- Today I show off my guitars! Starting with the 1982 Aria Pro II Cardinal Series. I love this guitar. Do you have one? Thinking about getting one? Let me know in the comments!
The '81 Aria Pro II Cardinal Series CS-350 was the 1st guitar that I ever owned. I still have it today and it never fails to impress!
I bought it in '84, and a Crate amp a year later. This great duo allowed me to play for 17 years in several bands, a pleasure that still exists.
Always learn a lot from your playing- love to get that Aria Pro 11- Thank you
Have the same one! Love it, and a great guitar if youa re learning and on a budget. Thanks for this.
Had one in 1984, but I don't remember it being a Cardinal Series. Split pick-ups, but it had a maple neck, transparent blue, real solid guitar. Traded it for a Kawasaki 90 dirt bike my drug supplier owned.
You got a nice set-up rig. I'm a big fan of Mesa-Boogie amps. I had all kinds of equipment in the 80's you'd prolly love to add to your collection; amps, guitars, analog effect pedals, drums.
You cracked me up with the Cletus comment, reminded of some crazy guys I used to work with.
I definitely heard the Dead influence in your song. Play on brother!
I just found out about these guitars and your review is gonna make me buy one. Cheers on that mesa too. Ive never seen one like that but that is one sexy combo amp. The name blue angel fits your guitar just as well as the amp. Great video
My first electric guitar bought when I was 16, and the only one! Thx for the vidéo 👍
I bought that same exact color in 1982 and traded it to Sam ash in South Florida in 1994. It looks exactly like mine did minus the mods. I loved it and really regret trading it. Its very hard to find one. Enjoy!
Now I want one. Love blue guitars. Arias are unique.
Yeah, you can’t beat that beautiful blue that really accentuates the wood grain. Hands down, my favorite guitar.
I have the CS-250 in Cardinal Red. Love it! Killer tones. I don't think I'll ever sell it. I'd like to find another
CS series especially the 400.
I like the in-between sound the best 😎
My very fisrt guitar in 1982 was this guitar excalety bought new . Dam i wish i still had it. Seeing it again was cool.
Nice video mate I have the same guitar and love it. But just for information one switch is to split both pickups in single coil and the second switch is to dephase them. Works only in postion 2 tho.
Have the CS-250 and almost impressed b/c the tuners don't stay in tune for long but still working on the intonations which might fix that
Amazing Guitar, So Groovy and almost gott everything. Have one exaktly blue one. Im also loving Vantage VS guitars from the same Fantastic Matsumoko industries in Japan from the mid 70's to late 80's. I have alot of them and adore them. U ever tried Vantage guitars btw? Thanks for sharing ur great tones 🙂
I have 90s aria pro II its a red burst LPspl bought it new in 94ish might be Korean made but it's quality ish. I have the seymour duncan jazz in the neck and jb in the bridge. It's sweet, you should come jam some time
i got the cs 350 best of the bunch
Hello. Very nice video. Which one of these Cardinals is best, by color, model, year. Interested in your opinion. And would you by some other guitar instead of this one?
That's some sweet playing Davvy! I'm about to check one out tomorrow. Quick question:. Do you have any problems with the d, and the g strings intonation? I ask because the way the head is designed (Les Paul style), those specific strings go in at an angle instead of straight down the nut.
Thanks for the kind words! Right after I bought the guitar, I had the guitar setup and frets leveled. I’ve never had an issue.
@@TobyDavvy Right on dude thanks for the response!
Man this is the best guitar I own best sound best neck feeling all the turbo switches I love them all they're like girls
I’m looking to get a cos-250 but the one that’s available only has 2 switches? Any thoughts?
@@philosophy4242 buy it
But what switch is lacking?
@@philosophy4242 if you have two switches that's the most I've seen on those guitars some only have one switch
@@richthetrashpicker-upper5244 the guitar in the video has 3 switches. The only ones I've seen on UA-cam have 3 switches
I’m looking at one car-250 but it only has 2 switches? What do you think
Hi Davvy, I just bought a Cardinal series as a project, Is it worthwile to restore it? Do you have any knowlegde about the value or somebody who wants to buy it, once it is Mint?
I'd forgotten ALL about Aria Pro II guitars for like 30+ years(although I'm a drummer, so it's excusable I guess). I knew people who played them in the 80s when I was a teenager.
❓ So, after 4 more years of playing, have you finally reached full musical enlightenment, and put together a KISS tribute band? Once you find yourself flawlessly playing "I Love It Loud", "Shock Me", or the acoustic, MTV Unplugged version of "Goin' Blind", you know you've taken music as FAR as it can possibly go! 😁
Just kidding(although the musicianship on that 1995 MTV Unplugged version of Goin' Blind is actually surprisingly impressive)! Gene is a better bassist than I would've assumed, and the song really grows on you the more you listen to it.

This guitar is worth way more than you paid for it. Any MIJ Aria Pro is a really nice guitar. This is a bolt-on guitar, right? Some Cardinals are bolt-on and some are set-in. From what I hear (snappiness and attack) it should be a bolt-on.
Never saw a set Cardinal. 400 +?
They made some sick Paulie's in the "Lawsuit" era.
My first guitar was a Japanese knock-off lp style.
And most probably it was way better than most currently USA made Les Pauls.
First!
I have one as well - nice but too heavy in my opinion......and the neck sinks heavily...... one must get used to it. All the UA-camclips show sitting players ...i know why. SGs or a Strats are more comfortable on stage
I honestly love the weight. Not as heavy as a les Paul but with all the sustain. I’ve been gigging with it for about 5yrs now.
ice picky and you're out of phase bro
What?
Out of phase basically means your wiring is backwards or pickup....
The little toggle switches are for making the pickups out of phase. I use to own one of these.
@@TobyDavvy
Oh yeah, I get it... I refer to these setups as nuclear submarine layouts, because of how many combinations are possible, but here's the thing : supposedly, those pickups have a phase inversion setup - Look at the white and black pickups. They're not in phase, they're inverted.
So only one of your silver switches there, should be the higher one btw, splits BOTH pickups.
The switch right underneath; _that one is a phase inverter._
What it does is either stacks both pickups signal for (lol) the full experience, _or_ you can substract either pickup's signal from the other, making the sound thinner, a bit more tinny.- the kind of tone that differentiates Nirvana's second verse guitar track from the song rape me from the rest of the song's guitar tone.
Gives it a bit of a lofi edge, makes it snappier too.
At some point the overall volume might go up if you lower one of either pickup's volume - that's because, if phase is inverted, lowering volume means substracting less from the then dominant pickup - thus, its signal and tone fuller.
