I chose Lutron and have been very happy with it. Zero problems. It did take a minute to get used to the dimmers. Lutron requires the hub to make the switches smart but will work without the hub. I have a somewhat large house and don't have any dead spots requiring a repeater. Some lights work better with the dimmers than others but it is my understanding that Lutron has fewer compatibility issues than others and haven't found lights that the Lutron dimmer doesn't work with. The light switch and fan switch DO require a neutral while the dimmer switch doesn't. If you have shallow older gang boxes, Lutron might present a problem; my house was built in 1999 and that hasn't been an issue for me. The pico remotes used for multi-way switches frees up room in the gang box. Something not a lot of people note in these videos is that getting them aligned correctly is more difficult than a normal light switch and it all depends on the finish around the gang box ... had to do some work to get them all lined up consistently using spacers and in some cases extension boxes if the gang box was crooked or somewhat inset from the dry wall. Not nearly as noticeable with an old school light switch. Also had to sand off old paint drops or poorly cut drywall in a few cases ... why people get sloppy around the switches and outlets and sometimes don't remove unscrew the outlets/switches and get them away from the wall ... or even the faceplates at a minimum .... before painting, I'll never know.
John, thanks for the informative comment for other viewers and sharing your experience. Lutron Caseta: amzn.to/347Pazc is a great system that I have also found to be very reliable and versitile. It offerers what I believe to be the simplest installation of any smart switch currently on the market. Thanks for sharing your tips on installation.
Many home wifi access points have a limit of 26 or 32 devices at the same time. So if the leviton stays connected at all times that would be a problem for doing a whole house and less than half what you can use for the lutron. I do prefer the hub since it keeps the signal separate and more reliable. I have both hub and hubless smart devices. And the hubless are easy and quick I have to say that adding more devices to the hub systems are quicker and just seem to work better. Lutron is the quickest and most reliable I have tried. I agree I wish they have more options for switches and wish they had a toggle that you didn't know was a smart switch. But I don't think it is ugly and would take functionality over aesthetics all day long when it comes to products like this. Ok, within limits. Can't be ugly. Haha
If you’re setting up 3-way with Leviton WiFi switch can the remote switch be a simple non-smart switch or do all the switches in a 3-way need to be smart? New build and looking for best smart 3-way dimmers ?
Incorrect information, Lutron switch don’t require a hub you can control the switch with a pico remote , the hub is required just to control the switch by phone . So the information here is incorrect
I know there is mixed opinions, but for me personally I have found having a hub is much more reliable, I have no connection issues or any other issues. I have never had a wifi product that wasn't a problem. They also take bandwith that doesn't need to be taken.
Jack, thanks for the info. The Lutron Hub is the most reliable hub out there and backed by a good company, I agree with you on that. What wifi product did you have issues with?
@@OneHourSmartHome I've had issues with any Lifx product I bought, I bought z strips, and returned them all. Then I went to hue and never had an issue. Variety of off-brand smart plugs, generic zwave or zigbee work best for me with a ST hub, and never had any issues since.
This is a great video. HUGE KUDOS to verbally spelling out “ALEXA” instead of saying it out loud and setting off people assistants. This is extremely caring and detail oriented of you.
Very clear and informative ! Thank you for sharing ! One question though... am I able to control my lights from my phone when I am not at home and within my wifi network ?
All of these people saying they prefer Lutron.. are you crazy? The switch layout is one of the most infuriatingly terrible designs I have ever encountered. The switches feel extremely cheap, I literally can't toggle the light without staring directly at the switch to make sure I hit the correct area. The Leviton switches are 100% superior, in both build and functionality.
I don't understand why it is a trend to HAVE TO GIVE an UNKNOWN 3rd party (the manufacturer) access to your home? ie. There is NO real need, or benefit, for a customer to signup/signin to use the app! That should be an option at best! I would have purchased 6 switches if this was not the case! That especially goes for any camera and lock security systems or IoT!
And I want to replace them with a smart switch one of the switches operates the ceiling fan and one operates light which smart light switches would you recommend thanks I very good WiFi and I have neutral wires
Good video. Thank you. I like the Lutron switches better personally, however, I’ve come across SOME info on the Leviton switches and I didn’t know they’re WiFi switches. I thought that they had some sort of bridge as well, but broadcasts were done over PowerLine as opposed to Lutron’s ClearConnect RF communication?
Stopped watching at "lutron requires a hub" :) leviton it is then... or maybe TPLink Kasa....? provided that you have neutral of course.... Good video thank you.
Caseta needs the hub if you have integrated AV like Crestron, Control4, Sonos, Fans, Thermostats, Alarms, Shades, etc. Don't think the Leviton can do that. LUTRON does more than just lights. Geofencing and Away mode too.
Remember that with WiFi switches that don’t require a hub, your adding an awful lot of new devices to your probably already congested WiFi network. With the Lutron, your not adding anything since it’s hardwired to your router. Just something to keep in mind especially if your adding a lot of switches.
I thought about going with Caseta, since it seems to be the most popular smart switch on the market, but that button interface is so weird, clunky, and to be honest, ugly. Plus that you must buy their hub is super annoying.
Yeah, I wish you didn't have to use the hub. If you don't have a Neutral wire it's one of the best options. But if you do have a neutral there are a ton of options to choose from and they are pretty much all reliable and you can pick one you like the features of and the looks of.

Ha! Thank you for not actually saying Alexa. Some of these videos make my house go crazy.
But he sounds like a stupid nerd saying it A L E X A.
Like at 1:13 he doesn't sound like a geek.
Great video. You seem to know more than most about home systems and the nuts and bolts. Just curious, what your background is?

@One Hour Smart Home how can iu add the leviton wifi dimmer switches to home assistant ?

Sir does Leviton wifi dimmers works with commercial electric recessed lighting?

If you want smart control (phone or Alexa control) it requires a hub. But it you can control it locally with just a pico remote: amzn.to/2XCJR7s

Correct
Well I’m trying to replace my three wire lutron on to the old four fire Leviton but what wires go to what ?

Yes, you can control smart devices from anywhere in the world.
Can I use a smart switch with wifi 4" rgb recessed lights?
Does Leviton have a version of the pico remote?
No they don't. They have 3 way compatible switches buy no pico remote.
great video!

Does leviton support? 220V supply
No, but this smart light switch: amzn.to/3gsFep4 does support 220V and it doesn't need a neutral wire. What country do you live in?

You are correct Leviton and TP link will both work without a hub. I like the simple design of the Levtion switches but both are good switches.
