@Poop Jones Agree 100%, people are fooled by the negative MN media who hated Moss because he didn't do interviews. You don't just walk out of bed and dominate professional athletes that badly without putting in the work training all offseason. Cunningham was bought off and threw the game against the Falcons that year. The NFL didn't want their poster boy Elway to face the Vikings in his last game & LOSE.
This game scarred me as a Packers fan. Packers had just been to back-to-back Super Bowls. This was the last year for Mike Holmgren and Reggie White in Green Bay. And the Packers drafted cornerbacks in the first three rounds of the 1999 draft. This game was the first moment the magic felt like it was dying.
Al Michael said it perfectly and early in the Broadcast from 1995 until this game the Packers went 25-0 at Lambeu during that time also Brett Favre and the Packers were undefeated in the playoffs the minute Minnesota came to Lambeu the magic of Lambeu die in my opinion during the Favre era loosing to Vick and the Falcons in 2002, loosing to the Vikings at home in 2004 and loosing to the Giants in the NFC Championship in 2007 yes things change but the Lambeu PlayOff streak did last almost 30 years until 2002
Packers fan here as well. This game, to me, signified a huge change of things to come. I remember hearing right after this game that the Packers defense set a team record for most yards allowed in one game in team history.
The defense blew that game! If he makes the field goal it puts up 10. He missed. Atlanta went down the field and tied the game. And the rest is history
As I recall, the Packers lost a lot of free agents that year [or possibly the year before] after a tough Super Bowl loss to Elway's Broncos. The Vikings had a ridiculous record that year, were favored to win the NFC, but lost on a flukey missed field goal in the conference championship. They were snake-bitten those years, I'm no Minnesota fan but ya gotta feel for 'em.
Was there live at 13 yrs old. Had never seen the Packers lose at Lambeau in person before that. Got sent under the stadium in a rain delay. I should have known then that that was a bad omen. Will never forget watching the Vikings destroy the Pack on that Monday Night and having to face the cold reality that we were not going to win every home game I went to for the rest of my life lol.
Simultaneous possession my ass Dierdorf! Randy cleanly catches the ball and then the guy grabs his elbow and tries to act like he has the ball for a second.
As a Packer fan, I am proud to say. The Packers in 2021 FINALLY have a defense that could hold prime Moss to under 250 yards and 4 touchdowns in a single game. Guaranteed baby!
Randall’s deep ball was so crazy. He had a perfect build to deliver it, but a flick of the wrist would put that ball in the air with such accuracy and distance that never quit….it just kept going and going…you better have your jets on full blast all day to meet it. Randy knew what was up.
lol, no, he just got old and couldn't run like he could with the eagles. He literally just snaps the ball and throws a rainbow at moss, hopping he'll out jump the defenders.
I remember this game like it was yesterday. The last Vikings game before I moved away for college. I told my dad prior to the game that if the Vikings beat the Packers, they might go undefeated. They came pretty darn close.
You couldn’t cover Randy Moss on a jump ball. It wasn’t about could he catch, the question was, “How do you stop him from doing it”? Boy gave defenders hell for years!
Yeah I remember very well with a crazy Monday night game that's when Randy Moss made a name for himself I don't care for either team but I respect both
I remember that game. The Strib's headline the next day: "GRILLED CHEESE." Greatest team never to win a Super Bowl. 15-1, but the usual Vikings' postseason choke cost 'em. "Gary Anderson Wide Left" is up there with "ground ball through Bill Buckner's legs" as a postseason failure.
Classic introduction I miss that !!! And also it's crazy Tom Clancy attempted to buy the team I love so much I never knew that lol anybody know more about that ?
Yes, some forget about those bombs he launched in Philly to Harold Carmichael and Mine Quick, when RC was earning an MVP while playing behind the worst OL in the league. It's too bad he wasn't matched up with a headcoach that could fine tune his short game, make him less reliant on running. It would have been nice to see Moss play with a great deep baller that was in his prime like Elway, Moon, or the arrogant QB that now plays for GB.
This was the game where the vikings put the league on notice that they were the team to beat this team was a offensive machine watching them dominate the way they were was jaw dropping
Was in a bar in Madison, Wis (Angelic Brewing Co., long gone) watching this. A lot of Minneapolis kids amongst the staff and patrons, so maybe 50/50 representation. Every time Brett threw a pic, some drunk girl would shout "Nice pass, Favre!" Some other Vikings fans and I were buying shots for one another--"purple meanies" or Goldschlager--at every Minn.TD, but we had to quit at halftime. I felt nervous about walking back to my car wearing the sweatshirt I was wearing, but I think the Packers fans were just too stunned to even be pissed.

@@doshin7777 So were Jerry Rice and John Taylor. Lots of great receiving cores. But... this was insane, Carter and Moss was impossible to stop. Rams had a better offense, more weapons.
Man a 80 yard td that got called back too!
And about aa 60 yard that was just overthrown.
I still have my Burger King 3 deep poster framed Reed Carter Moss .
2:10 ... that throw to Carter.. and the catch.. holy moly, I think they know me!
You almost forget how great a player Moss was
“The author Tom Clancy tried to buy the team...” wait WHAT?
No joke!
yep, he tried to put together a package and it was all smoke and mirrors. Instead the sleazy Texan Red McCombs bought them, and sold the team when he couldn't get a new stadium built, which the current owner wheedled out of the city of Minneapolis. It's nicer than the Metrodome but it's an ugly hulking thing looming over the city.
@@timward276 The Metrodome was iconic
If Clancy had purchased them and they went to the Super Bowl in 1998, they would have faced the Denver Broncos. These were the same two teams that faced off in Clancy"s Sum of all Fears, where terrorists deployed a nuclear device.
@@timward276 adding more to this...when McCombs couldn't get his stadium, he trade Randy Moss a day before his roster bonus was paid to not eat into his profits when he sold the team a few months later
moss was a beast in preseason, that was his coming out party
Moss is the most gifted player I have ever seen..... He could have the records IMO but he never had the work ethic of Jerry Rice nor the discipline, it just came so easy to him and he was the perfect wideout with all elements combined.
@Poop Jones Agree 100%, people are fooled by the negative MN media who hated Moss because he didn't do interviews. You don't just walk out of bed and dominate professional athletes that badly without putting in the work training all offseason. He trained harder than others from what I've seen so work ethic was there...
This team was the Vikings best chance to get back to the Super Bowl. So sad that they couldn't pull it off. The best team to never win a Super Bowl.
Cunningham was bought off and threw the game against the Falcons that year. The NFL didn't want their poster boy Elway to face the Vikings in his last game & LOSE.
Randy Moss is Usain Bolt with NFL receiving skills, NBA jumping skills, and that fine southern twang.
Moss wishes he had anywhere remotely close Bolt's speed.
NFL was so fun to watch back then… Deep passes and Big hits.. thank God was able to watch it live
I’ve been a Vikings fan since Super Bowl 11.Hands down, there hasn’t been anyone like Randy Moss.A cut from a different cloth.
It was special to watch Moss.
Moss was amazing
Just simply amazing ☺️.
Randy Moss is the greatest Wide Receiver of ALL-TIME!!!
and robert smith. the 98 vikes were loaded and gary anderson finally ran out of bullets
I like how everyone just knows it when you're seeing greatness. It was obvious with Moss soooo early, you just knew you were watching something great.
This team had it all. I remember how dope R.Smith was too.
Why was he a dope?
@@TL2354 are you kidding? Pro Bowl, 1200 yards on 249 carries (4.8) . He was super smooth and made the draw look easy.
Randell Cunningham played like a god.
What about Randall Cunningham?
R.I.P. Orlando Thomas
Gb hadn't lost a game at home for like 3yrs. I lost a shit load betting on this game.
How much did you lose?
Best rookie ever has arrived.
@@electriccowboy4747 it was a joke..
R.I.P Denny Green! To a great coach! He loved this team 🏉 ❤❤❤❤!
Can never forget this season. The whole world wanted to see Denver vs Minnesota in the SuperBowl. And we all got ATL vs Broncos. Smfh..
Who saw the look of dejection at 8:00 among the DB's for the Packers after Moss caught his last touchdown.
ME!!!!!!!!
@@elvicare35 TOTAL DEJECTION!!!!!!
Randall’s deep ball was so crazy. He had a perfect build to deliver it, but a flick of the wrist would put that ball in the air with such accuracy and distance that never quit….it just kept going and going…you better have your jets on full blast all day to meet it. Randy knew what was up.
Cunningham was an awesome player!!! Changed his game on the Vikings. Became unselfish with Moss ,Carter and Reed as his receivers... ...
lol, no, he just got old and couldn't run like he could with the eagles. He literally just snaps the ball and throws a rainbow at moss, hopping he'll out jump the defenders.
Dazzling Footwork Diligence by these explosive Vikings ,Team Outstanding sharing the Magic!
Before the 99 Rams it was the 98 Vikings just a shame Minnesota didn't win it all.
I loved Monday nites music of Hank Jr and watching randy moss it was a great time
Damn that first play from the Vikings though
I remember this game like it was yesterday. The last Vikings game before I moved away for college. I told my dad prior to the game that if the Vikings beat the Packers, they might go undefeated. They came pretty darn close.
They only lost to Tampa. 15-1. They should of won it that year.
That intro man had pizza nachos pop and butt load candy ahhhhhh good times
He hasn't missed a field Goal since Sept. of 19xx... right then I knew we were going to lose. Thank you John Madden
You couldn’t cover Randy Moss on a jump ball. It wasn’t about could he catch, the question was, “How do you stop him from doing it”?
Boy gave defenders hell for years!
And yea your Cowboys should of drafted Randy Moss boy ya could of won aless 3 or 4 more Super Bowls 😏.
That thumbnail....good choice. Still sad about #77 RIP
I remember this game from October 1998. The Vikings was raw in a gud way that year. Should've been in the Super Bowl that year.
Those cheesy 90s special effects in the way beginning had me rolling! Haha
Yeah I remember very well with a crazy Monday night game that's when Randy Moss made a name for himself I don't care for either team but I respect both
And Moss was still listed as the #3 WR until mid season. Stacked team!
To this day I still find joy in Farve throwing interceptions.
Except for one at new Orleans
That was my favorite year as a lifelong Vikes fan..
I remember that game. The Strib's headline the next day: "GRILLED CHEESE."
Greatest team never to win a Super Bowl. 15-1, but the usual Vikings' postseason choke cost 'em. "Gary Anderson Wide Left" is up there with "ground ball through Bill Buckner's legs" as a postseason failure.
He didn't choke that game. We were up 7 if he hits it we are up 10. The defense lost that game
@@paulrolf9011 right, but if he hits that FG it ices the game.
Classic introduction I miss that !!! And also it's crazy Tom Clancy attempted to buy the team I love so much I never knew that lol anybody know more about that ?
Good the the Wilf's came along. They got deep pockets
Clancy would have bought the team but was in the process of divorcing his wife which cost him a fortune
Yes I do and there were even rumors he would move the team to Las Vegas which was kinda OK with me since I live here.
Man Randall had a fucking cannon arm!
He was the game when he arrived
This game was like Madden Football. Set to high school.
