Most people would know that that bag of fibres was an unusual thing to pack in your luggage. If you have something unusual, you should expect to be quizzed on it. Also, although you might know the way you have done something is completely innocent (like buying a last minute ticket as shown here) but if customs are questioning you about it then you should assume that they've seen the same thing from people who were not innocent in the past and that's why they are asking about it. Being awkward just makes you look bad and makes the process last longer than it needs to.
I was in NYC last year I flew standby with a Crew and havent had booked a flight back Was a handfull to explain it to the Lady in the booth why i havent bought a return ticket 😂
I have to disagree. The unusual bag of fibres in his luggage, friends who didn't seem to exist and last minute ticket buying. Mariano seemed anything but legit.
It's completely normal for people to book last minute tickets for a world cup since you don't really know to what stage the team you support will get to. Also, his friend wasn't in the country, they never said he didn't exist.
@@ivaneames4354i always have fiber with me when travel because for some reason when i travel i might have difficulties with a stomach. buying tickets the day before or the same day as the flight is something i do frequently as well. and i never bother looking for a hotel or plan an itinerary, i always prefer my friends to do it
Poor Mariano... the customs officer didn't leave her island very often... I remember buying a ticket two hours before taking the plane to the USA... It was the cheapest ticket I have paid. I left for Bangkok on a whim, without luggage and without having booked a hotel room... As part of my work, I also had to buy tickets like you buy a train or bus ticket and without knowing where i am going to sleep until that very evening. I've never had the slightest problem. I think Mariano met some obtuse customs officer and will never come back to New Zealand...and I would understand that. In Ankorage, the customs officer absolutely wanted to find chocolate in our luggage (we came from Austria) and she searched everything for at least 1/2 hour... It was almost our fault if she didn't find anything because coming from Vienna, I should have "had chocolate".
Last part of the video. I feel sorry for Mariano not to be able to verify the trip bc his friends hadn't arrived yet. When he saw them, I also felt like crying, "better late than never". ^^
Although it was legal procedure of the search, the female officer shouldn't ask Mariano questions in shortage of respect. And the Customs is supposed to give an apology to Mariano.
So Mariano was legit, Customs didn’t bother to check for Sergio on list of passengers of possible flights. Poor service. Customs should at least apologize for the inconvenience. Can’t one buy a last minute ticket? It’s unusual but how unusual? Seems too vague to me.
Maybe if the Customs agents explain with a smile and a light-hearted demeanor that they're not accusing the person themself, just describing what has been done by others in similar circumstances (buying the ticket the day before flying, being uncertain of what hotel and places they're going, having friends who've arranged everything) which forces the Customs people to check in those kind of situations. I think being a hardass or just dour-faced when they're questioning travellers hurts Customs more than it helps.
So, on top of dealing with liars, heartbreaking cases, aggressive people, disrespectful people, bio-hazards, smugglers, and people traffickers all day - plus being responsible for protecting a nation's bio security and their public from an influx of illegal substances - you ALSO want them to have a permasmile, like some sort of Stepford Wife? No chance. They're human. And they are paid nowhere near enough to spend all day smiling at people like some sort of odd Cheshire cat. People in the US might have to be OTT "fake nice" to everyone (regardless of how badly they are treated) in order to keep their jobs, but the rest of the world is realistic. Expecting people in difficult jobs, often dealing with the dregs of society, to be unrealistically sweet in the face of rudeness and aggression is ridiculous. Besides, in my experience, they match energy. If you're nice to them, they're nice to you. But if you yell and scream at them, or you're rude and arrogant, then they'll just stick to doing their job, minus the niceties. It's their job to question you, and the reasons are fairly common sense-based (which he would have known if he'd shut up and listened, instead of talking over the officers). If you have nothing to hide, just be nice and get it over with. The more you kick off, the longer it will take, because you will make yourself look guilty of something.
Makes sense when you think about it. 3700$ for the urgent airline (return) ticket booked only one day in advance. The destinations were at least Buenos Aires - Auckland - Buenos Aires but very likely more. (! He mentioned Chile.)
Yeah going somewhere customs does not expect or travelling for 16 hrs just for a weekend you get searched constantly. I never got searched for drugs though, I have a beard so they check me for bombs.
Welcome to the German Democratic Republic! Whenever my company send me to the US I knew five, seven days ahead. This meant getting a “turbo” passport (I don’t need one in the EU), then booking the flight, hotel. Immigration into the US (California, Philadelphia ) was always perfect; and don’t tell me one can fool US immigration!
So last show...canadian couple and a british couple each got fined 400 for inadvertantly having one piece of fruit in their baggage...this guy gets off with a warning.....hmmmm....racist
poor mariano, like a real life comedy. his friend doesn't show up until it's too late.
I almost cried for him! All that inconvenience for nothing
Not only will Mariano never come back, neither will all of the people he knows nor their families and friends.
Who cares.
@@MaryPoppins-tu1ms😂
Perhaps in time and on reflection he will be able to understand the routine he went through.
What difference will that make to our beautiful country

- do you have anything on your body?
- like what, hair?
😂
8:36 his voice is sooo satisfying he could be a great voice of a documentary
The goat lady has a great smile. Also poor argentinian bloke got stiffed
Mariano was on the verge of a nervous breakdown in the end, i tell ya...😩
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you mariano, i really enjoyed watching you, 11:57 very funny lolz
Why is it suspicious to buy a ticket at short notice? I have done it many times. Aren't you allowed to go somewhere just because you decided suddenly?
My point exactly. I do it all the time.
I was in NYC last year
I flew standby with a Crew and havent had booked a flight back
Was a handfull to explain it to the Lady in the booth why i havent bought a return ticket 😂
Customs controle has suspicions, but unfortunately not the suspicions of a crime.
I understand where the customs agent was coming from, but Mariano seemed 100% legit.
Hindsight is a wonderful gift
I have to disagree.

The father worked for customs at Caribbean? Wow, unbelievable.
Why unbelievable?

15:09 What a great seize, imagine if this slipped passed Customs 🤯
Mariano reminds me toni Montana in scar face i would have searched him also 😂
Mariano reminded me so much of "Nick" from Cheers. 😂
A* reference haha 😂
He reminded me of Tony Montana 🤣
Great work .IF ,yes IF, people were not so crazy as to use drugs the makers and smugglers would be out of work .The real criminals are the users

2:07 The most believeable face expression ever.
I 💜 This Show!
Ulrich is too cute 😍
The face when he was asked "are you sure"?
This channel is addictive. Love it! New subscriber here 😊
"Experience", "no idea" etc etc is of no concern. ALL passengers like this should have a fine and some also brought to court!!

OMG! Wearing a respirator without the filter. NZ's Ppe training is better not to have it.
That’s what I was thinking! No wonder he could smell it!

Try having to put up with people like him day after day. It would try the patience of a saint.

$3,700 last minute fare...cannot find contacts...nomal reaction. Safety first!!

Scary to see New Zealand transforming to USA.
my friends buy hotel all the time, i do not even ask them where it is, just go where they tell me.
that s totally nornal
How 'bout food that was bought at the duty free? 🙄
Poor mariano. He got treated badly if you ask me
literally i buy plane tickets in the last minute all the time, nothing wrong with that
If all is online, he should have asked his friend to forward the tickets and hotel reservation
3700$ for flight is alot 😭
Can anyone tell me what the breed of the l sniffing dog is? Is it beagle?
Beagle for sure.
9:00
I believe the family did that all the time.
After seeing so many customs and airport security videos, I wanna know how drugs still end up in all these countries??
Uhhh… if your respirator is fitted properly, you shouldn’t be able to smell anything.
I think some of these people brining in some foods disgusting and should not get away with it
