Incredible craftmanship, very beautiful and elegant. And one thing I really like is that there are people with enough resources and wisdom to invest in this kind of home beauty and functionality. Also, that there are craftsmen available with the high-end skills capable of making it into a reality. Skills it took them years of hard work and dedication to acquire. It makes me happy to think they're making a good living. I'm sure a lot more than what so many college grads are today with their useless degrees, especially considering the mountains of debt that go along with it. THIS is the kind of trade work to master. So satisfying to be a part of it, I'm sure.

That is straight up beautiful across the board. A beautiful design, beautiful material choices, and beautiful work with a very unique outcome. Five years on and it still looks brand new. Definitely something to be proud of, Ben.
The cabinets and reveals with the walls looks amazing without needing caulking, as do the mitered cabinets. I've never seen that done before on cabinet doors. . The exposed-looking edges of the cabinets look very cohesive in this environment. The only question I have, is what happens if they ever decide to paint the walls down the road? Would you have to pry the cabinets away from the walls, or how would you paint them without marring or painting onto the exposed grain edges?

No blue tape as part of the painting? You didn't mention any.
I usually use tape around trim if it has had enough time to cure first. I get cleaner lines faster. I can paint without it but it helps.
So, with all the knowledge you've accumulated in the last 5 years, what would you change in the design or construction of this kitchen?
Stunning kitchen and meticulous craftsmanship by all involved - even the Vancouver "Drywaller." :) That kitchen is timeless and the attention to detail is absolutely incredible. It takes a skill level that not everyone possesses to make it all come together. Plans are one thing, but without perfect execution the architect's vision just won't happen.

I don't think we have ever doubted your other talents! It is a beautiful kitchen. Just curious: I wonder if the architect/designer considered mitering the exposed plywood. PS scope creep ten years ago led me to my best client/friend and years of referrals!
I can't remember what some of the considerations were anymore.

It's difficult to find contractors who are willing to pay as much attention to detail as you. Most are focused on time and not on quality.

Oh my goodness, Ben. What you showed here left me speechless for more than half a day. The choice of plywood with the edge exposed - really the finest grade, the leathery surface finish, the mitered angles between doors and frames - so much precision involved, the choice of door hinges (and endless options as I well know), and then the glossy finish. I have touched on many of those issues in my work before, but kitchen cabinetry work is really unique and exemplary. Being from Germany, I grew up with the metric system and adopted to imperial measurements later on.

Heinous. Looks like a good idea on paper, but factory built cabinets with commercial coatings would have worn a lot better. Not sure how you can realistically freshen those beat up cabinets.

Nice to see your other works. When I remodeled my bathroom I got rid of the oval shaped tub that no one ever sat in. It was horrible. Cramped for an adult. Why they installed that I have no idea. I cut it up with a saw and threw it out the window. I installed a dark bamboo floor in its place, and used finished oak plywood for the walls were the tub was. No trim. I liked the look of the half inch plywood stained dark. Didn’t need any finish. Built a bar I call it out of the same finished oak plywood stained to hold a mini fridge and a place to put towels. And an oak window sill with recessed lights with colored bottles on top. Simple design.
Very nice, but that crooked backsplash tile by the cooktop, with the electrical outlet, would drive me nuts!!!!

That plywood looks deluxe Ben!! Up in Houston BC here we get China mfg Baltic birch that has so much of the laminations doubled up it looks terrible with raw edges. Obviously it's not high grade birch or whatever that luxury stuff the cabinets are made of. Thank you for sharing man. Your awesome dude. Very unconventional cupboards, very specific to ones taste.

Hopefully I have this right - Wondering if you would be interested in making a video where you’ve had to carve out a recess in the drywall to effectively make it a tapered joint over a butt joint (and whether this is a good idea). I have an area where a vertical butt joint will be about 500mm away from a shower cubicle (renovation at my house) so I don’t know if have the room to coat it wide enough so would be interested in how you can carve out a recess for the tape (if I have heard you right!) loves the vids on this Chanel as well your skateboarding one

Y’know, exposing the structure of the cabinets really looks good. I’ve used edge grain of Baltic birch as a feature, but not as well as this.
I’m interested in the “ furniture lino” though. Is there a name for that laminate that I might be familiar with?
That’s all I remember. It was a few mm thick and very pliable.
I’m a cabinet maker based in Scotland and we often use this material for covering desktops. The brand we use is called Forbo. Not sure if that’s an international brand or just in the UK.
This is totally subjective, but the only thing I think would’ve looked better on the cabinets, it to have the visible plywood edges mitered to make the corners look cleaner.
Other than that I love it. The mitered doors are awesome. Makes it look so much cleaner.
Oh, and I’m going to miss your drywall videos if you stop! That's how I found your channel. 2nd channel maybe?

My only complaint, (as a painting contractor) it kills me to look at the window trim and see brush lines. On high end houses we spend days (sometimes weeks) sanding every bit of trim. To see it brushed is sacrilege for me.

@vancouvercarpenter no don't mean it to be mean. If you looked at my drywall repairs, I'm positive your drywall work is better quality than mine. Guess that's what we get for decades in a specific trade.

Nice Job good skills and nicely chosen decor. you can tell the owner has taste. also have a look at airless spraying i have changed over from brush and roller i would never go back. better finish tighter cleaner lines better coverage. and those hard to reach parts are not a problem just mask it up and press the trigger.
Some day. I’ve still never used a sprayer.
@@vancouvercarpenter grayco ultramax just fantastic for trim and doors a wagner 350 pro for walls and ceilings good for large DIY and use the 3m masking gun and blue 3m tape. you wont look back.
Good work, but its a pretty ugly kitchen. Thats the fault of the customer who chose this.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I really like this kitchen but you are entitled to your opinion.
