  • According to the United Nations, war, climate change, and inflation are the leading causes of the food crisis. This is a clear indication that the food crisis is not only an environmental crisis but is related to social, economic, and political conditions worldwide.
“You don’t tackle the food crisis if you don’t tackle the broader crisis.”
Antoine de-Saint, CEO of Danone, talks about taking a multifaceted approach to tackle the food crisis. He says that instead of simply displacing the issue, it is important to tackle the root cause of the crisis. For the food crisis, this means not only ensuring that everyone has access to food and nutrition but also improving the economic conditions of the farmers. To achieve this, Danone partnered with One Young World Counsellor Mohammad Yunus and his Grameen Bank to provide microcredit to farmers 17 years ago, and has been committed to the cause ever since.
