2016, this town was nice and peaceful and beautiful as he described it. Small quaint hotels and hostels and Cambodian cafe and restaurants businesses. 2017: Things changed dramatically in such a short period. Everything Chinese. Chinese casinos, hotels, land, groceries. I wish I could make it stop but like most locals I felt helpless as it isn't my country. I hope this town goes back to the way it was or better with more support for local Cambodians and preservation of environment. I miss the old SIhanoukville.

Later I was a teacher for 12 years and I used to take my Cambodian wife to Sihanoukville every holiday. New Year on Ochheuteal was fantastic - half of Cambodia partying and letting off fireworks. We went last time in 2018 and promised never to go back. What happened to Sihanoukville is just awful; a lesson in what corruption and greed does to poor, local people. @@BlackKnight_999 well i haven't touched that topic of mass immigration through infrastructure investment yet, but you have also raised one of the concerns. Indeed investment in general bring benefits to the country in a lot of ways. Still, sudden mass immigration has its cons, heavy pressure on resources, different culture clashes, price hike in living expenses, population imbalances in countries with different races, and political shifts in countries that are allowed to vote.
China is indeed the most populous country in the world, but it's nowhere near the top 50 (I remember arounx 80) when it comes to population density, in fact they are even far behind from ASEAN country. The reason for these migrations is far away from the current topic, but just to say their population is not a reason for their migration.

Your gov't is making lots of money from the tax revenues and FDI. It helps the infrastructure, e.g., trains, water dams, power plants, schools, etc.
Poor SEA countries need to stop being backwater and more forward to modernization. Your enemies and western imperialist do not want you to develop, so that you can be forever poor and provide cheap labour to the capitalist countries.
Sihanoukville will be the entertainment hub in SEA and also tourism; attracting various nationalities of tourists from SEA. Better and larger than Macau and Las Vegas.
People just have to adjust to the transition period. All countries on the planet have been thru this transition period. Cambodia is no exception, or you can sit around, keep jerking, do nothing, stay poor and misery forever. Progression and development is better than dropping bombs from the skies. The western imperialists like war and bring war to non-white and non-western countries.
Malaysia and Singapore are role models when it comes to progression and development. Both are #2 and #1, respectively, in SEA.

I thought China said every interference in the world is western gov fault? That only western people ruin others countries. China needs a mirror. “Oh we are bringing jobs to the people” “we are making the people wealthy” I’m not sure prostitution and casinos and gangs make for a better society.

These problems existed long before the Chinese influx. Cambodia needs the Chinese. They have always been the ones to make the country go round economically from way back. Eventually they do assimilate into the Cambodian culture and become Cambodian as I am one myself.
