As much as I prefer longer edits to the majority of stuff on IG, I think social media is a huge factor in kids getting into the sport nowadays. Asides from exposure to blading, the fact they can post their progress online is one of the things keeping them hooked. The same goes for a lot of “back to bladers” too.
I couldn’t agree more, I quit social media for six months and im thinking of permanently stopping soon, I put out two full length videos and that is way more rewarding. It seems all people care about is likes and views on instagram and not the actual content. Nobody is going to remember your IG clips, they will remember a good video.
Social media is great in a sense that it allows anyone to get involved but the entry level has never been lower. 70% of what you see has zero impact on you. Video long format sections all the way. There’s a lot in a good soundtrack and filming and editing that shows the skater in the best version of themselves. That’s why medium, VG and the DB videos had such an impact.
JSP is the BEST for skating. I love what you 2 are doing for rollerblading. Austin & Billy are blading God's. Billy, I always watch your section in The Truth 2 to get hyped for everything. Also I am buying my 1st new blades in 12 years & I'm definitely getting a pair of Mesmer. Keep up the amazing work you 2. #BillyandAustinForPresidentandVicePresident
@@JumpStreetPodcast oh 100%, i just saw now that you could read my comment as sarcastic but i am certain that this is a big thing. many layers to it too as i think for example with the constant rewarding on social media theres a high risk of the natural drive in skating getting lost.
@@twgskate come on son...i know you... but yea i completely agree. i see both sides to it, personally, but this is how the kids would say "facts" or "big facts". posting weekly could motivate you more, i know it does for me when i can, and i rarely have a proper filmer with me to get serious clips for a full edit. I always wish i did though because i'd be right there filming for The Truth 3 baby
@@JumpStreetPodcast of course it’s a very personal take, i just feel a bit overwhelmed by all the ig content so thats how i came up with this take. but i also obviously enjoy filming when im skating by myself and figure things out :) like i said many layers, and also it’s good that there’s so many people with different takes on this
This is the first time I've watched jumpstreet and thought man, what an oldhead, lol. I felt like even Austin and Billy were just biting their tongue but Toss did have a good point in regard to stacking clips and I do miss the old days (shoot, I still collect the videos) but you have to adapt to the times man. Blading is no better or worse than it ever has been, it is less popular and there are less hammers (for better or worse) but otherwise it has continued to progress and the videos that do come out tend to be artsier and of high quality. The team or group traveling and skating format of Hoax 2 and the Shred Til You're Dead series will never get old to me tho so I hope that skate companies continue to support bladers in doing that like Them just did in Jakarta.
It is and it isn't, Todd made a very smart point there, why not do a BMC competition for old times sake (get your cats out to do the section ppl) then stick it together in an edit and spec edition DVD you can sell.. Just a thought.
Nowadays you have to show the sport to big name influences like the Kai Cenats, Adin Ross’s, UA-cam isn’t being utilized the right way by the pioneer’s of the sport nobody besides Rachard Johnson gets social media and learning vitality at that.. COLLABORATION’S NEED to be made outside the sport but channels NEED to be NICHED all the way to ROLLERBLADING then it can be fixed with baby steps

Any old time blader knows this... spot on..

When MB7 came out I waited until xmas day to watch it just to recreate that “getting a new skate video at xmas” feeling

When new vids dropped back in the day...EPIC!!! The summer of The Bottom Line and VG2 - 18 days... I went crazy skating around the city!
So awesome that I'm not on social media.
But yet you are on youtube 😂
