As far as the 1, Mehr langsam is considered, It is indeed way too fast, it is not anywhere played "meh langsam" and is not often zurückhaltend, it seems rather affirmative, rather than contained, except for the less rhythmic section where it comes out better...
@@jachymspacek7562 I think Schumann used the whole beat of the metronome for his tempo indication, that would make a lot of sense. In the way it’s played here, the pauses are redundant, and the “senza ped” on the 2nd page is (as shown in the recording) hard to execute. His expression “often holding back” also cannot be realized unless you slow down drastically, while it is much more natural in the slower tempo.
Masterful tonal control and a beautiful musical arch spanning these four pieces. Gilels really is unsurpassed at his best- incredible playing!
Love it at 17:35
It's similar to the Beethoven motif Schumann used in his Fantasie (from An die Ferne Geliebte).
17:18 so great

Nice underrated Schumann! But the first movement is _way_ too fast; it's about a funeral procession.
I think that it is played in prescripted tempo, but words "mehr langsam" also evoque in me slightly slower tempo.

Do you know where I can purchase a printed copy of this music?
A music shop ?
Bizarre question - depends where you live? Or Amazon has it in it's sheet music section.
Freescores
Thanks! I’ll check these two places!

"Mehr langsam" but its the first movement....More fast than what?
mehr langsam is meant here as 'rather slow' i think
Probably like "Allegro molto" in the first movement(e.g. Taktakishvili's Piano Concerto)
Yep, as a german i can tell you "mehr langsam" doesnt mean slower. that would be "langsamer". "Rather slow" is a good translation i would say.
Good question. Schumann was inspired to believe that the Music is not beginning at the first bar. Music is coming from an other Word.
