So, I saw video this last year and at the spot where they see the amazing view I thought, "Okay, now I have to learn Norwegian and go to Norway" because it was so beautiful. So I did, two weeks ago, and I stayed for a night in Hardanger, and it was unbelievably gorgeous; in fact, it was even more breathtaking than depicted in this video. So thank you, thank you, tusen tusen mange tusen takk, for translating this, because otherwise I might not have watched it, and might not have ever experienced beautiful, enchanting, seriously amazing Norway.
I am so happy to have stumbled upon this post. I travelled to meet Jon Skaar, in Oct, that same year. I am related for my Great Great Grandmother Brita Skaar came from the farm that is shown here! Jon showed me much hospitality and I ended up staying there for two nights. I am so glad to find this video!
Jonathan Compton WOW what a story!
I think it is very sweet of them to play cards with this man. I mean, you can see that they aren't doing it for the sake of TV, but they do their best to keep the old and lonely man company while they're at his place. Not only cards, but we can also see Bård cooking/doing dishes. Such nice boys!
This was a really interesting episode to see their brotherly dynamic - at least back then.
Vegard is very much a big brother, prepared, walking in front, admonishing Bård when he's being an ass. Bård is a typical defiant little brother, doing the exact opposite of what his brother says and totally baiting him into eating the forbidden chocolate.
Still, though, they look up to each other and were clearly trying to show each other how cool they are. Vegard in his nerdy way (look how prepared I am, look at my boots), and Bård makes fun of him even though he obviously realized that Vegard's way was the smart way.
These two are fascinating.
Vegard seems like he's prepared for about anything :)
What a beautiful and very, very, immensely high place to live. I am glad they were so nice to him (and adorably fighting and eating Jon's present) :D!
Oh yay, the rest of this episode!!
hahahaha, i love their dynamic!! i can just picture them as kids endlessly giving each other a hard time oh man.
Fun. Vegard doesn't approve of eating the chocolate (big brother). But, Bard eats it anyway with any excuse he can think of. Vegard doesn't approve... but, ends up eating some candy later. I love the explanation they gave to the Hermit Man about why half the candy was gone. Beautiful view.
This was way more interesting than I thought it would be. Jon Skaar is an interesting guy.
Was*, he passed away in 2013 unfortunately.
Aww. I'm sorry to hear that. He was quite a character.
I've been wanting to see the rest of this video, thanks! And I gave to just say what a beautiful country Norway us. I hope I get to visit some day.
So short! it could be very interesting to hear of the family , history etc
I am sad but expected to hear one day of his death, being from the States, it was strange leaving and watching him waive goodbye, knowing that would be the last I'd ever see of him.
Norway is so beautiful!
So charming! I can't get enough.
RIP Jon :/
Did he die?
kathykisslight
yes unfortunately he died in may 2013 :( ..i wonder what will happen to his house now..would be a shame if nobody took care of all this
Oh virkelig?? Really? So very sad!!! He was such a cute old man. Rest is peace. :-( I hope someone bought it!
Protip to the boys: next time, buy something for yourself as well as for your host. That way you won't be offering him a beat-up box of half-eaten chocolates.
If you look at the footage at the store, they bought more than just that box. In fact it looks like they bought two chocolate boxes. I suspect they opened the one and gave it to him on camera as a gimick. but he got an un-opened one off-camera as well :o)
"Er det enkelte dager hvor det bare er FOR hektisk?" -Nei.
Enkelt og greit😂
Vegard - ok i'm your big brother, put that down!
Hello "Guys" Godt jobba, skulle bare vært et lengre program dette! Lag mer av dette slaget, promoter den fantastiske Vestlandsnaturen med de mange spesielle og "bevaringsverdige" personligheter!
My third child is Baard, I love her. 'You're such a hypocrite'.
Fascinerende å høre hvordan Vegard glir over i bredere dialekt når han snakker med Jon.
Han fyrer har også vært med på "Der ingen skulle tru at nokon kunne bu".
vegard is soo old brother-y XD
haha the half eaten and damaged box of chocolates!! they are so hilarious. and it's so cool to live up there away from civilisation :D
omg, Bard is really a little shit hahaha he's just like my sister!! and I think I'm like Vegard xD I liked the 'eremitten'! haha he's so calm! hahha :D
shame on me... I´m the older one and behave like Bard -.- :D
My little brother is also like Bård!(I think)
Rip john skaar 1925-2013
I wonder how those heavy and big stuff went up there....
Hvor mange meter over havet var det han bodde igjen?
Kven som bur på garden hans no då ?
R.I.P Jon Skaar
What was the playing card game they were playing with the old man?
+TaiChiKnees it is called casino
Sindre0207 Thanks!
Yolve home now and I are doing ❤😊😅
Terrible Bård eating the gift. Bård always rude and childish... Vegard always tries to make the situation better but the stupid brother of his destroys the good mood every time. Good old Jon Skaar! What a legend! Ein ekte legende!
Quick translation question for my continuing studies: At 3:43 Bård says something like: Nå tar eg en (or ett)... and then Vegard curses and you've translated it as "what the hell" and I'm trying to figure out the Norsk equivalent or idiom. Phonetically I can only get "hale sag ga" or "hale sa ga" which I can't decipher.
TaiChiKnees Bård says "Nå tar eg en" and Vegard says "Helsikke" Its a Bergen-dialect curse word, I think its another version of the word "Helvete" (which means hell) but it is used in other parts of western norway aswell, I'm from Ålesund and i sometimes use it xD
mynameismina9 Tusen takk! Norwegian is such an interesting language with so many charming dialects. Love it!
+TaiChiKnees It's actually used all over Norway, and it's basically a "nice" version of 'helvete' (hell). So it's the same as 'heck', which is a "nice" version of 'hell'.
jesudomine Thank you! The most difficult thing for me when trying to improve my listening skills is the idiom and slang used by real people; that's stuff that isn't in the textbooks. Tusen takk and ha det bra! :-)
:-D
I did not understand anything, because I do not speak English (well, somewhat) or your language :D
¿Alguien habla español? xd
Hablo un poco español.
Luna Oswaald Haha.
Yo también :D
Ugh, should say have and is...
