The frog images were great! I love it when stuff like that happens when you’re out shooting. It’s so inspiring!! Thanks for taking us along on your day out. 🙂
Awwww…. The little frog! Love those images!
Kim, the photos and videos of the tiny frog, are excellent. Looking forward to next Sunday.
Thank you!
Good sunday morning Kim, greats shots of the fungi, the frog shots and video are great. I wish more would get out and appreciate what we have on this earth. Even a walk in a city park can be a great experience. Have a blessed and safe week.
Thank you very much. You too
Morning Kim. Another super vlog to wake up to on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning and thank you. The frog image 11.21 is so stunning and one of the best I have ever seen. It's pose looks like it's got an attitude. Hope you have a wonderful week.
Thank you for your kind words Joe and for watching. Appreciate the time and kindness 🙂
It's amazing to see different bful things after a rain shower. The smell and colors of the woodland in every seasons feel surely different and much more magical every time. I really feel connected to your frog and fungi image. It was really worth going out to capture them. They are really magical to see.
Thank you Palak! The smell of rain certainly is beautiful! Well worth getting out to enjoy
Another very enjoyable video Kim. The wee frog was cute, the slug....not so much. LOL.
Haha! Thank you Susan
Slow down and connect - that's a great message for the rest of us to heed.
If you don’t have, or want, to carry a small flash for your macro-shots, consider bringing along a small fold-up reflector. Natural light is nice, but a little reflected light can give you a stop or two, and give you more settings options. Loved the pictures, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the suggestion Jim 🙂
I think the truest and most magical experiences - like here - are when you release expectations and simply go out into the wonderment. With an open mind, and a sense of adventure... mother Nature will never cease to amaze :)
Andy C
So very true Andy! Thank you for sharing your lovely thoughts
I feel like I should start a 'connectometer' to count how many times you say the word 'connect' in your videos now. Today I counted 11 times. Much less than the last couple of weeks I think. 😄 Those days in the woods when you find something completely unplanned are the best days, aren't they? I have the most fun when that happens.
You should count beautiful as well
😂 Interesting analysis! Thanks for sharing Jeff. I just speak what a feel in the moment. I guess if me repeating certain words helps people to become consciously away of how they can connect more when out that that's wonderful! Yes- so very true!
Kim, thanks for sharing the wonderful images. I am looking forward to our next rainy season.👍🏿🙏🏿
Enjoy when the time comes 😊
Great vedio Kim, thanks. BUT, I will be the odd one out. LOVE the image you captured of the limbs talking about your lens choice (14-30) that was also a great shot!!!
Thank you very much Mark!
Have you had a chance to try the 24x120. I replaced my 24x200 with that one. I love the 14x30, 24x120 and 100x400 for my 3 lense trio. Love my 105 macro as well. Crazy details with that lens. It's so much fun finding tiny landscape compositions 😊
I haven't had a chance to try the 24x120. Great to hear you enjoy using it
Great video 👍🙂
Thanks!
Your right, the frog was worth it.....
Nice frog
Have you read a book called The hidden life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben? I think you would find it fascinating. Also have you tried a product called Smidge to deter those pesky midges. It's made in Scotland. Love your video's and find them very inspirational
Thank you Pauline! I have the book you recommend. Picked it off the shelf a couple of days ago with the intention to begin reading it. I will ensure I get round to it soon 😄 Yes - I usually use an essential oils blend but didn't wear it on this day. We don't usually get midges where I live so was a bit unexpected
I’m still searching for the elusive fungi but everything is bone dry at the minute so I’m hoping for rain soon. As for midges well I’ll swap you some of those for some horseflies.
Fingers crossed it rains for you soon Barry! Oh the horseflies have been bad where I live this year too.
Your frog reminds me of Harry in Death in Paradise.
Thanks for the video. One for you, Christian Fletcher's latest.
PS He might gree to appearing on your podcast.
Thank you for the suggestion. I'll be sure to look into his work
@@kimgrantphotography It's a collaboration.
Have you ever noticed that some Wild flowers will close when the isn't shining ..
Yes! It's beautiful to notice
Challenge yourself more, ditch your zoom lenses and only use prime Lenses, look through your EXIF data too which focal length you use the most and get those focal length in prime Lenses, is is a great joy to use prime Lenses !
Thanks for the suggestion. We all have our own processes. I love my telephoto lenses at the moment. If I went down the prime lense route just now, I'd be potentially lugging a lot more weight around with me. Plus, the cost of buying them. I love the versatility of the zoom lenses and the options they present. For me, photography is about experience. If I enjoy the gear I have, I'm happy 😊
@@kimgrantphotography Real good zoom lenses is big, heavy and very expensive, you can get excellent compact prime Lenses which outperforms zooms. My old mentor always said, with two prime Lenses a wide angle and a short tele Lens you can cover just about 90-95% of mist kind of photography, wat I meant is that you can push yourself much more with prime Lenses. I ditches zoom Lenses in 1982, never looked back !!!
What a great experience, and you’ve got beautiful images of the frog as a visual memory. What a gift from nature.
Beautiful work! Don’t you wonder what the frog was thinking? I always thank the animals when they give me such extended times with them! I was out photographing yesterday being eaten alive by mosquitoes, but I got some nice shots of sleeping bees, wasps, and moths! Oh the crazy things we do for a photograph!
I do wonder these things sometimes, especially when photographing birds. Sounds like you had a wonderful time yesterday. Lovely to hear 😊
100% agree re using photography to connect with the environment. Anything that encourages me to take time to focus on the world around builds appreciation of its riches. .
Beautiful words Tim 😊
So nice! I love how you remind me that just being out and shooting in nature is the important part. Doesn't matter if you don't get a keeper. The frog was beautiful... and probably would have loved the slug!
Thanks Rob! The experience is definitely the biggest reward 😊
Simply wonderful! Thanks Kim!
Appreciate the reminder to ignore the weather at hand and focus on what the day and location presents. The video displays wonderfully well finding sunshine on a rainy day. Thank you, Kim
Thank you Steven. Enjoy whatever weather comes your way 😃
Since you seem to be getting more interested in intimate landscapes with photographing fungi etc I highly recommend that you try out using a monopod instead of the tripod. The other thing that you might find of great advantage because of increased depth of field without having to photo stack--try some micro 4/3 gear, something like an OM5. OM systems make three great macro lenses but really I think you'll find if you get the 12 to 100 which is 24 mm to 200 mm in full frame equivalency is probably all you're going to need for doing amazing close-ups.
Scottish Midges are hardcore. It takes focused endurance to be anywhere near them, let alone stay in one spot to film without being eaten alive😂😂
I hope this autumnal season brings a riot of colour because last autumn was cancelled.😢
They certainly are hard to withstand. We had a lovely autumn up here last year. Hope you have more luck this year
@@kimgrantphotography When I ventured north of the border, wild camping and Bothy hunting, my weapon of choice was an all-over head net. I also prayed to the Light Breeze gods.
I suspect that a head net may not be photogenic when filming in front of the camera.🤣🤣
Nothing compared to the sandflies down on the West Coast of the South Island here. If they don't finish you off the first time they drag your body in to the bushes and save you for later!
Your videos and voice are so calming. The frog photo is beautiful!
Thank you!
I like your video this is first time I watched something new to do to explore and enjoy I appreciate you
And I like to invite you in India to explore India's Nature I promise you will love india
Thank you for a lovely video Kim. Frogs and toads are great favourites of mine, ever since I met my first toadlet when we were both little. Your little frog was in fact a baby toad (toadlet) and you captured it beautifully in both stills and video. I also happen to have a real fondness for snails, so your comments were lovely to hear. I think your photograph of the cute slug from previously was wonderful. You certainly made it look very endearing. You must be the only photographer who can make a slug look cuddly!
Wow them pictures of the frog are amazing 👏 and I hope to one day be able to get some pictures like that ❤❤❤
Plus I love all your photos and all your videos thank you
I had just poured a cold brew to settle back to enjoy your video when your "Oh my goodness" snapped me to attention. The recent arrival of the new fungus on that log plus your comfort in the rain throughout the video were good reminders to get outdoors to see what's happening in all conditions. Great video. Thanks Kim
Fantastic Kim! Love the little frog, the colours in the photo are so beautiful!❤
Oh that little frog moment was so beautiful - I was captivated by it! Those precious moments can make the rest so worth while.
Love your efforts and results. Very inspiring. 😊
Thank you very much for the great video Kim!
Wonderful video, and adorable frog!
the quality of your video are so good Kim. Invest in a bean-bag to help take very low photos where the tripod (if you can't invert a center column) just won't work. Love the little frog :)
Thanks for the suggestion Robert 😊
Another fantastic video....and I looked up what a midgie is....and they look awful!
Thank you! Thankfully we rarely get them where I live. Can be very harsh in the Highlands over the summer
Nice frog shots in the moment.
Love the little frog!
I am moved by your awareness of being out with nature regardless of conditions reveals the unknown. Fungi can be one of those subjects that require us to meet them where / when they are. Lo along come other life forms.
Tolerating midges is part of the experience. Thanks for that sacrifice
Be well!
Thank you very much! Nature makes me feel so alive and connected.
Thank you!
Enjoyed the video Kim - loved the frog images - got me thinking about exploring macro photography 🤔
Glad you enjoyed it Andrew. Enjoy your exploration onto the world of macro
Love the frog!! And if there’s one thing I’ve learned from all the UK photographers in the past few weeks, bring some really good bug spray if I ever go to Scotland. You, Henry Turner, Nigel Danson, and even Mike Fernie at Drive Tribe have all been swarmed with the “midges” lately.
It's good advice! We don't usually get them where I live and this was tame. The Highlands can be brutal for midges in the summer!
I love that you talk about the spirituality and maybe even animism that I myself feel when I'm in nature, especially with my camera. Because the connection you get is important and touching.
I myself have started a UA-cam channel (in danish), with both photography, outdoor life and adventure, and I will eventually talk about this almost spiritual feeling you get in nature. And I therefore always thank nature for being there and having the experiences.
Thank you for your wonderful videos, I have been following for a long time from my private user and I love when there is a new video 🙏
This is beautiful to hear! I'm sure you'll enjoy sharing your insight and journey on your channel. Thank you also for the kind words. They are very much appreciated 😊
Inspirational. Not sure I understand what you mean by 'connect" though.
Thank you Jennifer. Connection to nature. Feeling connected to it. Photography, to me, is a tool that helps me build a deeper connection and appreciation to nature. Hope this helps 😊
I enjoyed the video as usual Kim.
The frog was worth photographing and you got some nice image's.
It's a shame that you didn't get the shot of the fungi that you wanted, but the image's were ok.
Look forward to the next one.
Thank you Tim! He was wonderful to see and photograph
I agree that images of certain things - say, some fungi in poor lighting - aren't necessarily print worthy, but, they do get me to appreciate them at a different level. As a biologist, I want to see all living things as closely as possible, examine their forms and take advantage of their natural habitat to better discern their niche. That's part of the real joy of photography for me.
Do very true John. Thank you for sharing your thoughts
Carry a flashlight of some sort to capture the shadowed cuteness of slugs. And a remote trigger. Or
maybe get one of those three-headed lights on twisty thingies which act as positionable lights. For closeups and macro.
Love your pleasant videos.
Thanks for the suggestion Mike. 😊
Biologist here. Your frog looks more like Common toad, Bufo bufo, a young one. By the way you don't need a click bait title to get people to watch your videos.🙂
Thank you for the ID. I did wonder if it was potentially a toad. I always get them mixed up 😊
Will you give the frog, space on your wall.
With all the creatures you capture, there must be a story in the making.
I'm sensing a story too Roy!
I like finding slugs but they are extremely rare where I live. It's been years since I've seen one. They are fascinating to watch.
Wow! They are fascinating creatures. Hope you see another one soon 🤞
I've found mushrooms to be a tough subject to get really good images.
Yes! I second that. A great challenge
Your comment about not wanting to print some of these photos or put them on a wall triggered my memory and now I need to research how to go about this. There is a way to have your photos from a photo library on the tv screen. I don’t know if it is only an Apple thing, but it can be done. I was thinking what a cool way to view those interesting photos as a slide show. My phone has hundreds of nature photos and I love when they pop up as I enjoy them all over again. Thank you again for sharing your connections with the tiny parts of nature.
What a lovely idea Michelle! I do not own a TV but I can certainly see how this would be a lovely way to display images. I remember seeing a small screen a few years ago specifically for photos to be played on a loop as a slideshow. It's a great idea! 😊
You mentioned bringing your mist filter. Can you share more of when and why you choose to use it please and thanks.
Certainly Valerie. I've yet to use mine but they essentially make the light more diffused, creating softer and more dreamlike images. Many videographers use them to create more magical and cinematic videos too. I'm planning on using mine over the autumn so will make a note of this and plan to mention it in an upcoming video 😊
Fantastic video~ The frog photos are real winners!
Thank you Karen! Glad you enjoyed it
The photograph of the frog is really beautiful. Now you have made me feel guilty for eating them, their legs really .
Thank you 😊
Oooh those frog images! Absolutely worth the outing.
Thanks Alex!
🐸🍄
You need to get yourself a gorillapod for your fungi
Thanks for the suggestion Hamish
Beautiful woodland 😊
Certainly is!
Photography of mushrooms always need some 'gardening'.😅
😂😂
I call it landscaping and carry tweezers and a tiny paint brush in my bag for that purpose.
Good morning Kim.. great video and gotta love the frog 🙂
Thank you Brian! He was wonderful to connect with
@@kimgrantphotography have a great holiday 🙂
Aww that was beautiful Kim. The frog was amazing. The fungi was lovely too. Very hardcore in a wet still forest with midges! ❤
Great to hear you enjoyed it May! It was a fun day out.
I got caught in a hail shower once when I ventured into a wet woodland, it was utterly magical. Thanks for this vid, I needed that today! X
Wow! Sounds amazing Pamela and good to hear from you! We should have a catch-up soon 😊 x
@@kimgrantphotography sounds good 😊👌🏻
Kim this was awesome, the frog captures are amazing . You have such a peaceful voice that i find myself right there with you. Thank you for sharing the woodland journey . Cheers and have a wonderful week .
Thank you for this very kind and lovely comment. So very nice to hear 😊
Brilliant Kim! What an absolute joy to watch your outing in the rain. Beautiful, just beautiful!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
love that little toad/frog
such glorious story to share on this beautiful Sunday morning
Thank you David
