of Miike's other films, First Love.
Seeing how you manage to string along the video with excellent video content while not interrupting your own spoken momentum cannot be understated. Great work, Hero!
If you looking for a good asian crime drama with a bit more action check out City Of Violence (2006)! It´s about a real estate deal gone south, childhood friends becoming enemies and a ton of well choreographed fights. Highly recommended if you need a Yakuza movie vibe!
Damn that prequel movie kinda established the plot with Yumi a lot better than Original game did.
Great to have you back on UA-cam!
You are the main reason I started playing this series and I haven’t stopped loving the games since ❤
I started Yakuza 0 just last week based in large part to your videos. It’s my first Yakuza/Like a Dragon game and I’m eager to try the rest! And glad to see you uploading again ❤
How hilarious the timing is. I've literally just seen that movie less than 24 hours ago and somehow your video, one of the rare reviews of this film online, shows up. Fantastic.
Considering the recent Sonic movies show a Sega logo at the start showing various Sega properties (Yakuza included), I'd be intrigued to see them attempt another Yakuza movie. Of course that's not to say it would be good, but I still think the potential is most defintely there. Perhaps an adaptation of 0 or retelling of 1 with elements from later games included? Idk
Ohhhh I actually love this film! A hidden gem for sure!
Finally your channel is once again HyperBitHero as it should!
I'm so happy you're back doing more videos. I would love to see another video game review!
Yes! Amazing to see you again!
The king of making great videos is back at it again.
I just watched this movie for the first time recently and while I didn't really like it, I had fun watching it. Every scene with Majima was a joy.
Glad you're doing stuff with Yakuza again! Loved your first videos on the series!
Great video, I remember watching this movie on Google Video of all places, surely not Miike’s best but good fun for any fan and still with that original Yakuza energy that got lost in the later games
Awesome! I just finished Yakuza 1 and 0 after seeing your video recommending it. Glad to see you upload again and keep up the great work 👍
That Killzone 2 Radec Academy mention takes me back.
Killer timing, I just discovered and watched this two days ago.
Oh damn, more Yakuza videos, love it!
Hell yeah, I'm glad your back king.
I hope you'll be able to make more content lately
i've been saying "that’s a よし from me" ever since watching this video
Never knew there was a prequel film to Yakuza 1 on the PS2, that's really cool
My man Nagoshi said, fine I'll be the villain in my game. Absolute chad!
id love to see a video on those Yakuza crime dramas, they look fantastically dingy gonna watch them
HyperBitHero is back, baby!
Hyperbithero uploading is my favorite new thing ngl
Missed this channel so much.
Hell Yeah, Favorite game and one of my favourite classic UA-cam channels
Any excuse to shit on Kiwami is a good one.
Welcome back mate great to see you
I'm so glad that u lead me to yakuza, I'm super happy u have been uploading more frequently cuz tbh u r one of my fav youtuber! Keep on the great work and in a way I feel that I'm in debt with u cuz yakuza really change my life, so ty for that as well!
Ps: can u give us the link to buy the movie, ty!
Takashi Miike was the perfect person to adapt Yakuza into a movie.
It was like if Majima made a movie based on what happened in December 2005, only he wasn't there for most of it, didn't properly remember what had happened for the parts he was there for, and inexplicably wanted people to believe he read the Nikkei stock news for some reason.
The moment you realize that Majima's eyepatch being on the wrong eye only adds to, rather than subtracts from, the charm of this movie is the moment you understand this movie.
I knew about this film along with some other live action adaptions like one for the PSP games , a stage play based off of Yakuza 1, and an upcoming Japanese drama based off of Lost Judgement. But I had no idea about that 40 minute prologue film and I am kinda interest in watching it since I've always wanted to see Kiryu's relationship with Yumi and Kazam fleshed out a lot more.
I'm a bit sad to see that the focus was not on Kiryu but more so the chaos around him. To me, the characters of Yakuza are what makes these games so great (I even made a video on Ichiban on my channel!). I still like that this film exists, and hope that there might be more to come for my boy Ichiban.
Great work, as always!
Funnily enough I decided to watch this for the first time about a month ago. I watched it with a group of friends and honestly it's a pretty entertaining group watch. Majima is a riot.
Ah man I totally forgot about Ichi the Killer! Well worth a revisit now I think
This Yakuza stuff is coming full circle. I missed your content
Im a huge Yakuza fan, but I had no idea there was a film, let alone a film by the guy that made one of my favorite horror movies ever, Audition! Thanks for the tip, looking forward to more of your stuff.
Damm dude you're actually making yakuza videos again... that's pretty good
W title
This movie holds a special place for introducing me into the crazy world of jp yakuza movies. Alot of them are pretty out there and a bit over the top crazy but it is part of its charm sometimes in how unhinged they are
Hyperbithero will make the Like a dragon rpg video the same day Demo finishes the Angel’s Egg video.
Welcome back fren.
I remember vaguely hearing about that prequel movie but I had barely a clue what it showed. Very interesting as always
THE KING HAS RETURNED
you showed 5 seconds of "Digimon Adventure: Our War Game" - a film I've never heard of before - and somehow I was already like "is this a Hosoda film?"
it looks so much like Summer Wars
Oh shit, this video isn't about the JRPG. Ok this really is my next favorite, thank you!
loved this movie back in the day, thought it was a great adaptation. Great video!
We missed you king
This hit the spot :D
Don't know how to explain, but I just love this movie. Great Video.
Holy shit, you are alive.
Finally, Bit
I watched this movie a few months back but i totally forgot about the prequel for the movie also great review i love seeing you talk about yakuza stuff
kino is FUCKING BACK ON THE MENU
holy fuck that's the 3rd upload this year
I love Yakuza Like a Dragon (Yakuza 7), Ichiban has become my favorite character in the series.
Thank you for sharing the 2007 film. I had no idea it existed!
I’ve heard of this movie and seen clips of it before but NEVER have I heard a single word of the prequel movie which seems super interesting!
Hero uploading often is weird but highly appreciated.
you truly a "hero" for this
Okay, you got me LMAO
Luckily for you this topic's about as, if not more interesting than what I actually came here for.
The main actor is Solid Snake motion cap actor. He's also the main villain in Godzilla Final Wars. And he's also Neko Samurai lol he saves a kitty
I have never heard of that prequel movie, I'll definitely have to check it out!
Not gonna lie sometimes there's a mini game i miss from one game to the next when things change up, a very honest part of me will miss can collecting in Like A Dragon 8.
My favorite Mike's film is Crows Zero, and the funny thing is that the main character of the Crows Zero movies is Oguri Shun who also played the role of Someya in Yakuza 6!
Hell yeah mah i'd love to hear you talk about obscure japanese crime films
I remember watching this on youtube before playing the games lol
I got the feeling that he make this video before RGG Summit 2022 :))
Kiryu has acutally shown heat outside of gameplay in K2 I think, in the photographer mission.
There's also other Like A Dragon movies & tv Adaptations. Kurohyou duology had shows & there's a lesser known mini series. I recommend Johan Öberg's video on other LAD live action stuff.
Long Live OG Yakuza.
EYY LETS GO
you should cover the PsP Yakuza games which barely anyone are aware of them at all and are actually really great stories as well as has different gameplay style to the mainline games.
You cheeky S.O.B.
great video - could you please list in the video description somewhere all the films you showed? i want to look them all up and im sure im not the only one
The prologue and the Miike adaptation still easily my favorite video game movies
It’s actually gonna be called Like A Dragon 8 in the English versions now. 1:31
Thankfully. The director said they're dropping Yakuza entirely. Dumb decision, but I'm happy anyway.
Dope
He's alive
any plans for an Ichi the Killer video? Both the manga and miike film are very good.
Ah yes, a new vid. Good
10:29 casually name-dropping Tetsuo like it isn't one of the grossest movies ever made lol
Shinya Tsukamoto has an incredible filmography. I had to include his roles from several Miike films in this video.
@@HyperBitHero for sure, his films definitely deserve more exposure in the west, hopefully this video gets more people interested.
"While I understand the value of including some characters with an outside perspective on things, who can show us what the city is like to an ordinary citizen..."
Maybe I am wrong, but doesn't Haruka fill this role? I understand she is intimately related to the plot. But while playing the game I feel Kiryu is seeing the city through HER eyes and that is partially why he does things early on. I dunno. Maybe that is an odd way to frame what happens. But I definitely felt this my second time through the game.
1:47 oh I guess I didn’t know he made the Diamond Is unbreakable movie
Like a swaggin 😎
Nice video
Miike's film, Yakuza Apocalypse, is totally fucking wild.
You should definitely cover more JP crime movies. Ever since playing the yakuza games I’ve wanted to watch yakuza movies, but I have literally no idea where to start or how to obtain them
My DVD of this wont play anymore D:
17:25 know where the extended fight scene for the funeral can be found online?
Friendship ended with Kiwami 1, 40 minute direct-to-dvd prequel is my new best friend.
