On the dishes...our dishwasher died a couple of months ago and we decided not to replace it. We decided we could spend that $1000 elsewhere on better things (like dental work!). So we wash, dry, and put away after each meal, snack, etc., so that it doesn't build up. I wash as I cook so that helps as well. Surprisingly enough, I don't really miss the dishwasher.
Keep a bin of sudsy water in your sink while you cook that way you can quickly rinse and wash things or at least soak the silverware... my grandma always did this and it's a like saver.. water saver.. awesome
I don't have a dishwasher so everything here is done by hand. If you can get an over the sink dish rack to give you more counter space and it'll drip into the sink. Wash dishes after every meal and teach your kids who can reach how to wash their own dishes to help out. My teens and tween all wash their own dishes throughout the day and we work together for dinner dishes to get done. It's my least favorite chore so I keep thankfulness in heart that we have dishes to clean. It means God blessed us enough to eat. ❤
We're a family of 9 and I wash all of our dishes by hand and have been since our dishwasher broke in December. I enjoy lighting an oil lamp in the window sill by my sink and listening to 1940's music. I find the videos on Nemo's Dreamscapes wonderful! They have music and background noise like rain or crickets. That's what I do to really set the mood for dishes. It makes the task very enjoyable.
I wash dishes by hand a lot, especially in the past when I’ve had dishwashers that just don’t work well. One thing I’ve done is just open the dishwasher and use the racks in there for drying if I don’t want to take up counter space with a drying rack.
If you have plastic cups, plates, bowls, and sometimes even glass ones, fill one side of sink with as hot of water as you can stand. When you rinse it and put in the rack, it will steam dry so fast and you barely have to think about it.
Just wanted to say your video was the perfect level of calming and motivating to help me tie up our house tonight and put everything to bed before putting myself to bed. ❤
Hey, thanks for the motivation. A clean, tidy home is so nice and welcoming ❤ I'm wondering if you don't leave the house much? Do you still have an "errand day" like you used to? Maybe you just don't talk about those things because it's not the focus of your channel? Do you and your husband go on dates? Do you ever go camping? How do you celebrate birthdays? Lol some questions I have 😊
Me too. Her family seems more like homebodies, I’ve never actually heard her discuss going out with the kids during their homeschool week etc. but to each their own, I guess.
I also wash my dishes by hand as well, it can get a lot for family of 7 but my biggest tip would be try to stay on top of them, wash through out the day, so at the end of the day your not stuck with big mountain of dishes 😅😊
Never had a dishwasher . I'm in Scotland and a lot of our origional homes didn't have the space for one in the kitchen . Also I can get it done way quicker than any washer . Lol😂 it's just something I never felt tge need for . I can see how a larger family would need one though for sure . Sheridan sheets are the best sheets I would never use any thing but Sheridan 800 count I’ve had for 6 years so far never pilled and are still are like brand new
Dear Tabitha, I really feel your struggle doing the dishes by hand for such a huge family. My tips for you: First, sort your dishes in categories. Utensills, cups, glasses, plates and pots and so on. 2: Start With the cups and glasses, so you have the Most clean water. Than the utensills and at least plates an pots. Since you have so much dishes to clean i would suggest switching the water halfway through (or if you thinks its too dirty). 3: Drying the dishes after every category, so you can see the process and you can take short breaks if you need to. 4. Well Watch videos from homemakers 😅 I often watch your content for motivation. Nice music is helpfull too 😊. Since you are a very faithfull person you Could Prag and spend time with God 😊. The best thing to do is to combine a chore with something that is good for you. 5: Nice dish soap and pretty towels. 6. Be proud of yourself 😊 Greetings from Germany
We have a dishwasher amd we still usually handwash dishes 😅 we have a family of 8 also and we have one plate and one bowl per person so after each meal the littlw kids clear the table, i quickly hand wash the few dishes we just used and the big kids dry and put away. Done in 5 minutes and all ready for the next meal.
I learned on another channel (That Awkward Mom) to start with clean sinks, fill one side with your soap water and just pile the washed dishes on the rinse side first and then rinse, that way you can wash them but be able to stop/pause if needed. I have tried it and I do really like it!
I truly enjoy your channel. Thank you for sharing your light with us. I’m always looking for modest dresses. Where do you get yours? I’m sorry if you’ve answered this question before.
Hi Tabitha Have a fantastic day and week. Always remember no matter what happens in our daily circumstances. That God loves you and cares about every detail of your life!!Lyatt Sandee from Ohio.💜💜🙏🤘😊
For washing dishes, I have found it much less discouraging when I start with the big dishes, pots and trays. Knock those off and your load seems significantly less than if you start with your cutlery. Also, I prefer to leave most dirty dishes to the side and only have a few in the sink at a time, that also feels less overwhelming to me.
For some reason I completely forgot you are in Michigan. We just moved back here from being in N Carolina 3 yrs, Florida 4 yrs then Colorado 8 yrs. We moved back to be by family its been too long and so glad we are back. MINUS the AQI lately lol.
I love your videos, you are so inspiring. How are you always so calm and take your time with everything? I always feel like im in a rush with everything i do.
This was encouraging to watch while I got my day started! I also normally wash dishes by hand when I can (our dishwasher is not that great either lol). I like to fill one side of the sink with hot water and dish soap, let some of the dishes soak, scrub, rinse, and lay them out to dry. Definitely recommend getting a pair of rubber gloves or something that will protect your hands because they definitely get worn out and dry from all the soap and water! 😊
My spiritual parents taught us as younger parents to teach our children how to clean cook etc. just a quick tip, the children can come help you pick up some of those things in the living room if they know where those things go..especially if they are 3 years old and up. Whatever you train them up doing is what they will do. While at the same time they have play time etc. I havent watched many of your videos so I am not sure if you let them do that but being pregnant again with my 3 toddlers..the eldest 5 years old..she is such a big help even in the simplest things.. (fixing her and her sisters pb&j, sweeping the floor, vacuuming etc. its not a chore to her, he actually likes helping mommy) Also your videos are inspiring. I don't know you personally but your attitude about wifehood and motherhood are good! Nowadays people don't have a good attitude about it because of the heavy feminism that was pushed into society.
Thank you for your videos, they are very uplifting and comforting ❤️ I also like your “ this mamas faith” account! I was wandering if you could share where you find music tracks😊
I paused the video to comment when you said give me all your hand washing tips. My husband never liked me using the dishwasher because he said it doesnt wash dishes, you technically need to wash them first. He always used it as a place to dry the dishes that were handwashed...Long story short, we re did our kitchen on a budget and instead of getting a dishwasher I found a beautiful vintage porcelain double basin farmhouse sink (with an under cabinet) in mint condition and I absolutely love it!!! Best decision ever! its beautiful and way more fun to wash dishes with the two drainboards on the side.
You can leave those eggs on the counter un refrigerated if you don’t wash the bloom off them ☺️ if you wash them they must be refrigerated and they won’t last as long

A suggestion for cleaning those big gorgeous windows....mix together blue dawn dish soap and ammonia into water. For a spray bottle of water a capful of ammonia to 1 T of dawn. My husband fatigued out of fighting the kids over dirty dishes mixed with clean and threw the dishwasher out to the curb about 15 years ago. Life gives its good dish years and it’s bad dish years, they come and go. But I enjoy your theory “ done is better than perfect” and I’ve taught my family our dishes don’t need to be sterilized, just reasonably cleaned, rinsed and dried.
