  • Linkin Park The Requiem The Radiance And Burning in The Skies
    The Requiem=00:01 - 2:00
    The Radiance= 2:00 - 2:57
    Burning in the Skies= 2:58 - End
    God save us everyone
    will be burn
inside the fires of a thousand suns
    for the sins of hand
    sins of our tongue
    sins of our father
    sins of our young
    God save us everyone
    will be burn
inside the fires of a thousand suns
    for the sins of hand
    sins of our tongue
    sins of our father
    sins of our young
We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty, and to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, 'Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another.
I use the dead wood to make the fire rise
The blood of innocence burning in the skies
I filled my cup with the rising of the sea
And poured it out in an ocean of debris
    I'm swimming in the smoke
    Of bridges I have burned
    So don't apologize
    I'm losing what I don't deserve
    What I don't deserve
I held my breath as clouds began to form
But you were lost in the beating of the storm
But in the end we were meant to be apart
In separate chambers of the human heart
    I'm swimming in the smoke
    Of bridges I have burned
    So don't apologize
    I'm losing what I don't deserve
    It's in the blackened bones
    Of bridges I have burned
    So don't apologize
    I'm losing what I don't deserve
    What I don't deserve
    I'm swimming in the smoke
    Of bridges I have burned
    So don't apologize
    I'm losing what I don't deserve
    The blame is mine alone
    For bridges I have burned
    So don't apologize
    I'm losing what I don't deserve
    What I don't deserve
    What I don't deserve
    What I don't deserve
Here's the dead wood to make the fire rise
The blood of innocence burning in the skies

It's also usually misunderstood. The Prince doesn't become Death. The Prince wants nothing less than to become Death, because if he goes to war his friends will die and he will be hurt. Vishnu becomes Death to remind the Prince that he must do his duty to the realm, no matter how badly it hurts him or how small it makes him feel.
Oppenheimer doesn't become Death. The Bomb, the Gadget, becomes Death. And Oppenheimer, its creator, is reminded that he must do his duty to end the war no matter how horrible it will be.

I absolutely love Linkin Park. I've been listening to them since they started up and Meteora is my most favourite album. Linkin Park has impressed me all throughout the band's career the evolution they continue to make is simply astounding.

@nickmc454 They are all seperate tracks. They have "priming tracks" on every single one of their albums. Cure for the itch. Session. Opening (reanimations), and Wake... When you get the album you can just skip requiem and radiance. The reason they put those types of track is to outline somewhat the mood of the album.

LP is brilliant. They strike a partnership with either the Pope or Harold Camping to make an apocalyptic theme album and use the Bhagavad Gita which is purely Indian and Hindu to talk about a Christian theme which is Apocalypse. Shinoda has got the best brains.

The Requiem- all the hybrid soldiers sitting on the edge of a highway singing in unison in pitch black night......The Radiance- hybrid soldiers stand up and take off flying into the night with their dragonfly wings.....Burning in the skies- flying towards war which leads into empty spaces, when they come for me, etc.

@charliesplinter yeah i know there not in their 20's, but neither is greenday, the lead singer of greenday is almost 40, and theyre still writing loud punk music, AND he has a family age doesnt matter, and forefieting the game is just a metaphor used in one of their songs it has noting to do with their age.

Burning in the skies as the sun is burning, radiance means huge beams of light ( because of the sun) and requiem means peace after death. Thats a weird combination of words for a new style of song from Linkin Park. It looks more like a message to me...

I literally cannot believe all of these people whining about how "radio-friendly" and "unlike old LP" this is; it's actually funny, because I bet most people couldn't even point to a sound, logical reason as to why the band is not as good as it used to be. I've loved this band for a decade, and this is my favorite CD of theirs since Hybrid Theory; I think it tops Meteora and Minutes to Midnight. Good Job, LP, keep doing whatever the hell you want, and ignore all the bitching and moaning.

Beat me to it, except I don't like Linkin Park. The sound is WAY too polished and happy to convey any emotion + Chester sounds too radio-safe to get me into it. Beginning was promising, but it seems as if the songs will blow.

I'm the biggest LP fan out there and I must say, when all is said and done, we may all look back and say A Thousand Suns was there best record. Its a deep, layered story of all of humanity. Its the soundtrack to our plight; our inability to let go of the fears and hatred that will eventually lead to our demise. There are instances on the record that fight this notion as well as hopeful moments, but the beauty of it all to me is the resigned feeling to reality it brings. Love LP

@OffTarget Linkin Park doesn't know what a bad album is, but I agree that this wasn't their best. That is to say, it's a really good album, I just wouldn't pick this over Hybrid Theory, over Meteora, or over Minutes to Midnight (I'd pick this over Living Things though).
So all in all, good stuff.

Damn, Linkin Park has changed quite a bit since I last heard them. I liked Hybrid Theory and Meteora for a while, but grew out of it so to speak. A few of the songs from Minutes to Midnight I liked, but again, grew out of that and away from Linkin Park. But now, discovering A Thousand Suns, they're winning me back. :)

    Linkin park
"For months we'd been destroying and rebuilding our band"
"We Didn't know any of those unorthodox ideas could be incorporated into a traditional album, but we knew we didn't want our next album to be predictable."
In summary They wanted to take a different approach to this album including more smooth and deep lyrics. It was more for them to show there creative music interests then making it for the fans. In short They will move on. So stop complaining.

    J. Robert Oppenheimer was regarded as the 'Father of the Atomic Bomb', as he was the scientific director on the Manhattan Project. When he witnessed the first Atomic explosion (codenamed 'Trinity' by Oppenheimer) he recalled the scripture you hear in The Radiance.
What people don't know is that another passage also came into his mind:
'If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the mighty one'.
Hence, the song and album name.

The whole album has taken some sort of apocalyptic/post apocalyptic feel to it.
The music is unique, 'cause I've heard nothing like it at all.
The album is more artistic than the others... Listen to the Requiem and The Radiance.
LP added it for a point. It's just a different type of art than the other albums.
Burning in the skies is nice. I've listened to many LP songs, and I only hated one.

I really love these three songs as a whole, but "The Requiem" is my favorite part. It's so gorgeous, yet very eerie and somehow disturbing. I listened to this around the same time that I educated myself about 9/11, and although the album is about human fear and nuclear warfare, the events of September 11th, 2001 will always be what I associate this album with. I really like that Linkin Park is experimenting with their sound. It would be really boring if they just kept doing the same stuff.

Linkin Park put so much effort and passion into this album and all you "haters" care about is your desire for their old stuff. Not even thinking about how LP feels when they were in the process of making this album. Trying to "think out of the box" and being creative, music isn't just metal you know, none of you guys including myself have any idea how hard it is to make an album. So much stress and hard work, you know I truly respect LP for all the neglect they get from all you "haters".

As a fellow musician, I know how it is to create music, and we should highly respect them for trying to expand musical boundaries. If you continue to write music in the same way over and over and over, you don't progress...If you love music, then as a writer, or a band, you must always have that drive to progress, and become better.

they inserted the words of a scientist who worked on the manhattan project. it sort of set a tone for the rest of the album. atleast it did for me. for those of you who haven't learned what the manhattan project was yet, it was the code name America used on the creation of the atomic bomb. It was a dark project that changed the world, forever.

  • @CasperRomkes

@TheCityLightz: Requiem, follow lyrics, ends with countdown (I didn't hear that initially) so that's when the nukes go off = radiance; and Oppenheimer quote referring to said nuke(s). Burning in the skies then is about destroyed bridges (but more is destroyed of course), which we didn't deserve anyway with mankind in general being immoral, war-loving etc...
Dunno about empty spaces, and when they come for me doesn't seem to be part of the theme, at least initially. Or I don't get it. :)

The album is about a nucleur war/ fallout, if you listen, "a thousand suns" is kinda an analogy for bombs and the speeches by the guy who helped create the atom bomb, and "god save us everyone, we'll be burned inside the fires of a thousand suns" Is all about war. If you listen to the whole album in the dark it kinda scares the crap outta you. You literally expect a nuke to go off at the end. It's creepy but so musically amazing. LP forever!

@spark1601 You have to admit, if LP made a record where they fart and burp, they'd find a way to make an inventive backbeat out of toilet paper rolls hitting bathroom floors, and they'd cleverly trade off Chester's grunts and Mike's belches, and the sonic texture of the album - I bet you'd feel like you were right next to the commode with them.

@Jaws1015 Dude wake up, "lost their soul"? They had no soul in Hybrid Theory, Meteora, and a little bit in MTM. It was all sad depressing songs of how they were played, let down, and everything else that falls under the subject of 'pathetic'. Don't get me wrong, the music was great, but this is almost the same exact music its just they're not singing about pointless crap anymore.
And if you disagree, then just actually listen to their songs for once, not just senselessly bang your head to it.

And if we do it right, it'll have a cutting edge sound that defines itself as an individual record separate from anything else that's out there."-Chester Bennington on new album A Thousand Suns. Linkin Park is creative. They reach and grab more fans throughout the world. They change their music because they like to expiriment. They don't do the same crap over and over. That's boring.

@devilhunterred You are absolutely right there but me as an LP fan love their music because they are unique.. Fair enough they didn't have to change or evolve because they already were great.. But putting in mind Chester's medical condition, i think that may be a reason as to why their latest albums changed from the first two.. But also you can't really blame them for trying to create new type of music in the last two albums as because in my own opinion, i think it did work out well..

wtf??... i'm here reading these comments about how LP has become shit n that the ''fans'' prefer the old types of songs such as the ones from hybrid theory and meteora.
Lp changed/evolved because they try different styles of composing music
I've been listening to LP ever since i can remember and yes they have changed n like a lot of you, i prefer the first albums but this one isn't any less better than the old ones
if you dont appreciate this album they kindly STFU!!!
    thank you

@xReedyy i agree with you.Truly what i think is if you are a fan and you do not like there new album you were not a true fan of them. i love that they went for a new style. cause of this they proved that they are artist not just some people that want to make money they proved that they are real artist and this is what artist do they experiment with new things they work hard to strive.

Life is just a huge climax to the death you will unavoidedly face. you have to get past all the pain insensitive ppl cause you, you have to grow up fast, trry to be the bigger person, work your ass off to get to a job where you have to work ur ass off even more and fight to survive. All this is done just to end up dieing in the end. Everyone knows this is the way its gotta be but you know what? its worth it

linkin park may not sound the same in this new stuff but they got it right the future sounds a lot like this often i think as far as music goes...there was an age of jazz, then rock and ll then other styles of rock and pop then pop and pop rock and hip hop then hip hop/r&b and dance or metal and indie stuff and it seems its time for melodic rock and fusion music with some electronics within it...theyre not the only band to do it jus tone of the best so far

    @AltamontWolfe
Well, if he's referring to the segues, your point is valid, albeit fairly melodramatic. On the other hand, I can't help but think that the lack of interesting material makes almost all the songs come off as filler. I mean, the Catalyst sounds like some random Post-Grunge band running out of ideas, even if it continues a concept. And while there is a mood, the synths and additional instrumentation end up negating the mood, which makes the whole concept void.

  • @KirbiesandYoshies

    1. This is pretty radio-friendly. Chester's vocal performances are standard Radio Rock fare, and nowhere is this more explicit than in Burning in the Skies
    2. With the exception of Blackout and the King song, this is just brooding whereas old LP was ripping-off from Korn and Limp Bizkit.
    3. This isn't even good because the mood is usually negated by the bouncy synths, the brooding makes the album blur into one boring drone, and the experimentation just detracts from the message

I have a god laugh when people think I'm a Linkin Park fan, and that an album doesn't reveal a band's intentions, emotions and ideas (if it doesn't do any of that, how can it even be considered an artistic statement?). As an aside, a negative comment=/=a pissed off comment, and I justified why I think this is a horrible song, and, by extension, a horrible album. Nothing about expressing a negative opinion is infantile, although it is a nice ad-hominem to use.

  • @AltamontWolfe

    @Tankshock
Well, actually the "filler" songs ARE songs, but they're used to set the mood and tone for the more conventional songs around them. It's a concept album, meaning it is to be listened to as a whole more so than in separate chunks. I understand why people more used to "mainstream" stuff might not be used to it, but its an insult to the artists to simply cast of half-of their work simply because they don't fit some fan's aesthetic tastes.

  • @Tankshock
    @Tankshock 14 років тому

@AltamontWolfe Well for starters, it sounds more techno and less rock and rap than their old stuff. Many of the songs aren't even songs, but filler. A lot of the stuff in the album sounds like a repeat of other songs in the same album, and we don't need the same song twice just in a different tune. Lastly, it is depressing and doesn't make me want to rehear the songs. I love LP and everything they have done up to this, even M2M. But this... I keep listening to it hoping it grows on me. It isn't.

@shinobiz78 I know what you mean. I personally used to listen to just plain Gangsta rap and Nu metal when I started getting into my own music when I was 11, and just like you said, I grew older and so my music palette expanded, now I love all music as long as it`s not happy whore shit or that horrible screamo. I do understand what you`re saying but in my own music fan opinion, Linkin park need to go back to the rap metal sound, even though I don`t really like that sound anymore.

  • @SonikkuEmii4eva

@SX1995able Agreed, I think that they should stay the way they are, but hey, are they still getting the money for it? Now everyone's obsessed with people like Lady Gaga, because she knows how to market herself so that her stuff sells, and that's what they're trying to do to. People are interested in new stuff, and if they don't change to appeal to new tastes, then they're just gonna drag behind. =/

  • @SonikkuEmii4eva

@Disturbed1127 Hey, they're just trying something new out. Alot of bands do that at one point or another. >>; There's really no need to get into a pissing contest over this. If you don't like it, listen to their older music. It's as simple as that. I'll agree, this -is- alot different from Hybrid Theory and such, but you don't hear me attacking people just because they prefer this style over their older albums.

I don't think simply experimenting is enough to warrant a positive review or much praise. Does it matter if your experimentation winds up making you sound faceless and emasculated? I certainly don't think so, and other than a vague, half-hearted comment on their "daring' attempts at a new sound, I feel that saying that it forces you to respect the album is a bit too much--at heart, it is still desperately trying to appeal to the band's radio fanbase.
