Great video. One of the best places I've birded. I visited there...gosh some 7 years ago. Brilliant place. My video I made of my trip is on UA-cam still. Thanks for reminding me of all those great memories. I wish I could visit again some day.
Thanks!! It is a really great place with so many birds to see in such a close spot to Melbourne. We go there quite often which is really nice! I'm so glad that you enjoyed your trip there! I will have to go & see your video!! How exciting!! 😀
@naturephotographychallenge It's one of the first birding videos I made so it's a bit amateurish and no commentary but defo shows what a great place it is. And like you say so so many birds there. I remember I wasted half the morning getting the key from the offices first would've been great to get in there at first light rather. Of well beggars can't be choosers I guess, I still had a blast.
If you're interested to go to the WTP, check out this link! Apparently you can apply for either a long term pass or a short term pass (I think that short term pass is new as I didn't know that was available!!). www.melbournewater.com.au/services/licences-and-permits/birdwatching-access#Site%20Access%20Conditions
Is it necessary to have a key to the lock of the gate? If so, can "anyone" who wants to bird the treatment plant get it? Like a birder from Sweden who plan a Aussie trip, and would like to spend quite some time birding in the Melbourne vicinity...
The Western Treatment Plant is not open to the general public. You have to be in possession of a key that opens all the gates. A key is only accessible from someone who has registered and paid a fee. You can, however, go there on bird tours with local birders who have access & knowledge (and a vehicle as you definitely need that!). The WTP is about 30-40 minutes west of the Melbourne CBD and only accessible by car. If you are keen on going there with a bird guide, I can give you some contacts. Otherwise, there are loads of places you can go bird watching around Melbourne and Victoria for free (though you still will need a car). 🙂
@@naturephotographychallenge Thx for the reply! A car will be rented, that's for sure. The itinerary for the trip is just in its cradle, the earliest I can go is 2024, since I need to gather *much* more money before I can go. In the meantime I look everywhere on YT for good infomative Aussie-videos on good places to bird. It's always a good thing to have options to sift through... I love your videos for many reasons, one of them is the map and info on where you are.🙂
@@Hummingbirder1 Thanks so much!! I watch so many other YT birding channels too and they rarely tell you where they are! I kind of like to know where they've gone (even if I'm not planning on going there or I'm even in the same country!). You have some time before your trip so you will come up with a great plan I'm sure. If you need any further ideas or information, please feel free to ask us. Always happy to help another birder!! 😀

Great vid! lots of awesome birds, I'm a local Aussie making Birding videos but with a more comical approach! I also draw birds for my viewers so if you want to drop a comment of what bird you'd like drawn for you, it will also stay a part of my channel banner as I grow. Keep up the awesome work, Birders gotta stick together!! :)
