It IS the reed's fault
True
YES IT IS 👌
I know you do art and I have seen you comment on other videos. And you play clarinet too?!

Don't you hate it when you're cleaning your clarinet and the rag comes out the bell and your just like "that's all my spit from the last hour".
Yeah. Once I got the rag stuck in the clarinet and I had to push it out with a chopstick. I used half and hour getting it out!
i sometimes think that wind instrument are a bit disgusting cos of the spit there is inside and then remember that my bass strings are full of sweat and oil from my hands ...yuk
Except it’s not your spit, but the vapour from your breath that condenses
I thought it goes in the bell not out the bell
@@lilcbay6864 they meant “came outside of the bell”
i'll admit it... i'm the one who always blames it on the reed
IKR
Me too hahahah
me too but deep down I think we all know it it because we are shit
Never know....chipped reeds cause problems, but most of us just make excuses 😂
Everyone is
If thats your fifth reed of the day, it's definitely you.
I was bored playing clarinet, so I taught myself to play bassoon. We have double reeds which we have to make . We usually play in two clefs, but sometimes also treble. You were complaining about using all of your fingers, but I play 12 keys with my left thumb and 6 keys with my right thumb! Bassoon is a much more challenging instrument.
it's probably the reed, because it's brand new, but you just are too impatient to play a reed through to the point where it actually sounds good. gotta power through that awkward new Reed crap
Well, you nailed how violinists feel when someone tells them how easy their instrument is XD
Fianna Connolly Thanks! We know the string player struggles all too well 😂
My friend plays violin. I ply clarinet. I never called her instrument easy cause it’s not. Because they do it with one hand but they do have to worry about getting every notes in tune just one little wrong sport can change how to note comes out and shifting can be harder for tuning as well. Clarinet also has a lot of problems too so all instruments are equally hard.
I know. I've always wanted to play two instruments, the clarinet, and the violin. I play clarinet now, but from all the videos of others playing the violin, yeah violin seems hard. Some have actually called it one of the hardest to play.
I play both the violin and clarinet, and when I started clarinet I thought it was going to be easy because I thought “oh yeah! I don’t have to put my hand on stings all the time and there’s not bowing difference! Boy was I wrong!
im friends with string players (one bass one viola).......i've learned to keep my thoughts to myself
Absolutely hate the ones always blaming the reed! If only they practiced 40 hours...
40 hours is the minimum, follow in ling ling’s footsteps
i blame my reed because i use chipped reeds until the limit
for me it actually is, because once i change it it automatically fixes
Yeah and then ling ling would be satisfied
I had a lot of power chairs in my section play with CHIPPED REEDS, while at pep rallies people would put their clarinet on the ground and get grass in it...
Yeah we have definitely seen that before! Chipped reeds, dirty pads, rusty keys, and the occasional maggots in the mouthpiece make the Clarinet the oh so special fantastic instrument it is!
@@UnqualifiedUniversity
maggots? in.. the mouthpiece- I can not imagine that
IM *SHUDDERING*
What the HELL did they eat that led to maggots in the mouthpiece?! O_O
@@UnqualifiedUniversity There have been instances where people (including myself) have chipped the actual mouthpiece by dropping it or something like that.
This is what happens when you don't practice for 40 hours.
Thank you! Someone of culture!
Yes, ling ling is very unhappy
the clarinet player who forgets their music on a concert day, the clarinet player who changes their mouthpiece every 20 bars, the ligature fiddler, the permanent tuner - pulls the barrel out, pushes the barrel in...in..out...in...out, or the one who plays along with a solo, or what about the one who cant sit still in a chair and plays swinging their instrument around like a metronome on speed, or the one who tells every one they play all clarinets, flute, oboe, all saxophones.....
As a clarinet player I can admit I’ve forgotten my music multiple times during concert and pep band days
That violinist had so much patience 😂
Thank you, it all of my willpower to keep the horde of insults back 😂🎻
1:45 had me laughing loudly in public 😂😂
Dylan Byers Good! glad we could help you with that! 😂
Thats me :>
I suck at clarinet
The one he tries to prove clarinet is better, I play both violin is way harder to play
I agree! Finally have someone on my side 😂
I've been playing for eight years and I still feel like every one of these scenarios applies to me 😂😂
Me as a third chair: We don't get any of the good parts! No one gives a crap about us! I stopped playing for 2 whole minutes and no one cared. Christ if another slide hits me "on accident" from those jerks behind us, I'm going to lose it!
Me as a second chair: Hey guys. Yup, put in some extra hours, now I'm one of you. I think my family might actually maybe sort of kind of see me at performances now.
Me as first chair: I used to be one of the lowly silver key peasants in 2nd and 3rd, but now I'm hot s--t and everyone else can die.
Me after a month of first chair: The band director can see me eye to eye. Everyone can see me. Literally.see.my.every.finger. Not one of the thristy firsties has laughed or said a word in 3 rehearsals. I take it all back, practicing this many hours and being responsible for the possible musical destruction of our entire section is too much.
Me back in second chair: I didn't mean it. You guys aren't peasants. Real nice Jerry, you really didn't see my foot there before you emptied your barrel of spit on me?!
"1st clarinets play the melody, 2nd clarinets play the harmony that backs up the melody, 3rd clarinets play the notes that are left over." - Eddie Izzard
@@PianoFish ACCURATE
Bruh same 😂😂😂 I’m first chair, but I’m with all the upper class men and it’s embarrassing when I can’t play the 1st part while my other classmates at 2nd and 3rd brag about how easy their pieces are 💀
@@Mushroomy_.-._ Ha, you know the pain!
Literally all of them
Rayloc Brown Thanks Rayloc! The Clarinet is an awfully special instrument isn’t it? 😂
We all do these once in our life.
I’M THE ONE WHO BLAMES THE REED LOLLL
You are missing the one that made people hate me so much when I was in school. Showing up 1/2-3/4 through the year and stealing first chair effortlessly after just starting the instrument (being put in intermediate-advanced classes), practising very little and just having a knack for it. I repeated this with different instruments every time I moved because it felt slightly more challenging. Now if only I could pick up sports this easily.
relatable, this happened with my clarinet and flute. Everyone now relies on my because i'm the only flute
Bro same. Except everyone likes me 😂 I’m a freshman and I got 3rd chair in honors band in a 5A school
I think the squeaking would be a beginner problem because it's new to them and they might not have their reed positioned correctly. Sometimes on my clarinet I have a sweet spot where the reed goes that make the best sound you just have to find. Also isn't it difficult when you have to use a new reed.
i have seen bad clarinet player in my section who squeaks too lol mainly bc their tongue isn’t high enough…. They have been playing every since middle school T-T
I have entire pieces in my head RUINED because a 1st section clarinet player squeaked through every piece in the rep. So to this day, if I hear one of those, the squeak is in my head. This was a highly accomplished band where you know the clarinets are always the tightest section, but nah night of the concert, let's get out that new reed.
the practice one... I feel called out
I played bass clarinet in middle school. I just realized that I needed so much more practice. I don't remember ever blaming my issues on my reed. I may have been suffering from anxiety.
🤣🤣🤣. Hilarious. About to start playing the clarinet again after many years. You’ve warned me on what NOT to do. 🤣🤣
Many years ago, I was taking clarinet lessons, and one of my teachers, who was an experienced instrumental music teacher in a junior high school with clarinet being one of his main instruments, would occasionally squeak, and this was immediately followed with 'there's-something-wrong-with-my-clarinet" as if HE couldn't POSSIBLY have done something wrong!
most band directors be like...
I can't blame the first one. We were all bad at something before we're good at it. Relearning the clarinet after 20 years, I squeak all the time now. Especially when going over the break.
and I love the one who was complaining that was awesome, and that violin player held it in so well
I'm the one who never practices... what I'm supposed to practice, and somehow always does well.
Example: I auditioned for a band and got 2nd chair clarinet (there were 14 awesome clarinet players in the group and I was 2nd) without practicing, then proceeded to not practice the music and sounded great
I have to admit I'm the one who's always squeaking. But at least im in tune. >:{
That’s what happens when you don’t practice 40 hours a day (This is a total joke please don’t take this seriously, I was just referencing you’re other comment and twoset)
The guy that sits in the wrong seat and continues to warm up even though they see you approaching.
20 seconds in to the video is how I feel when someone calls me a clarinet player when I’m actually an oboe
The thing with my highschool band is that my band instructor picks a 1st clarinet from every grade level, so there’s 4 first chairs and then the rest are either 2nd or 3rd parts. And I’m the 1st chair for my grade level leaving around 6 other backhoe clarinets.
THING IS
The back row clarinets like to try and pretend they’re better than the first row’s even though the never come to practice or even try 😭
11: the guy so inept, he should have played saxophone instead!
(I'm obviously joking, but I know clarinetist dismissing the sax as a much easier version of the clarinet, up to the point they say the best saxophonists actually are the failed clarinetists...)
As a clarinet and a saxophone player, clarinet is harder in a lot of ways, but they're different enough you cant make a one to one comparison
@@ellielegler338 Most clarinetists which also play saxophone will actually say the latter is a bit easier, but there's no "easy" instrument if you truly want to master it.
Technically, from an in tune standpoint, the clarinet is easier because it's not a flared cone like the sax, but a straight tube (more or less)
This makes it easier to hit the lower and higher notes. Sax has to modulate with embouchure (including oral cavity) and whatnot much more and high and low notes are hard, blabla.
So...I would say clarinet is easier... I think you just have more freedom with the sax cause people don't expect as much beauty from it as the clarinet.
Personally I think that's cause the sax also sounds more 'interesting' intrinsically while the clarinet is more focused...and you also have it used in jazz a lot, which can go wild, too.
There's also klezmer clarinet etc, which can also get wild and wacky but I think otherwise, people expect 'classical music grade' and the sax is not only not as represented there, but also requires a more clarinet like approach, different embouchure etc.
So maybe that's why it has the stigma of 'failed clarinet'. I like all wind instruments, and in fact, neither of those are my top fave, which would be the (German) bassoon. Such a beautiful voice it has.
I went for tenor sax cause I can't afford a bassoon lmao.
oh and baritone was too raunchy for me, still, love its sound as well.
Hi I'm in my second year of playing clarinet and was wondering if you could give me any tips that I could use. I struggle the most with getting a clear tone out and it sounds airy.
I am thinking about picking up the clarinet I went to my local music store to try playing one and its really fun but I have to ask is it worth the money
Yeah
It is worth every penny! I have been playing for four years and I love it! (It does require a lot of practice to get really good at it, but other than that it’s wonderful!)
100% worth the money!
YES. Honestly it depends on you, if you’re really passionate about it and learning it then it’ll definitely be worth it
Yes
AHaAHAHAHAHA When you said you could pick up an oboe and become a professional lmaooooooooo
Tell me why whenever I change/move the reed it sound better though?
We need a full video of you just playing black dog and I know you have the music you were playing it in the video
Lmaooo these are so true bye 💀
Lol for me the gliss part is difficult, I play clarinet but don’t know how to make that sound
I just got my clarinet today, and how do u even get a sound out of it? I think I’m not getting a sound because my reed is kinda chipped do u think so?
Chipping can be detrimental to a starter, try another reed and see if that helps!
@@UnqualifiedUniversity I just got a new reed! Thank you for the advice it’s wayyyyy more easier to make a sound now. I’m learning baby shark now lol.💗💗love the vids.
form ur mouth into a shape like how u say 鱼 ( yu ), breathe from the corners of ur mouth so that ur mouth shape will still be there. Change ur reed once in about 1-2 months ? make ur bottom lip hard and thick, and other than that just practice regularly haha
Chipped Reed's make it not work/sound bad
I used to be the red one when I couldnt stop squeaking last year even tho u practiced so much but I'm so much better now lol and happy
When you learn to work on reeds and break them in, they are so consistent you'll never worry about them again. That said, I'm the one who always glisses and plays high XD
0:38 oh hello
Dude this is so true
I'm a sax player, and I dont usually blame my reed, but sometimes you can get a bad one it and it can be a real pain in the ass.
7:56 NO... You didn't...
I only blame the reed if there is a legitimate reason why. This would be instances where the reed is chipped so badly, it barely plays.
I do all of these, but I'm safe ...cause I don't play the clarinet, but the sax!
0:40 Bro started playing black dog by Scott McAllister.
Wood winds be like there is a huge crack in my reed when the crack is really small
5:50 AHEM
My clarinet lessons are just me and my teacher talking about her personal life like it's a k-drama
"There's no way he said that! That ungrateful bastard! I'm not suprised she left him. They were never going to last ith his attitude problems 😒"
Extremely accurate
As a violinist this was amazing lol
Surprised to hear Black Dog
Why don’t more people use fiber cell reeds? Not ideal for concert band, but I never broke, or had to blame the reed in marching band 😂
If only I could play the oppernan studies that fast
Two words…….. prac and tice
As a Brass musician i’d like to join the conversation. 😂😂😂
which instrument do you play?
I'm totally the person who blames the reed. it's just too accurate lol. But when he said that he went through five reeds.....that's too insane.
God I wish I was the one who can’t stop glossing. I’ve been trying to figure it out and still cant do it. I’m just the one who blames it on the reed 😂
But there was SO many times it WAS the reed and nobody believed me, but then I'd switch them and everything was totally fine but nobody was paying attention anymore
3:12 I mean hes not wrong. How do you get All county first chair 2 years in a row and you wont even make a chair in allstate. smh
8:19 good think I play trumpet :)
The first one is literally me in band 😭
Hahahahhahaahh loved it!
i sort of have done all of those once but i blame the reed a lot
I'm definitely the squeaky one, sad part is my music teacher doesn't play clairnet and I'm the only one so I can never figure out what's going on 😭
there are a few things you can make sure to prevent squeaks (I hope you learn from this because I don't know what you know)
1. If the reed is too high or too low on the clarinet, it will squeak. There should only be a tiny sliver of mouthpiece showing
2. cover the hole the full way, if it leaks it squeaks
3. you may be putting too much or too little of your mouth into the mouthpiece, it should be half way in
4. it may just be a lack of practicing, keep at it and you'll get it eventually
I hope this helps
Embrasure or reed almost always
In a bigginer so I'm worst
Don't worry, we all went through this. You'll get better. I used to sound terrible. Bye
Oh man
nah i found out my squeaking wasnt me when my friend who has nevert squeaked once asked to switch mouth pices with his and he tried it and started squeaking aswell
I think you might be biting on your reads too much that’s why your reads are not working correctly is because you’re biting too hard so maybe if you release the pressure it might help with my principal clarinet player for the blind band
this video..
SO RELATABLE!!
HAHA
the reed ALWAYS!
i gotta be honest my friends in the begging of band squeak only
Trumpet is super terrible though. Sure, you can learn all the fingerings in a day, but then you go above G above the staff for a few seconds and then you're dead for the next three hours...
Ahhhh called out 😭😭🤦♀️
0:07 this is actually squidward
Im literally the one who never practices
My mom makes me!
I'll admit I'm "Blame it on the reed", "The complainer" and "The one that never practices". lol
BTW, you left out a few others. There is the "I'm God's gift to the clarinet" player; The "I'm better than you" player; And who could forget the "Tone sounds like an icepick" player. There are probably many others too. I've found that clarinet players are some of the most snobbish and elitist musicians out there even if we don't play as good as we think we do. After all, we have to deal with that pesky reed. lol
sax and oboe deal with reeds too.
True!!!🤣🤣
My dad knows how to play the clarinet so I tried doing a duet with him but he dosent know how to read the notes and plays like 0:39
Not me being 3, 4 and 5
Confused trumpet noises
you forgot the guy that slurs everything
You forgot those who don’t count there rest and just listen to others so they are always late and clarinets who don’t count rest but guess so they are always early
I heard the lick…
I mean like…I play Clarinete and every song I do in band has no rests for me
What about the competitive player.
1:40 omg my soul
man turns into a peashooter
1:46 guilty
16 years of playing and I'm all of them...
"the one who only plays high" I thought you meant a different type of "high"
I’m a clarinet player sometimes my clarinet squeaks
Everyone else: Geez I need to practice
Clarinetists:tHiS rEeD iS tErRiBlE
THE SECOND ONE IS SO FUNNY HAHHHHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHA
anD THAT IS WHY YOU MUST PRACTICE FOR 40 HOURS. Must follow in master Ling Lingus steps
It was hulareus!
this is sad 3:08
It cant ima sax player.
As an oboe player we do the exact same things 😂
#1 and 3 is me
