I think the thing with trends is that ever person has a different limit. Some people can't get enough of fairytale retelling and some people were done with them three Cinderella retelling ago. As long as there are readers reading them, I think we'll keep seeing them.
I can relate when it comes to standalones are better off a standalones, some books are masterpieces but should remain a standalone... at least this is what I feel
Thank you for the amazing content recently! And thank you for staying you after all these years of content, I've been here a few years now and I keep falling in love with your videos. Thank you
The fact that you hv taken a promise to read heroes of Olympus this year, (which is superb) i can't wait.. because it's awesome, the series is so good, better the pj..
I could see the whole trend of books in series or standalone a getting books. Graceling series got a new books, and it’s prob mostly authors trying to get more from their most popular works, and also over time more could be in that world that they just thought of, or the author loves that world.
I love seeing you are being very active lately! Yesterday I was watching some old videos of yours just to realize that I have been following you for over 6 years. I'm really proud of you and how far you've come 💕💕
I was thinking that too. I was specifically thinking about the rise in sourdough starters. It also made me wonder when/if we will start to see books and other media taking place in covid times, featuring masks and lockdown and other elements of this period, or will people choose to write a fictional 2020 and on.
@@gfowler482 Ooh, I would totally read a book about a group of friends that live together during a pandemic and seeing each of them reacting differently to being in lockdown and all!
I read Stephen King's latest, Billy Summers, which takes place just before and references things to come in the future with the pandemic but I am just curious how many people would depict an accurate 2020 with whatever story they tell and how many would choose to just ignore it and tell the story like normal.
Me watching this halfway through the year and seeing how the cooking and baking romance trend has taken OFF. And yep, lots of sports romance, and continuing finished series / worlds is definitely happening.
I have a feeling the cooking/baking trend has a lot to do with people turning towards those things while stuck inside these last two years. Hope one of my favorite books from last year gets more love if baking does catch on. (A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking, by T. Kingfisher)
Even if I listen to a lot of Korean Pop groups, and stan some, I still prioritize buying books. 📙💷 The latest song that I like is Blessed-Cursed by Enhypen. 🎧
My mom is from the Philippines and I would LOVE to be able to see more (if any) ya books based in this setting. Here's to hoping that you're right, and books about other different cultures being more widespread 🤞
"I'm dirty snow" lol so rude to yourself! I think the stand alone continuation is so interesting bc it's like it's not necessary. If I was interested in reading any I'd def only wait until I could get it at the library. Cool to see how many witch books are coming out.
I think magical realism, mysteries and time travel will be popular. Maybe due to Covid wanting to go back in time :D LOL Jesse you are not side character in my book you would probably be a really cool movie character. Very funny! Awesome new content and hopefully you do that secret not that secret project. ( iykyk) lol
Well.... I did count you saying 'trend' 20 times and I'm wondering how many got cut out lol Also like I think I can see a trend slowly rising in cooking or restaurant related books. Two of my last reads in 2021 were cooking related (A Pho Love Story and Recipe For Disaster) and I've kind of found I slowly acquired a few of these. Other than that I think maybe we might see a slow rise again in Hunger Games style books. I think dystopia has been on the back burner but with TikTok reviving older books and bringing them back to the forefront of everyones minds, an older trend might come back around as these older titles have another chance to shine. I know I've seen The Selection in stores a lot more surrounding BookTok tables, and I think it would be fun to see those kinds of book shine again.
My daughter loves kpop... buys so many albums, including multiples with different cards, and keeps telling me about them, showing me videos etc. She’s also got one of our cats loving JHope. We have found the cat with her lips of JHope’s lips on posters, she, the cat, collects Mang, and steals JHope figures and cards. She even just turns up when my daughter is about to watch a new BTS song to watch too, even though no one has told her there’s a new song, and lifts her head to stare at the tv when she hears JHope’s voice.
I really wanna read more! I've been in a reading slump for 3 YEARS!!! And i'm reading less and less and less. I haven't even picked up a book in 2022... I can't keep up with the new books and trends anymore. It makes me a little sad, not gonna lie
Haha I loved this!!!! This definitely made my day better. Tomorrow is my 17th birthday and my mom is currently snowed in at my grandmas house. I don't know if I will get to see her tomorrow and so it has left me pretty sad. This video just made my day 100 times better!!! You rock Jesse!!!
the only thing interesting in those trends to me is the influencer one lol, the korean one could be interested, I just don't trust them to be faithful... now if it was books written in korea and translated... that'd be a different story
I really hope to see more books featuring the morally gray FEMALE character and the sunshine MALE. Or maybe even LGBTQ+. I feel like both fantasy and mafia-ish books could do with that.
I am not saying that so many books about witches release bc of the Scarlet Witch, but I am saying that so many books about witches release because of Scarlet Witch.... 🙈
I hope this isn’t a trend for this year, because I can’t stand it…it’s not a genre as such…but books written with two main characters, and the chapters alternate for each character…I don’t mind it every now and then, but I read a lot last year…and in different genres…
I’m really hope that more horse riding books for older audiences come out this year and I really want more books on dragons Also thank you for all the content Jesse. I’ve been binge watching your videos these last few days 🥰
Before I watch what the actual trends are, I am just going to go ahead and say that we are most likely going to see a lot of post-apocolyptic, dystopian and also pandemic stories coming the next lot of years because of the state of the world in the last two. We have already started seeing some, another one by Emily St. John Mandal is coming out, All That's Left in the World is another but male and male romance, and Year of the Reaper. I am looking forward to it because I enjoy reading about all those things. One that I am not looking forward to is probably the death games we might also be seeing. I don't particularly enjoy reading or watching competitions but after squid game, and again the last two years, I expect some death games will be popping up.
love that u like kpop Jesse. I am mostly a generation two stan of groups though ngl. I love Girls' Generation, Super Junior, and SHINee. I also love Kangta who was in H.O.T back in the 90s. BoA too who debuted in 2000. I do like BTS but i don't love them as much as I used to.
Just to say we really appreciate all the extra effort that you have been putting into your channel lately, it hasn’t gone unnoticed :)

We really have been getting a lot of Asian inspired fantasy and that's spilling into this year. There's so many I can't wait for!
Have you checked Phoenix Extravagant? :D
@@io.nebulae I've never heard of that one! It looks so cool!
A nice trend would be me actually getting to read more this year.
jsdjajkfjs literally same xD and preferably fiction books not college books lol (although i really gotta get better at staying caught up with both,,,)
I think the thing with trends is that ever person has a different limit. Some people can't get enough of fairytale retelling and some people were done with them three Cinderella retelling ago. As long as there are readers reading them, I think we'll keep seeing them.
Exactly! For me it's the "who did it" I can read them aaaallllll but retelling? Oh gosh no Cinder for me is enough!

I am SO excited about the baking and cooking books!
I just always spot Four by Veronica Roth on your shelves in videos. It is one of my favourite books. One of my favourite characters. Love!

Imagine how fun a book shopping competition would be!!!!
Jesse posting so much is already making 2022 a much better year
I believe the uprising of books about cooking/baking is due to the fact that many people have started to bake more while they were in lockdown.
I was thinking that too. I was specifically thinking about the rise in sourdough starters. It also made me wonder when/if we will start to see books and other media taking place in covid times, featuring masks and lockdown and other elements of this period, or will people choose to write a fictional 2020 and on.

I LOVE the bloopers at the end!!!😂❤
i have a feeling we're going to get a lot of sapphic romance books soon

Just bought Withes Steeped in Gold and only just found out its a series... I dislike series, but hopefully this will be a good one.
