    You’ve got good rhythm...stapling to the beat of the music. 😂 👌

    Thanks for showing the herringbone procedure and dealing with the transitions. I'm so used to seeing your usual beveled joints, it's interesting to see you dealing with the cove and bead method. It certainly illustrates why you would prefer the beveled technique.

    This video on the 11:00 section answered how I need to do a transition on my sup. Similar front shape with a ridge up the center front.

    I watch your videos here and there but never realized that you're in my area. I know the exact spot in your opening clip, grew up mountain biking there.

    Nice audio work when stapling to the beat on the first strips there :)

    While it looks like doing cove and bead strip is quicker and easier overall, it does complicate fitting the long tapers. I wonder if making a sanding block with a cove profile in it would help make those tapered coves easier.

    One option to have a sharp knife always on hand is to buy old pairing knives from thrift stores, nip the end off but for 1.5/2 inches and just sharpen them on your bench grinder. I learned it from an old bootmaker, must have been 20 razor sharp implements around that shop, never more than a step away from them. I get the appeal of having your pocket knife too but if it's not sharp...

    Would you say the the cove and bead, was any faster than say the roto bevel ? Including the time to machine the coves and beads?

    • @NickSchade
      @NickSchade  4 роки тому +2

      Cove and bead is probably faster. If you are set up with a good system for milling the cove and bead, it probably takes less than a minute to do both to a full length strip. It is going to take longer than that with any form of individual beveling. The reason to use the RoBo-bevel is better quality fits.

    Nick, Do you have Petrel Kayak plans for fiberglass vacuum infusion??

    • @NickSchade
      @NickSchade  4 роки тому

      The plans for a full-on FRP composite kayak are the same as for a strip-built. You first strip-build the plug, then make a mold of the plug and use the mold to make the FRP kayak.

    Nice video, please address your microphone. Many of your latest videos sound like you're in a hurricane with wind noise.

      I recently discovered my microphone was dying. The cable was developing a break in it. Unfortunately, this whole build was using that same microphone so there are a bunch more episodes that are going to sound like crap.
      I didn't discover the problem while building the boat because I didn't review the video until months later. Lesson learned, but too late now.

    I noticed the base of your block plane is tapered toward the back. Could you tell me the make and model number of that plane.

      I have a couple block planes that I use:

      JOHN SHOUREAS , pretty sure the block plane you’re thinking of is the brass colored one? That’s the Lie Nielsen No. 102 Low Angle Block Plane. That fits in the hand so well, nice weight, and holds its edge very well. My favorite tool in my workshop by far...

      @@marksoutham2481 Thanks Mark for replying, but before Nick answered my question, I slowed the video to 0.25 speed and at 11:55 in the video, it shows it to be a Veritas Apron Plane.
