Some NES catridges can use audio samples that the NES is capable of decoding. But the tech was expensive so many games that were made on a budget tend to use the NES simple 4 channel format. if you use a p wing/tanooki leaf/tanooki suit and fly over the left, theres another bowser boss battle over the left wall, except that bowser doesn't damage you.

Just wait until that one time you play him and there's a mishap and you're small again and you have to hope he stomps his way through all the bricks and you're on the other side avoiding fireballs at odd angles and waiting for him to make that big leap, hoping you'll have it timed, hoping he won't heave that odd fireball in midair to get you mid-jump. And then doing that again and again with no margin for error while he works his way down. This one can still be pretty tough for NES vets.
I remember finally reaching bowser for the first time when I was a kid. Holy HELL the adrenaline spike was UNREAL. Unique music, unique mechanics, unique boss.
recall the first time you as a little kid reached king koopa. the castle was quite hard. after several hard tries, you managed to reach the door. you know in your heart that koopa is near, because of all the fireballs showing up before. you enter the door, a somewhat spacious place, as you take a few steps in, the song plays, koopa drops from above, spewing fireballs, and you was like "oh shit". and after finding out that stepping on him had no effect, you went "ohshitohshitohshitohshit"

You should hear the super mario rpg soundtrack of this song..... You wouldn't think it was super nintendo
On a chip from 1982 also.
Frr
The NES isn't just doing spicy percussion, its Koji Kondo doing the NES, the same way Carlos Santana would do a guitar.
I love how Mario RPG remixed this song.
This comment just made realize this. After so many years...
Me too
That period though was suspicious
When I first played Mario RPG I was like, where did I hear this... Then I literally screamed OH! when I realized it was a remix of this.😂

The first official Bowser theme 💯

It's included in the long version of the bowser's keep music when you go through it for the second time, but not the first time

This came out first though

The key to beating Bowser in this game? Use the Koopa King's own strength against him. ;)
Or go in with the hammer bros. suit and defeat him real fast
Or use fire flower
This was re-used in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
This is a fact we all know when we played Super Mario RPG.
