    Thanks Carl! :-) I am working through Your Digital Life 2.0 Course - excellent training for sure. Today, I found this YT video, Setting Up Your 2019 Goals. It has added a great deal to moving me forward as I have definite personal and business aims I am applying your Productivity Training to achieving.
    (As a side note, while I do appreciate Evernote, I am much more pleased with the well organized way I am developing to use Todoist for keeping my notes and resources recorded in. I prefer having my Goals and Tasks with their Notes and Resources organized and linked together in a single Productivity App, that is Todoist. Any thoughts or useful tips on this will be appreciated.) Dave

      Hi Dave, it doesn't matter too much where you put your goals. The key is to have them where you will see them regularly. Evernote for me is a playground for idea development. Once developed, I send everything over the Todoist.

    Hi Carl, great video. I wanted to know, given the Todoist Foundations upgrade is there a way to do this with sections? Interested to hear your view. Thanks

      Yes, you could do it and I think it would work very well. I'll be looking in to doing it and will do a video on it soon.

    Happy new Year Carl. Thanks for the tips for a Todoist Novice. very helpful indeed. How do you recommend to use Todoist to track feedback? For example an event organizer should provide you with content for a blog. How do you track if the content is delivered by Sunday?

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  5 років тому

      Hmmm that depends. If you requested the feedback by email, I would put the original email in my @waiting_for email folder. However, if you requested it by other methods, create a label in Todoist called "@Waiting_for" and check that label every day or as often as you feel necessary.
      I did a video on how I use my @waiting for label here: ua-cam.com/video/guzqR8DB1p0/v-deo.html

    Hi Carl thanks for the videos - do you have a link for creating an Evernote link in Todoist for Windows?

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  5 років тому +1

      Here you go, Nick:
      How To Access The Classic Evernote Link
      Right click on the desired Evernote Note you wish to link to
      Hold down Option on a Mac or Ctrl on a Windows machine. You will see the “Copy Note Link” change to “Copy Classic Note Link.”
      Select “Copy Classic Note Link.”
      Paste the Classic Note Link to the desired location.
      In the Evernote for Windows client - select your note(s) and then hold down Ctrl then go up to the menu bar and select Notes > Copy Note Links to get the old behaviour.

    How would you develop a goal that will take more than a year to complete? For example, I want to become a certified emergency manager but that will likely take me 2 to 3 years to attain? Would you do any of the planning differently other than the longer timeframe to complete?

      You might have to break up this long term objective into manageable chunks, least you be overwhelmed by the boat-load of tasks that you might create. (Although the power of "filters" might help with this).
      While I am still working on implementing Todoist in my life/work, I did notice over several of Carl's videos that the Someday/Maybe items were elements that were not "immediate" (e.g. could be more than a few months out, or just a mind dump of a wish list). The only time an item might move from the Someday/Maybe folder is when it is within my "immediate" or "near-term" horizon (create new or add to a named project) or it might be abandoned (deleted).
      Since I use Evernote as my companion to Todoist to Collect-Organize-Do (re: COD), I might consider creating either a single note or even a dedicated notebook (with multiple notes) within Evernote for any year/multi-year/complex objective. In your case, these notes might address high-level planning (e.g. breakdown by semester of courses to take to achieve certification) as well as medium level content (course abstract, outlines, overview, etc.). You might even place course notes as well as key metrics (e.g. reading lists, assignments, exams, etc.) within Evernote.
      Following that, head to Todoist to create a "project" for each course within the "current semester" to place relevant action items (e.g. read chapter 12; review specific challenging content; create draft for assignment X; etc.). You will have to tailor this approach that meets your style of learning and addressing the work required to meet your goal.
      Consider using Todoist to maintain focus on the "immediate" (< 3 months) or even "near-term" (< 12 months) objectives. Your desired (daily/weekly/monthly) routines should also be within Todoist to maintain balance during this long journey, of course.
      When a new semester comes into view (e.g. less than 45 days out), create/update your high level action plan in Evernote (or other similar tool) and use the cut/paste feature to generate anticipated action items into Todoist (e.g. milestone dates for major assignments, tests and exams for the semester). I would then consider using only Todoist going forward to capture all the granular tasks that might come to mind. Avoid using more than one system (e.g. both Todoist and Evernote) to capture and manage action items.
      Check out Carl's other videos that discusses the significance of the "calendar" to block out times in the context of a student (e.g. lectures, reading, study groups, exercise, focus, etc.) while using Todoist to support tasks. Employing two-way sync with Google calendar and Todoist can really simplify the marriage between calendar and to-do lists.
      Hopefully some of my feedback was helpful. Maybe Carl or others might have ideas as well to share.

      Hi Molly, I would suggest creating active goals for the semester you are in. You could create goals for future semesters, but as thing are likely to change I would only create a goal for the semester I am in and focus all my efforts to completing that semester.
      The overall goal is to become an emergency manager, but as that will take you 2 to 3 years to attain then breaking it down into either semesters (if it's a course you are doing) or (years if it's on the job training.)
      As 10Kview suggests below, using Evernote or OneNote to manage your notes and overall objectives for each year could also be useful for you.
      I hope that helps.
